I'm employed as a remote worker currently.
My employer is literally on the other side of the world.

as a?

>My contract says I can work remotely
>I am still expected to get here every day at 8:30 AM

I like putting in face time. Plus I get zero done if I try to work from home. I need a sterile, emotionless environment to be productive.

please note that "allowing remote work" doesn't equal "forcing remote work"
not everybody is the same in their preference to this

I'm a senior/lead developer working remotely from Italy for a software house in california

I've been asked to go to london to work for Apple, Amazon, IBM, Facebook and more but I don't want to move at the moment, unfortunately all big ones wants their "culture" PC shit going on, so you get to work remotely only 1 or 2 days a week

I'd probably go insane if I worked remotely desu

It prevents middle management from micromanaging employees. If the middle management were to hire remote employees they would soon notice that they don't actually do anything useful for the company.

Remote work is the solution to shitty traffic and at some level helps pollution in cities but it'll never happen on a large scale because middle management is too scared for their asses.

>start working from home
>way more productive
>manger asks why i wasn't like that in the office
>had to move back to the office and expected to work like I did at home

What a disaster

how did you land your remote work deal?
the thing is that most of the time (at least from my experience) they don't jack shit either way.
why didn't you argue that remote work clearly benefits you and makes you more productive?

What are you even talk about? More companies do that now than ever before. Even governments do it now.

Software developer.

>how did you land your remote work deal?
Very prolific open source contributions in a field which is exactly what this company does. I didn't do the open source work for this goal; it's just software I wanted to use. It's just nice that it ended up turning out this way.

I have a separate office room in my home that I only use for working. Helps to keep the distractions away while working. Also great for work-life balance as I can leave work behind by leaving it in the office.

>the thing is that most of the time (at least from my experience) they don't jack shit either way
They don't most of the time, but they can point out at all the people in the office and handwaving something about look at all these people I'm managing.

There are also good managers that actively help their employees but they're extremely rare.

im stackoverflow careers, although it has a pretty tight entrance, now I'm reviewing new candidates but we have something like 0,01% people actually getting in

anyway I landed one before this via twitter, the previous one was through headhunters... as usual get a proper linkedin page and buy a CV template form themeforest or similar, make it sure to keep it in a single page

I worked in london a couple years so that helped to get in the right "loop"

Not him, but I'm a political consultant that works as an independent for advocacy firms, typically doing 1-2 year contracts, one at a time. Working from home is a blessing as a curse. I'm very extroverted, so since I'm not interacting with anyone at work, most of my social interaction comes from the gym. You know, that place where I don't want to talk to literally anybody when I'm trying to hit a new pr.

That said, it's obviously not all bad. I use my own toilet, set my own hours, and am pretty productive since my girlfriend is typically at work or studying when I'm working.

If you took online courses in college, and excelled in doing so with a full term load, there's no reason you can't work from home if you wanted to. Assuming it's within your means with your career, that is.

>there's no reason you can't work from home if you wanted to
What I meant by this is that you should be capable and responsible enough to do so, if you had the opportunity.

the thing is that their '''work''' can be done virtually and applied on remote workers, but I'm guessing more people need to start shilling it with some statistics and guidelines
yet I still keep hearing how hard it is to land a remote job
>Very prolific open source contributions
may I ask what some of the projects were? I'm just interested since I've been meaning to get into it myself

>may I ask what some of the projects were?
Giving too many details will make it pretty easy to roughly guess who I am and who my employer is. Jow Forums is not the place for that.
I'll say "graphics", but that doesn't properly describe the nature of the work I did.

understandable, I just thought if they were high-profile that they might have a large number of contributors so risk of doxxing wasn't concerning

Are you Italian? I'm a software developer from eastern europe (2 years of experience so far) and I would really like to move to Italy to live and work there. I speak fluent English and like A2 Italian.

They could automate most tech jobs, but then they would not be able to get away with billing clients so much. People these days spend their entire lives working in shitty offices just for appearance sake.

