Still want muh separate arrow keys for the occasional gaymen session so 65% is as small as I'd go for an on-the-go type board
Austin Wilson
>a gun >current year umm back to Jow Forums with the rest of the nazis sweaty
Gabriel Bailey
What's the current state of chink mechs? Kinda want an upgrade from my K120
Liam Anderson
Get a cheap hotswap/CIY board and put in decent switches later, can't beat 'em for value.
Carter Perez
I don't really want to get into mech keys though. I'd rather buy something and use it forever. I tried a friend's blue switch kb the other day and it felt good even though it's kinda loud.
Jacob Morgan
Bought a TADA68. This meme hobby isnt for me, it's not even that much better than a membrane desu. >Cherry reds >Lil orings to reduce the decibels to something non-obnoxious. >still loud as fuck
Brandon Bennett
i'm sorry you're too retarded for lego maybe stick with whatever membrane keyboard you had before
That's the idea of buying a cheap hotswap chassis, you can keep it forever even if your wants/needs change. Switch fails? Just plug a new one in, no soldering required. Got tired of the constant clicking? Swap in some decent tactiles or linears. You get the idea.
Justin Thompson
I got the k120 as well. Seems like everything good is either sold out or in china. fucking hate this.
Sebastian Reed
I can't think of a single game that uses arrow keys instead of wasd.
Benjamin Brown
>loud >linear switches stop typing like a gorilla
Cameron Myers
What's your guys opinion on the Vortex Race 3? I like the layout, might drop my money on that. Really Autism friendly colors.
>have to use a modifier to greentext sucks to suck
Logan Watson
you have a dedicated > key?
Josiah Lopez
Are there any decent keyboard-related youtube channels or anything? The only decent channel I've found is chyrosran, everything else is basically just consumerism
Jack Moore
Replaced my old Logitech G110 with a iKBC MF87 w/ Cherry Blues and it seems pretty chill so far. Typing feels much more satisfying but the RGB is a little confusing to set up.
Asher Wilson
/our-guy/ has one of the most succesful tech youtube channels now that he doesn't have to waste his time developing linux
I own it. It's nice. But the programmability is terrible and it has 1.5u Esc and Delete keys. I switched to a KBD75. Still keeping my Race 3 because it's nice though.
Carson Gomez
Chyrosran22 and taekeyboards are generally the ones recommended here. Though chyros is better.
Jordan Cook
chyros is aboslute dogshit
Connor Clark
How? He's literally the only keyboard reviewer who actually fucking reviews the whole board, not just "ayy lmao these switches are smooth"
Levi Miller
I've just realized I haven't posted here for long. Here's my keyboard.
I mean, people like chyrosran's videos. The reasons why are obvious. So, of course you're going to have people who don't like him solely because he's popular--contrarians. They can't like things other people like, because that would make them "normies" or "reddit". So, if you ask them why they don't like the thing in question, if they actually respond, it's going to be some retarded response like "people only like him because his voice is deep" or "haha le ebin swear word that's all he does" or "reddit". If you try to keep the conversation going, they'll just end up flinging insults when they run out of arguments.
These people are not worth your time. Ignore and move along.
Aaron Hughes
I can't seem to screenshot my keyboard. Weird. When I do, I'll post mine here!
Benjamin Johnson
I can't fucking decide if I want linears or not. I feel like I'm at the point where I'd just order like most of a keyboard's worth of gateron silent reds or something and fucking stick them in my keyboard without soldering and just play pretend writing out a file from my project or something to get a better idea. Fuck
Blake Russell
Hope you figure it out soon.
Adam Fisher
just get a hotswap board, or if you're doing DIY solder in some mill-max sockets.
Jeremiah Hernandez
OH I thought you were the same user and I was super confused
Josiah Wilson
Could just order 30 Gateron linears for 6 bucks and stick them only on the letters to try.
Nolan Gutierrez
Hey Jow Forums, looking to finally get a mechanical keyboard, and would like some advice.
>Budget $120~.
>Location Australia.
>Preferred switch type Reds.
>Layout Either, I don't mind.
>Form factor 100% preferred, but I'm not super bothered.
>Backlight Don't care.
>Previous/current keyboard Shitty membrane.
Ethan Cook
iPhone SE is literally peak Jow Forums faggot
Christian Cook
god that sad part is that's true.
i hate nu-Jow Forums
Colton Hill
>budget ~$120au >location Sydney >layout ANSI >form factor full (for numpad) preferred but not strictly required >backlight yes, but RGB not necessary >previous/current keyboard ducky shine 6 last time I built a desktop. trying to be a bit more conservative with spending on this one
Evan Scott
>Red Fucking gaymers. Seriously though, have you actually tried out the switches before buying? Anyway, get a ducky one.
Cameron Ross
HP Omen Sequencer. It is the best keyboard right now. It's basically Razer Elite Huntsman half of the price. It's uses modified LK Blues which are opto-mechanical. Tested and brought it is a keyboard specialist store and it steamrolled the filcos and ducky shine 7 (Which are overrated when compared to this keyboard). The non cherry switches are fast as fuck, it's even faster than Kailh's faster switches.
Nathan Johnson
>implying you've ever used or ever will use said gun for anything other than trying to look badass on the internet and putting holes in pieces of paper
Why do you have a fire extinguisher? Why does your car and house have locks if nobody has ever tried to break in? Why do you use them?
Jace Johnson
You can put whatever you like between item and the number.
Nicholas Butler
newfag
Julian Ross
That's expensive. I got mine for $80 since it was for sale (Which is insane). Duckies are overrated, they need more features. HP Omen Sequencer and Razer Elite Huntsman (Overpriced as fuck though) are the current best keyboards in terms of typing speed and experience. Cherry is no longer the king of switches.
