Crux is a great distro if you want to put time in to build it up to a complete custom system tailored to your needs, it has a better ports system than gentoo does, and the install is better too,
i used to run Crux for a while but i got lazy and switched back to Slackware
What's the difference between CRUX and other "advanced" distros?
No help whatsoever. The Crux community will sooner pour gasoline over you and set you on fire, than hand hold you with anything.
Why would I install this over FreeBSD?
This is so wrong I can't even begin to describe how wrong is. I got help from the IRC so many times and I am grateful for everyone of them.
The package manager is easier to play with, literal retards can make a port. Is also vanilla af, the only additions to the system is a couple scripts you can know yourself.
CRUX ports are easier and hardware support is better.
I tried installing DragonFly BSD but I can't seem to figure out how to get networking to work.
What boot loader does Crux use?
Why not gentoo?
I use LILO but you can install GRUB or whatever
You choose on the installation setup
More lightweight and packages are easier than ebuilds, but Gentoo is cool too

Do you need to use bash to use crux? Or can you replace it with something like busybox?
What init system does crux use?
I think you can use busybox, I am about to try with mksh myself
Romster has a port for busybox on his repo
SysVinit but you can install other inits with ports
Can you remove bash if you don't want it on your system?
Good question, I don't think there are any bashisms on CRUX that can break the system. Could be wrong, have to ask the guys at the IRC.
Well, if Crux uses ports, then they would use scripts to install stuff, which means that use bash specific functionality. That is definitely a potential problem with Gentoo, since ebuilds allow usage of bash extensions.
Yes I was thinking that but remember the ports as tiny and readable, it could take a day but you can see if there is any bashism yourself. However I haven't see one that complex, might be wrong.
This is the crux port for bash itself as example
# Description: An sh-compatible command language interpreter
# URL: cnswww.cns.cwru.edu
# Maintainer: CRUX System Team, core-ports at crux dot nu
# Depends on: readline
name=bash
version=4.4.23
release=1
source=(ftpmirror.gnu.org
$name-$version.patch.gz profile)
build() {
cd $name-${version:0:3}
gunzip -c $SRC/$name-$version.patch.gz | patch -p0
./configure --prefix=/usr \
--exec-prefix= \
--disable-nls \
--with-curses \
--with-installed-readline
make -j1
install -D -m 755 bash $PKG/bin/bash
install -D -m 644 doc/bash.1 $PKG/usr/share/man/man1/bash.1
install -D -m 644 $SRC/profile $PKG/etc/profile
}
Granted, the variable expansion with the colon is not POSIX but is supported by both bash and ksh and is honestly the first port I've seen containing that expansion.
what's the install procedure like on this distro?
why when xubuntu exists?
gentoo but arch
but I like cute boys and dress like a girl, I want my dingus stay small !
systemd is a Microsoft product
fuck off jamal
You make your partitions and then use a graphical installer
How would they make it posix?
Replace all expansions
${version:0:3}
for
$version
i will when appimage became standard software packaging or there is binary packages, i don't want to waste my time compiling everything
No thanks. I'm not into broken packages and don't want to deal with footprint errors
Why would you say that when there is a switch to turn off footprint messages?
Sweeping shit under a rug, doesn't help with the stench
But that is wrong you doofus
>broken packages