What does that even entail? I bet you make a fuckload of coin doing it.

>I bet you make a fuckload of coin doing it.
Far from it actually, once my girlfriend graduates (accounting major) she'll be the primary breadwinner. I'm comfortable though.
>What does that even entail?
I mostly write call scripts, which is much like copywriting. You use key words and phrases to appeal to and get the attention of your intended demographic, in this case voters. Otherwise I also make political calls myself, consult with the firm and its clients on canvassing and strategy, and give my opinion on whether a contract should be avoided if it isn't already extremely clear (making calls for supporting a bill that's morally questionable, such as allowing pregnancy termination in the third trimester, is a good example.)

As a non partisan firm, their goal is to appeal to all sides, and have the largest demographic possible as clientele. Examples would be action groups/committees and pacs that need to contract out work because they can't find the manpower to do it in house. Be it because it's a small town, not very popular, or just not well known.

I work from home as a part time developer.
Its really comfy since i can work while eating/having a coup of tea and in complete silence.
On the other hand I have really few responsabilities so i can slack off if i need to.

part-time sounds comfy

It is.
Im an uni student and I work 60h per month for 500€.
I really like it since I have 0 experience and Im not that good, but im the only one following the software so I can manage most of the things myself

pls explain how to land this job, I've been failing in uni and I'm finishing up my thesis but I want to make a few neetbux before I graduate so I can prove to my own self-worth and parents that I can make my own lunch money and am not a waste of space.

Hey man can you teach me how to code?

>2019
>companies are still afraid of allowing remote work for their employees
what the fuck?

>Be from the Balkans
>Work in SEO
>Earn 500€ a month
>It's an okay wage for my country live a semi decent life
>for the exact same fucking work I'd get 5000$ in California.

Be happy they don't do this.

Because if they did. You'd be replaced by us, and we'd be replaced by even worse people from the Philippines and else ware...

All of us are replaceable by cheap skilled workers down south or east.

Attached: 1550919600624.png (415x441, 236K)

no user, 500€ is not an OK wage (osim ako radiš u konzumu)

remote worker here in engineering. project manager taking me under his wing teaching me the trade before he goes off to manage another group and leaves me here. pretty comfy. Job received though nepotism tho

they hired me at 50k and just cut my salary to 40k though. the guys who hired me said they got a lot of backlash for trying to pay me (unskilled) so much

Cost of living in Balkans is 10x lower than Cali.

$5000 in the Bay is far worse than $500 ... well pretty much anywhere else.

This. If no one is there to catch me goofing off, I'll goof off
I need the constant anxiety of judgment to do good work because I'm a fuck up

database programmer lol

you went insane a long time ago, freak

yes I am, although bare in mind italian developers earn like €1200-2000/month tops, while working remotely I'm €6500+

if you want to work on a proper environment you should get to Milan or Bologna, the rest is pretty shitty unless working remotely

It sure as fuck is in Macedonia mate. Your Croat standards don't work here.

>that poorfag cope

back, start by NOT trusting Jow Forums in any mean, basically do almost the opposite as what they suggest in every field, sadly I'm not even joking

also, why would I teach a random stranger for free? I get payed $50+/hour so I would better do an hour extra of my current work

not trying to be a cunt, just stating the situation

I retired at 30. How about you?

I'm not lying on the internet

Well here in Chile they are importing Colombians and Venezuelans for this same reason.

Remote work is a slippery slope that will ends up with you working your ass off all day everyday and your boss never being satisfied and putting any shortcoming on the fact you work remote.

never understood the appeal of 'retiring' in the sense that you no longer do anything productive i.e. the boomer fantasy. Working for other people is a fucking miserable existence and the best way for a man to live is in line with his craft. Key to a fruitful life is finding a craft, developing/refining skills, passing on the knowledge to the next generation, and combine that all with the stoic teachings(delay gratification, master physical training, etc.)

