Could someone recommend me a ThinkPad?
The current laptop I own is Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 with Debian on it. I want similar performance to my current laptop and that's it basically.

Listing the specs is probably more helpful than listing the model number and hoping someone else googles it for you.

There:
CPU: Intel Core i3-2310M @ 2.10 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M
4GB RAM

I'd say T430(s), but literally most of the circa 2012 ones have similar specs. You should be able to get a used one for $150-200, I know I did. Might need to replace the battery and swap the HDD for an SSD though, also you'll probably want to get another 4GB of RAM sometime, so that'll add a bit to the price

Reposting from last thread:
Help me troubleshoot /tpg/, what can be done about pic related? x230t with a fifth on the left of the screen flickering, Only sometimes, goes away when I put pressure on the right end of the screen.
Any thing I can try before I get a replacement screen?

Attached: DICKPICk2.jpg (4608x3456, 3.16M)

Get the bezel off and don't get your hopes up. If you're lucky it might be something simple like a cable not quite making full contact except for when pressure is applied.

So i'm redpilled on either the T440 or the X240
why am i wrong for choosing them?

Neither of them are the T440p

Is it just me or the x series just keeps on getting bigger over time?
From the x60 all the way to the x280
It annoys the shit out of me

Bigger and uglier

what does it do better ?

More powerful and more upgradeable

Any tips for how much thermal paste to use (after I reclean it with alcohol)?

Richard Stallman is basically a programmer monk.

If you replace meditating with programming it's a perfect match.

What ssd should I get for my x220?

Any name brand. Although some anons say that the chinese knockoffs work fine

Is there a way to chain multiple Thinkpads together? Say I have three, and no external monitors I can use. I know I can power them all up and run Synergy or some shit, but can I get them to run the same OS? Seems ludicrous, I know, but I know it's possible to have a "cluster" of RPi's and I was wondering if maybe the same could be done with Thinkpads. Not that I know shit about how to do that. Even running three LVDS Thinkpad displays from one computer would be good enough. I'm open to suggestions.

I bought an ADATA in 2017 and it died after two years; I have many Samsungs, some going back to 2011 and they all work just as good as new. This may sound like shilling, but I wouldn't buy anything besides Samsung. Their products seem to be the cheapest [when bought new] anyways.

Best X200 WLAN card upgrade? Preferably 802.11ac.

Will do thanks.

Tenko using a Tenkopad
I have synergy running on my ryzen 1700 desktop, my W530, and my windows i5-4690. You have to set the computer with the newest version of synergy as host, then make sure any other windows or linux computers are set to look for your host computers address. The best practice is to hook up all of the computers you want synergized on a single gigabyte switch, so you will almost never experience any delay.

Ebay seller sold me W530 in good condition with the wrong CPU. i7-3520M instead of 3740QM. What do you things happened here? Did he try to rip me off? It just came today so I am still able to return it but I intent to ask him first about this "mistake".
Right course of action?

Pic for attention

I'm looking for a palmrest for my X230. Are there any recommended sellers/stores? Ebay or Aliexpress?

Explain what happened and he'll probably give you a partial refund; you probably paid $200 or so, ask for $40 back or something, then you can buy a quadcore

do you type a lot? do you enjoy the macbook keyboard. had a 2012 recently and i thought it was complete shit feeling to type on. my 2015 x1 carbon feels way better and it's on the meh side since "thin" meme but good vs none thinkpad stuff. and i've always hated touchpads. big touchpads aren't my thing, easier to drag and drop files on a small one, and high sensitivity doesn't fling the mouse all over since palm rejection isn't really needed without the clickslab by your hands.
2 finger scrolling is ok, i like edge scrolling and multi touch for middle click is nice though.
screens can be terrible to decent because business laptop but *40 series and up should be pretty easy to get decent ips screens for online. build quality and longevity is pretty nice on thinkpads. apple has a good fit, finish and presentation. but they use a shitty soft aluminum still. but i wouldn't call it great or premium since a stronger aluminum should be used at that damned price. would make thinkpads look like crap if they didn't skimp out there

Yes, Synergy works good but it's really my backup plan. I'm looking for something more advanced. Is there any way I can share CPU?

x230t screen sucks ballsack

X201 cutest thinkpad
Cute tummy

Screen on mine is pretty decent

just a drop

do you care if it may daie at some point after a year? if not anything. if yes samesung is pretty reliable haven't seen any problems, kingston is shit for multiple reasons, crucial mx500 is ok and cheapest not crap ssd but i question longevity, intel older ones were great but seen some issues with newer models so unsure now.

can confirm x201 a cutest

$130 for a t540p with HD display, 4gb ram and 500gb HDD, but in good shape
yay or nay?

how long do you have it for

hey guys, an x250 i3, 8gb ram, 500g hdd, looks nice, this guy is asking $150, should I?

Attached: 1547585315690.jpg (960x852, 51K)

>i3
yikes, not bad if it looks pretty nice and battery(s) are in good shape

isn't i3 like good though (not op)

I can't find any w530 compatible CPUs that are affordable, Paid 330€ for it since that is what the buyers guide recommends a medium condition w530 also the cheapest I could find. It is in great condition, looks like new just the wrong CPU. Send it back if he doesn't send the right one?

>thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X250
x250 come with either one of these:
ntel Core i3-5010U, 2,10 GHz, 3MB Cache
Intel Core i5-5200U, 2,2 - 2,7 GHz, 3MB Cache
Intel Core i5-5300U, 2,3 - 2,9 GHz, 3MB Cache, Intel vPro
Intel Core i7-5600U, 2,6 - 3,2 GHz, 4MB Cache, Intel vPro

the i3 is ok
not the best option. but it's not crap like a celeron (i'd hope)

Same user: This faggot also sent a Quadro K1000M instead of a K2000M. Is there a way I can convince Ebay of givin me the cash back while keeping it? According to the form the seller doesn't take products back.

