what stuff do you do and what apps do you use on your android phone? is the stuff you use open source? every open source app i ever come across has one or a few flaws that kind of put me off. also, there are some apps that are simply too good to choose foss altertenatives over them (like jetaudio player).
here's what i use:
music - jetaudio
video - vlc (i'm not aware of any other android media players that render .ass subtitles)
light photo editing (cropping and such) - pixlr express
podcasts - antennapod
youtube - newpipe
browser - chrome
filesystem browser - file commander
office - office suite (can't seem to find lightweight document viewers; nobody edits documents on a phone so why do people make full fledged office suites is beyond me)
cloud - drivesync, megasync, onesync (why can't these faggots create sync functionality in their app so i don't have to use questionable shit?)
what do you use user? also, feel free to call me out on my trash choices but back up your claims if you do.

Shit I actually read the whole novel and even that part 0

My phone does calling texting and freecell solitaire

Simple Gallery, it's the best Android gallery available and it's open source. Get on F-Droid so you don't need to pay for the Pro version. You can drop pixlr after that.
>Newpipe
I hope you don't use it for watching videos, because it is garbage. Youtube Vanced is better for general Youtube shit (not FOSS tho, just a YouTube mod) and Newpipe is fine for downloads.

part 0 was fucking sad.
i wish my job didn't require a smartphone.
yeah, i did some digging in F-Droid's repos and found some cool stuff but there's still a lot i want to test. figured i'd make a thread and post my findings.

werks for me. i really like that googlag doesn't know who i watch. i can live with the shitty quality. not like my phone's screen is that great anyway.

Jetaudio is shit, either use Blackplayer, closed source, or Phonograph/Vinyl Music Player if you just want a simple player – both FOSS, one being a fork of the other.

>mpv (video)
pls don't, the android port is terrible

it's either that or vlc. i just wanted to try it out and i don't think it's that bad. so far it has all the features i could want from a video player. vlc has a bunch of stuff i don't really care about but i'm still looking into what it can do.
Vinyl Music Player looks cool. phonograph is not on f-droid tho but that might change github.com/kabouzeid/Phonograph/issues/80

Music - vanilla music player
Browser - Fennec
YouTube - Vanced
Podcast - Antennapod
File system - FX File Explorer (discovered it thanks to an user here)
Cloud - Seafile
Battery savers - shelter and forcedoze (both foss)

>phonograph is not on f-droid tho but that might change
It's essentially the same. The author just forked and enabled features that are behind a paywall.

When I got more serious about both free software and privacy (which are closely related, mind you) I made a point of doing less on my phone to begin with. Treat it like a landline phone. It calls and texts and I usually leave it on my desk at home when I go out. I don't even have a media player or web browser installed on it.

That's why no one take you guys serious, no one buys a smartphone to use it as a dumbphone. Being a strict free software zealot is stupid.

nothing wrong with minimizing your digital footprint.

well if you care about privacy at all you have to minimize phone use whether you care about free software or not. And since pretty much every nonfree app (along with the base OS...) earns revenue by spying on you, you'll have to move to free software for what you do do anyway.

all of his stuff is pretty good.

why is Jow Forums so consumerist?

Or you can just block network access to them or use a host file to avoid ads, you can also use microg instead of play services and spoof shit. There are many ways you can still use these apps and still maintain your "privacy", even if you are paranoid. Turning your phone into a brick is just stupid.

Tell me where I told you to buy something. And why would someone waste more money on a device that does things he doesn't need? All I said is, if you want a dumbphone, stick to a dumbphone.

i know man shit went horrible
at least mei got kouichi by her side now

Leaving the phone at home is the only way to defeat location-tracking by your carrier, since that works by triangulating what towers can hear the phone. Well, you could leave it in airplane mode, but at that point it might as well be at home.
