Does anyone know of a cheap mechanical keyboard (Ideally under $90) that quiet? Ideally quiet enough so that someone could type in a small room without it making a huge amount of noise.
Isaac Edwards
Anne Pro and O-rings.
Kevin Johnson
that looks pretty nice but ideally it would be something just tenkeyless, 60% is a bit less than I need.
Jackson Wood
How different do MX Blues feel compared to Reds? Are they scratchy in any way or significantly heavier to press? I like bottoming out and light keys and Blues seem intriguing. I've had bad experiences with non-linears in the past but I've never tried a Blues.
Anyone know any 80% size cheap wireless rubberdome keyboards? Or quiet mechanicals? But cheap.
Nolan Martinez
I like keyboards
Tyler Hughes
I finally got the Kira. It will definitely take time getting used to this layout, I keep reaching for certain keys as if I'm on a normal keyboard. Box Pale Blues are surprisingly quiet but sound great. How are speed coppers?
Req me a good ergo Ergodox looks too expensive, but regular shaped split keyboards look inefficient for ergonomics compared to ergodox
Gavin Sanders
I agree with this but im autistic,
Colton Cox
>good, split ergo board >inexpensive Not much overlap there to be honest. Just go all the way and get a dactyl-manuform or something.
Landon Clark
your hand-wiring looks really bad dude also all those little cables... tell me you used a specialised tool to strip away that plastic because if not... i feel your pain
Kayden Walker
should I gut my blue alps keyboard to put in my v80?
Logan Brooks
No, get a custom alps PCB from worst korea and some thicc dye-sub PBT keycaps from japan, then hand carve the case yourself. If you can't then don't bother and throw your keyboard into the trash compactor.
Henry Watson
I use one of these fuckers, worth the money (only costs like 10 bucks) I've read some people burn through the plastic, I wouldn't recommend it
I agree with this but I'm a literally retarded pansexual self-harming psychopathic single parent welfare abuser.
Noah Flores
Hey guys, I just bought a pok3r rgb and i rate it quite highly, but im not a huge fan of the windows key and I would be interested in some aftermarket keycaps. Where is a good place to find some that are ideally doubleshot PBT and work well with backlighting?
are silent reds any good? should i just get regular reds if i don't care about the noise?
Aiden Wilson
>should i just get regular reds if i don't care about the noise? Yes.
Easton Sanchez
lol there are layouts even more subpar to ansi. Good to know weeb.
Jason Evans
I feel like these handwired keebs are literally the ultimate autism level of this hobby. I am nearly there since I make my own cables.
Bentley Perez
>BUCKLING SPRING META
Julian Taylor
That's where you're wrong kiddo, the ErgoDox is suprisingly unergonomic due to the thumb cluster. It's a good idea just waaaaay too far out there. So for any decent usage you end up overextending the thumb. By this logic the top two rows are also unergo due to stretching. So you compensate with layer holds on the thumbs and get on with your day.
Take a look at the hunk of shit that is the crkbd or the Gergo. If you really need the extra keys the Redox also works.
And if you want to go full autism I have a 20% board.
How's the Tada68 with Gateron Browns? What site should I buy from if I want to get it shipped to Canada?
Colton Russell
gateron browns feel pretty light to me (even though I'm using mx reds with 35g springs)
you can get it on kbdfans.cn for us$99 with free shipping you (likely) won't get hit with customs duty as they don't give up the real value of the item
Aiden Watson
i think i am going to pull the trigger on the cooler master mk750 as my first mech, it has cherry browns i like, the price is reasonable, it looks beautiful and i went through every single mech the online stores in the country are selling and didn't find anything better with a backlight
i know that foreign stores exist which ship to yurop and you can buy keybaord there which they don't sell here, but their prices are usually pretty steep, any warranty would be a nightmare and the shipping takes forever so i am not sure if it would be worth the hassle
Nathan Lee
Are 60%s basically unusable on linux? I get the feeling you can't do shit if you can't rebind the keys in software because it will be wangblows only
Jonathan Foster
QMK man, Any 60% worth getting is doing its job via hardware level. Also, there's shit like xmodmap or whatever for doing that :)
Okay so I might've bricked my TADA68. Had created a new .bin file, so I put the board in programming mode, back up the original FLASH.bin and put the new one on there, and hit escape. Nothing worked so I put the original .bin back and now that doesn't work either. Any tips?
Thomas Hughes
Um it might be permafucked and you'll need a ISP to flash it. Good news though, once you have that you can just whack QMK on there
Dominic Martinez
See Assembly service from kbdfans costs like 12 dollars, it's well worth it.
