>1993.
>Nine years old.
>Every Sunday go to the market with my dad.
>People buying and selling useless shit they don't want anymore.
>Dad tells me to meet him back at the car in an hour.
>Dad also tells me not to waste my money on shit.
>Go buy a burger and coke to eat and drink while walking around the market which is massive and on an old airfield, thousands of people usually turn up.
>Somehow manage to come across a guy selling floppy disks out the back of a van.
>Buy a few "music disks" based on the cool, if badly printed artwork, and pirated games for a couple of quid.
>Walk on and buy some old rave cassettes.
>Go home and load up the disks in my Amiga 1200.
>Jam out to old school chiptunes.
>A few years later sell Amiga and all disks ( for a Playstation.
>Regret that decision nearly every day now.

>tfw I will never experience the sensation of unlocking a 3.5" floppy disk holding 50+ floppy disks and flicking through them like I'm in a record store, going through vinyl, looking for the music disk I want, or the 2, 3 or 4 disks I need to run a game.

the last time i had this was in 2001 when a store threw out old floppies for like 20ct and i still had a working 286 in the house and got a few games like "catacombs 3d".

It's bizarre that it's the thing I remember most about that time. I had about a dozen of those lockable floppy boxes (double sided, held about 50 or 60 disks in each row) filled with pirated software, games and music disks bought from the Sunday market. Most of it I couldn't tell you what it was now, but the process of unlocking the box and fingering through the disks is imprinted on my mind.

Just found this video searching Youtube of someone with an A500. Chiptunes, floppies everywhere, disk reading noises. It's basically the sound of my childhood.

switching from linux to 10 at weekend, it'll be my first time using windows above 7

I still load that onto basically any laptop or PC I'm building out for someone else. Windows 10 has been like half a year of bad patches and questionable support for older hardware.

You bench lower than an FX-8350, only a bit above a Ryzen 5 1400 in multi-core. It is surprisingly significantly worse on single-core.
Anything i7 will usually get you by, but you're PCIe2.0 and 3 channels of DDR3, so it's time is coming to an end.