Attached: 30aouh81ktq11.png (640x800, 606K)

partial refund
incorrect listing
if you wanna send it back, paypal claim if he won't return. specs don't match listing
so he can fuck off since it's not as listed. if that wasn't listed good luck and you're retarded for not checking/asking

Is a T430 worth buying or is it too old?

if cheap, why not?

It is listed so I should be ok. Gonna see if I can be the sliest fox and end up with the money and the gear.

Is $320 from a reputable seller too much?

Please help

>Do anything CPU or GPU intensive
>Fans kick in and thing starts thermal throttling
It's probably my fault for sticking a quad-core in it but the TDP wasn't any different from the original i5 that was in there so I don't know why. There was that one guy that added thermal pads between his keyboard and his heatsink that posted an interesting thread a week or two ago, but I really don't want to buy another keyboard if I fuck this one up. Also the screen is cancer but I've unironically seen worse.

How do I disable dedicated graphics and enable Intel's integrated graphics?

Install Windows 10 and it just werks

Oh fuck. Should I change thermopaste?

Attached: 2019-02-21 21_38_31-Speccy.png (768x541, 42K)

But it came with Windows 10 and my 4200m is enabled by default :(

Is that under a stress test? if not then yeah replace it.

optimus automatically turns on when there's a need for it and turns off when anything graphically intensive closes, I'm not sure what else you'd need

Well, I'm running some games right now. Didn't check while on idle, probably about 30-40 degrees.

I'm getting really poor battery life so I thought that might be it. Then again it has an original Lenovo battery so it might just be natural decay overtime. What kind of battery life should I be getting on a T520 with a quad core i7 and a 4200m?

If I don't want to to any bigger than my x230i is there any reason not to upgrade to x240?

during games x220 will get hot no matter what

Is the headphone/mic jack on the think pads generic?
I mean I know it's 3.5 mm jack, but I mean regarding the TRRS standards.

Attached: Azur-Lane-Takao-Cosplay-Features-Enchanting-Legs-45.jpg (1280x1920, 115K)

Only problem with i3 x250 is you cannot upgrade the RAM past 8gb. Every other model, you can.
I currently have 16gb in my i5 x250.

Any one of them will do mate there aren't any major differences compared to, say keyboards.

x40 was smaller than x60
240x was smaller than x40

I've found a good deal on a t440p but it has a BIOS password set, does it stop me from powering on or modifying BIOS?
Can I just remoeve the battery and wait for it to forget the password?

x240-x260 is smaller than x200-x230

They are half an inch wider, but a full inch+ slimmer. They got wider because the screens got half an inch bigger. The difference in width and height is negligible, but the slimness/weight is really drastic.

>from powering on
no
>or modifying BIOS
yes
>Can I just remoeve the battery and wait for it to forget the password
no

Not the user you responded to but is there a way to remove a bios password from a t440p? Or is it too new for that?

I fell for your memes guys.
Bought my first laptop ever.
A brand new Thinkpad.

Is there a freebsd based distro or flavor of freebsd that comes with gnome? I'm tired of fucking w/ xorg on new installs.

No idea, maybe by flashing a BIOS from a similar t440p with similar specs via an SPI programmer.
I modded my T440p BIOS that way to remove the wlan whitelist so i could install a dell wlan card for macOS.

>T420
>Lubuntu 18.04
>2.5h of battery life
>Windows 7
>4h

Is there anything I have to manually set up or is this normal?

There's this t540p whose left click button doesn't work. Should I stick with a external mouse or replace the button/touchpad?

yes, half that would be more reasonable

disable it in the BIOS

I've got nail polish, isopropyl alcohol and my Conductonaut. Aight, ready to liquid metal my Precision M6600 (bought thanks to /tpg/); has anyone here done the same with their own laptop? Last time I stressed the CPU with Prime 95, I was hitting 95°C at 3.40GHz all cores and threads, and surprisingly it wasn't clocking down... but the GPU wasn't doing anything. I'll try using 3DMark's stress test to see what happens first before attempting to liquid metal it.

I'm looking for a Thinkpad with a decent GPU, anything that isn't integrated Intel and a 1080p screen.
Portability is a plus.
What would you guys recommend? I'm having trouble finding a t440s with nVidia GPU

Attached: Dk5mbw_WsAM4bNN.jpg (778x814, 103K)

decent and portable would mean you'd have to buy basically a new t480/t480s, otherwise P50 or something close may have pretty good dgpu but those are not really that portable

t440p masterrace

Would a T420 be fine for light gaming? Terraria, WoW on medium settings, etc?

absolutely agree

Attached: ujiuiu.png (271x313, 136K)

i think you need to physically remove the old bios and install a new one. can you solder soic-8?

>brand new

>gnu
>bsd
pick one

Yeah, I solder modchips for a living, thanks for the heads up, I'll search ebay for a BIOS chip

I know I was supposed to buy a used one but I'm not poor

Anyone any experience with the X1 Tablet gen3. Currently debating to get that or a surface pro 6 unironicly.

hello fellas, quick question
I have x280 with i5-8350 720p. If i buy an IPS screen, is it enough just to install it to change the visual output to FHD? I mean no other hardware or software system adjustments?

Attached: 5Ys2Ky2.jpg (640x708, 139K)

I wanted the X1 but it cost like 3k so I ended up buying the x380 yoga for half the price. I think it's pretty amazing but then again I am totally clueless. Never owned a laptop before
But everything is working perfectly out of the box on arch (pen, screen rotation etc.)

Could be a lot of things. Have you experimented with any other distros?