Gabriel Jackson
Duckies are relatively cheap.
Zachary Robinson
>Budget Up to 130$ >Location (continent at least) USA >Preferred switch type I've been using Blue's. I really like the feel but I sometimes think something quieter would be better. In general, I'm looking for switches that feel similar. >Layout Qwerty preferred. >Form factor Something smaller would be great. TKL, 75%, or smaller if it has arrow keys. I'm willing to go 60% too. >Backlight Must have. Any color.
Would love for them to come out with a hotswap version of this board.
Carter Young
Just solder in some sockets
Robert Sullivan
I'm too retarded and would fuck it up.
Also, apparently not all of the sockets are normal size for the sockets according to posts on reddit
Ayden Turner
If you can solder in switches you can solder in Mill-Max 0305-2 sockets. You can use a switch to hold the sockets in place for the larger top row holes. Easier than it sounds.
Jose Evans
>shitty American non-ISO keyboard user trying to be 1337 OH NO NO NO NO NO
Clicky Box switches are the best switch >click bar (no rattly jacket) >factory lubed and smooth >doesn't bind >can be easily modded to be a linear switch or add extra tactility bonus >breaks expensive reddit caps
Chase Brown
>Budget Under $150 >Switch Low Profile Reds or Speeds Linear >Layout Tenkeyless Chiclet caps >Backlight No preference
Who makes this?

An iron you can adjust the temperature on would be ideal but you can get a cheapo Weller from just about any hardware store for around $15 US. Just don't buy any battery-powered bullshit. Avoid butane powered irons like the Benzomatic as well. There's nothing wrong with them but they're better suited for low voltage techs or the sort where the location you need to be soldering at will have neither an outlet nor a comfy table to work at. They also cost more, still lack temperature control, and you have to feed them cans of butane.
So you get your $15 iron (probably came with a sponge, stand, and some tips too), and another $5 or $10 will get you a little spool of some decently narrow gauge solder and a spool of some desoldering wick (essentially a thin, flat, continuous braid of wire to soak up solder). Have at least one broken electronic around the house in a junk drawer somewhere?
Watch a few YouTube videos, open up aforementioned electronic and try desoldering a component from the board. Now try soldering it back on. Burnt the board? Too much heat for too long? Iron touching board rather than pin/pad? Figure out what went wrong, pick a new component, try again.
Be mindful of what you're taking apart - mainly large capacitors can hold charge for a while and if you bridge their pins with your skin it won't feel too good when they discharge through you. Very large capacitors can fuck you up. Easiest way to avoid danger is don't pick any high voltage device like an old CRT monitor to dick around with. Find an old remote control to a TV you no longer own or whatever. And don't be like the morons in stock photos everywhere holding their soldering iron down near the tip like a pencil. It's a mistake you'll hopefully only make once - or never now that you've been warned.
It's a cheap skill to pick up, a good one to have, and if you're into artsy shit and ever wanted to make stained glass art you'll need to know how to solder.
Charles Rogers
>Budget Around $150 USD >Location (continent at least) U.S. >Preferred switch type Something tactile. Was considering cherry MX clears or Kailh Box Navy >Form factor 100% >Backlight Don't care
First time buyer. I've been considering getting the Vortex Tab90m. I really like the compact looking full keyboards. Anybody have experience with it or able to recommend something else?
I would recommend getting a 75% and a separate numpad. Vortex programmability is shit. This matters if the default layout irritates you and you want to move the keys around (swap out the calculator key for something else etc). If this is your first time using a compact full size you might miss the gaps between sets of keys. They make it easier to locate parts of your keyboard without glancing down (eg F5 quick save, F9 quick load). Another compact full size you might want to consider is the YMDK96. Try out switches before committing. Go to a store or a friend's house and type or get a switch tester (not as good as typing on a proper keyboard). You can solder holtites or mill-max connectors to the PCB which makes swapping switches much less of a hassle.
Christian Watson
>can be easily modded to be a linear switch or add extra tactility I wanted to say something but then considered the fact that I've still been sanding pins on my Navy Thicks off and on just to convert my cheap amazon board over from Huano Blues. I guess it really doesn't take much more than patience to end up with a set of linear switches, going through removing the clickbars. I had to test it out just now to see what I thought - I definitely prefer clicky over linear. Could probably enjoy tactile but I don't own any to know.
Speaking of - anybody know off hand what provides the feedback in Kailh's tactile switches? It's hard to determine from the spec sheets. I wanted to pick up enough Burnt Orange switches to fill a board and play with but they're sold out everywhere right now.
Owen Carter
I'm pretty sure you're some white kid who lives in a house in the suburbs though right? It's fine if you're into guns, just don't pretend it's for "home defense." Also lmao at being an iCuck.
Hunter Ortiz
>conductive switch >best LOL
Christian Sanchez
There's that new cooler master keyboard. Don't know if it's out yet.
Jack Reyes
What board is that in the OP? That is beautiful.
Adam Lee
clueboard is the pcb, i think the plates are custom
Chase Cox
It's the original clueboard
Jonathan Watson
Are you insinuating that that picture represents me in some way? I've never protested against the police because my police aren't shit and I don't live in a shithole country like you. >maybe if I spam enough unrelated smuggies at him I won't have to face the fact that I live in a third-world shithole
Camden Martinez
Do you have to solder for stained glass?
Aiden Morales
If you buy a board without hot swap and with no intention of desoldering you are making a terrible mistake and belong on r/pcmr discord not Jow Forums. Even if you just buy a $27 DIY blue switch chink special on amazon you'll be fine. It just means you have to use outemu housings so for insane value you would do: buy chinkshit with outemu red, replace spring with sprit, apply lube.
The only exceptions to this are: Boards using buckling spring, topre, btc dome w/ slider, flaretech linears, kailh click bar.