Ethan Miller
When I enter programming mode and try to press escape nothing happens, so I'm guessing it's fucked. Guess I'll look into fixing this now. Yikes.
they use the same concept, rubber dampeners on the stems (though they're not exactly the same) $14 in shipping to europe, no thanks bud maybe if they had kailh hot swap sockets, at this point they're only useful for backlighting also there's hardly anything bad or unreliable about handwiring
Xavier Martinez
The PCB/solder contact acts as the fastener here right? Might be nice and cheap to run off a boatload from JLC using existing footprints.
Carson Adams
I'm looking at kbdfans switches what other switch are as silent as the cherry mx silent/gateron silent black? zealio/kailhbox
pok3r, anne pro 2, ducky mini all do it at the hardware level
Daniel Gomez
My typing speed is on avg 40 CPM higher using my MX Reds compared to Clears. Are linears just the best for typing?
Justin Edwards
It looks fancy, but at that price you could get a keyboard with Topre switches instead >Do you recommand a DIY mech keyboard for the first keyboard ? I'm not realy a diy person pre-built is fine if you get the right one
Noah Baker
it's not even really diy, switches are hotswappable without soldering anyone can put this together, no tools needed still $250 is a big price to pay for something this gimmicky, you gotta love it no
Brayden Carter
Why is my typing speed so shit on these switches then? I'm trying to touch type but I keep underestimating how much force I need so it leads to fuck tons of mistakes
why wouldn't you just use rubber or something soft wtf
Logan Hughes
I do.
Cooper Bell
No one makes them any more since Alps switches are basically ded. Occasionally Signature Plastics will make a PBT dye-sub keycap set as a group buy, but those rarely happen. Harvesting old keycaps or buying new old stock are basically your only other options.
Levi Morales
please respond
Owen Reed
No
Mason Smith
Go the DIY route, learning is good for you! Hot swaps are a fucking meme. Learn to desolder
Healios, Aliaz or Zilents depending on the level of tactility you want
Blake Robinson
I find this kind of stuff more fascinating than scary desu./
Isaac Hernandez
What model did you use to print that? IIRC the regular dactyl-manuform has those screw inserts for attaching the bottom plate sticking outside the walls.
Julian Brown
Muscle memory. The tactile bump is the activation point in cherry switches. So you're typing faster because you don't need the mental connection of noise/bump for activation. Reds are a very light switch to begin with.
Kayden Moore
I like cherry blacks. I do not like cherry reds at all. Never tried the others except for blues (which were nice but to loud). Any of those equivalent to blacks in tactility? Just need to be silent.
Jackson Wood
Dygma raise or Kinesis Edge?
John Martinez
Black's and reds are linear switches. Blacks aren't as soft. Reds are a very light switch.
Ryan Gutierrez
I got that particular case made by crystalhand, he moves the screw holes inside so the plate lines up with the bottom of the case.
Nathan Cooper
The only functional difference between reds and blacks is the spring. Gateron blacks are a little lighter than Cherry blacks, and I believe Gateron's rubber dampeners don't reduce the key travel as much. I think Novelkeys sells Gateron silent yellows too, which have a pretty unique spring that starts heavier than both reds and blacks but doesn't get much stiffer as you get closer to the bottom of the key travel. Might be worth getting a linear switch sampler to compare them and figure out which you like best.
Jose Young
Where do I find tenkeyless wireless rubberdomes at low prices?
Tyler Sanchez
how low?
Nolan Mitchell
I have filco and wasd. How badly did I fuck up?
Oliver Phillips
>tenkeyless everyone knows 75% is the superior layout www.aliexpress.com/item/Plug-And-Play-Wireless-Adjustable-Dildo-Dog-Style-For-PCucks-Free-Mouse-2-4G-Ergonomic/32957825862.html
Josiah Rogers
But Signature Plastics is American? What shouldn't I go for enjoypbt or another manufacturer at that point?
Liam Green
Thoughts on healios? Just ordered to change up with my box navy switches.
Joshua Sanders
Because eBPT doesn't sell keycaps for Alps keyboards
Carson Brown
It they're anything like the V2 zilents I'm using now then they should be pretty smooth and quiet.
Luke Parker
factory-lubed, less wobbly Gat silent reds/blacks
Jonathan Martinez
My bad, I haven't read the post you were replying to and I'm retarded.
Ayden Harris
Do you bottom out with topres when typing? Do you bottom out with linear MXs when typing?
sorry I can't answer your question because I don't use shit switches.
Lincoln Anderson
Enlighten me on good switches. I want fastest switch for typing with lots of resistance, so my I thought about topres or MX Blacks. I'm scared of bottoming out with either though because I feel like that would impact my speed, 100 WPM right now
Jaxon Martinez
I'm upset I made that typo, I should probably get some sleep
