What killed MiniSD?

micro you fucking retard

Why didn't regular SD cards die with MiniSD then?

cameras you fucking retard

Why didn't cameras switch over to microSD?

too easy to lose. microsd is used in devices that only need the storage removed very occasionally. For cameras, removing the SD card and using a dedicated reader is much faster than the slow ass USB interface cameras come with, and it can cut transfer times down a ton when moving 32GB+ of files.

Nice thread.
I've learned sometging today.

>google nano sd to see if it exists over micro sd
>it does

SD is generally better performance than microSD. It's only really in recent times that microSD is reaching the same reliability in performance.
Remember that the most of the cards perform well above the performance categories, so just because a microSD card is in the same category as an SD card the actual performance could be quite different.

yet another thing thats incompatible with existing hardware. its annoying enough that sim card sizes keep changing every year

It killed itself due being useless

What killed SmartMedia

>instead of using this on Vita they made a exclusive one
Sony please...

speed, essential for HDR shot, high speed or 4K recording

its big

It wasnt much bigger then cf, and it was extremely thin so you could literally fit three in the same spot.

What everyone here is missing is that Mini was never alive. Normal SD cards were entrenched in computers and cameras already, and micro was a useful form factor that got rapid adoption by shit like cameras and phones

pls just keep the standard sizes.. no need to change them just because if theres not a technical reason to do so. they are already small enough and the controller chip in phones is so small that it does not even fill half of the phone

>proprietary sony memory cards

But you got a few megabytes instead of hundreds or even a whole thousand with a CF or Microdrive.

>But you got a few megabytes instead of hundreds
SmartMedia went up to 128MB

They are. They announced NVME/PCI-E SD cards last year, and while not officially announced showed pictures of microSD in the same presentation implying microSD is part of the spec too. There are no new form factors

And what did CF/microdrive cards go to at that time? Idiot

I was merely pointing out that SmartMedia was capable of over 100MB, dumbass.
