Is screen tearing still an issue on xfce?

I want to install debian on my thinkpad x220 and I can't decide what DE to choose. Does screen tearing appear regardless of gpu or will it work finee on intel hd?

Install GenToo; problem solved

On a more serious note; GenToo fixes everthing

((((((use KDE))))))

Yeah. Last I checked. compmon tho

No screen tearing on my thinkpad, but I do things like search the internet for fixes when I have problems.

So I justneed to change the default WM?

fpbp. best kde experience.

I used xfce4 for years, almost a decade. On a whim about a year ago I decided to try out plasma. It's worth it, man. It doesn't add that much more overhead to what you're running now especially if you turn off compositing, but the built-in compositor works great and does take care of screen tearing on both my AMD laptop and my gtx1060 in my desktop.

xfce uses some weird built-in shit for compositing by default. It blows. Either use compton or move to gnome/kde for easy-mode.

kde uses less ram

It uses 0 ram after it krashes.

bullshit. I used kde on gentoo and at boot it uses 400mb while xfce used up around 180

It is very chipsed related.
Sandy Bridge - will work.
Ivy bridge - maybe
Haswell - nope

build 4.13 if you can

werks for me; also learn how to google newfag

Just make sure compton runs at startup
Werks on my machine

i did two things to fix this last night and it worked:

1. disable xfce compositing under settings
2. sudo apt install compton

instantly no tearing

Not since 4.13
Linux Mint fixes tearing by default. Xubuntu will be broken until 2020. Basically don't use Xubuntu, it's shit. Install Mint if you want a working Xfce distro.

Compton is a battery/performance hog, buggy and abandoned. It's a shit choice when you can just upgrade your xfwm to 4.13.

Also, compton makes my cpu to struggle to maintain tearfree sync. Temps goes to hell and my fan gets loud.
Default browsing with tearing: 45°
Compton browsing tearfree: 65° even 70°
Number one priority to me is silence, so, no compton.

i have a desktop and dont notice any adverse edfects from compton but ok

Maybe its my intel igpu. Its shitty as fuck.

w-what about cinnamon
tfw cinnamon will always tear up on my machine

If you're on intel you're lucky, just add
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

tearfree works on amd too
