You can easily get entry level jobs at the conditions outsourced work in India, Russia and so on also gets them. Many actually will prefer you if they can get you locally under the same kinds of terms.

How about you get an actually good tertiary education from a reputable university so it's not quite THAT entry level and replaceable, though? You know, the thing that means you're better trained and more useful and worth some actual money?

You spam applications locally. Or you know someone. Then you just need to interview okay

Look, I’m just asking for direction as I try to break out of being a NEET. I’m a pretty good state university so I’m feeling alright about where I’m at.

Where do you find jobs? Indeed? Do you have any advice for what jobs I should look for? I’m basically just looking to get my foot in the door to the industry

>a pretty good state university
You say that it is not an US diploma mill, but solid tertiary education. Yet you have to look hard for a job? Ok, good luck then.

I asked an upperclassman in the anime club who went on to work at FAANG to refer me.

Get an internship.

if you really search i'd say it's pretty hard not to find one where i'm living. even without formal education.

We're in the same boat senpai, be prepared for disappointment. I've had 3 interviews for entry level positions (risk analyst, """"IT specialist""""", and help desk) and I was turned down by all 3 for someone with more experience. I get it, you want someone with experience, but the positions are entry level.

My advice (and something I'm doing myself) is focusing on getting certs. I'm starting with Net+ and Sec+ because they should be relatively easy (plus Sec+ is required for security clearance for gov't jobs).

Good luck user

ooh wow three interviews
what you should be doing instead of wasting time with certs is going to more interviews
write a script to automate it

I know 3 isn't very many but I live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with a kid. I also work two jobs so I'm not exactly loaded with free time.

Certs are because I don't have a 4 year degree - I was laid off and had an offer for the State to pay for a 2 year degree, which I will be finishing in the Spring. Information security btw but I'm not naive enough to believe a 2 year meme degree will get you a good infosec job. Instead I treat it like a sys/net admin trade school with a focus on security.

1- Get an internship while still at school
2- Pick up skills while at school
3- Make sure your resume is good
4- Apply for relevant jobs

Alternatively:
1- Make a lucky connection

Who wants you to come to work tired because of kids and other jobs, and not even have obviously great qualfiications on top of that?

That is not how predatory capitalism in the USA works. Probably best just start your own company and hope you draw the winning ticket and succeed.

>Who wants you to come to work tired because of kids and other jobs, and not even have obviously great qualfiications on top of that?
I don't know where you got that I'd keep my other two jobs. But thanks I guess for the great advice?

>But thanks I guess for the great advice?
If you are being sarcastic, ok, but if not: Do NOT start your own company unless you have plenty of working experience. 80% of all startups fail. Get experience first, then start your company, to give you a better chance of being part of the 20%.

Then you'll likely have to relocate, because teleworking security jobs are part-time (they just much prefer unemployed part-time to otherwise employed part-time).

And "bumfuck nowhere" likely won't have full-time security jobs.

No I was being sarcastic. I wish I had a marketable idea to start a company with but I don't. That and starting a company costs a tremendous amount of money and time where I have neither.

I'm simply looking for a better job to provide for my family. Nothing crazy, I just want my daughter to have a better life than I had.

I figured relocation was inevitable. However you mention part time telecommuted security jobs - could you elaborate?

>Nothing crazy, I just want my daughter to have a better life than I had.
You and everyone else. Yet reality is this or worse, and that includes the low percentage of very successful people.

>part time telecommuted security jobs - could you elaborate?
Well, some companies want to hire security experts on demand need arises, or just periodically. Maybe to audit systems when somehow had the idea they needed an audit or specifically an external audit, maybe to give analysis for court cases, maybe for certification reasons. Not sure at all you can get into the last somehow or any of these, but it'd probably be lucrative if you can line up enough jobs, which won't be all that easy.

Thanks user

Thank God.