I'm going to assume that's the type of stuff you're doing at 30 as opposed to rotting and simply jerking yourself off with travel and other instagram fantasy bullshit.

To the guys with depression/anxiety (if you're arguing with people you don't know, online, then that's you.): Delete social media (discord too) from your phone, lift heavy weights, delete sugar from your diet, and condition yourself to be constantly learning and improving.)

>also, why would I teach a random stranger for free?
You're right but i thought id ask anyway.

>Key to a fruitful life is finding a craft
Video games, anime, TV series, building PCs, building other electronics shit.

>developing/refining skills
Learning Japanese to fap more efficiently.

>passing on the knowledge to the next generation
Reviewing tech/anime for people.

>combine that all with the stoic teachings
Masturbating slowly.

> Delete social media (discord too) from your phone
All of my real life friends use this.

>lift heavy weights
No need.

>delete sugar from your diet
40/30/30 why would you delete the 40?
Shit look at japs they eat a shitload of rice thats complex sugars called starches. They live the longest

> condition yourself to be constantly learning and improving
No need to od this, if you have a hobby this comes natural as the hobby evolves.

I am sure shift working electricians and mechanics find remote work very helpful.

Rightfully so, most people simply cannot do it without taking advantage and doing fuck all.

I can take remote work up to 2 times a week with no question asked. And I absolutely hate doing that.
When I pass the security gate at the office I'm at work. Eating breakfast or lunch? At work.
Taking a long shit while reading news? At work
Drinking coffee, talking with colleagues, playing tabletop tennis - still at fucking work and no one cares as long as my tasks are getting done.
Now when I'm at home I'm stressed out to get up for 2 minutes because someone may try to contact me at this time and think I'm slacking off. Fuck this noise

oh, I also have my workplace like 15 minutes walking from home. If I were to spend 2h a day in a car commuting I might saw it differently.

thanks Jow Forums bro

Poo in the loo raajeet

you are not alone frens, im a fuckup too

>To the guys with depression/anxiety (if you're arguing with people you don't know, online, then that's you.): Delete social media (discord too) from your phone, lift heavy weights, delete sugar from your diet, and condition yourself to be constantly learning and improving.)
I would add making fun of yourself but not falling into self-deprecation is also a good measure.

you can work remotely on weekends.

'retiring' while still young doesn't mean you stop doing anything productive and only masturbate to chinese cartoons. At least for me getting to a state where I'm financially independent means that I can work on stuff I want instead of having to work on stuff someone else wants to do. I can do it from wherever I want whenever I want. I can focus on my hobbies more, and if I want to take a few weeks off starting right now I can do it.

not trying to be snarky but you should brush up on those literacy skills in your free time.

>once my girlfriend graduates (accounting major) she'll be the primary breadwinner.
Cuck.

Stay mad

Will do cuck.

P0rn that's why remote work doesn't work

fuck off to reddit, normalfaggot

seething 9gagger

Any advice?

I'm in a small company and both of my co-workers are extremely lazy idiots who try to find any excuse not to do any work.

I would never trust them to work from home if I was the boss.

The reason the rest of us normal people can't enjoy remote work benefits is because of people like them.

>If I were to spend 2h a day in a car commuting I might saw it differently.
I believe you would, that's my main problem with work

>

I have bad anxiety but I don't usually really do much serious arguing, don't really use much and social media because I aint got much to say. Then again I also don't have a job yet and I'm in my 30s. The other suggestions though I can accept as actual suggestions. The sugar thing can be hard because it is in so much that you wouldn't even expect now that really best to just reduce it, you'll never completely delete it.

I'm not even the same person lmao

yes that's likely the biggest issue

however if you go full remote make sure you go with a company where EVERYONE is remote or at least the large part. In my case that issue is mitigated by the seniority level of the people on average (all around 5+ years of experience) but there's still some people that performs less or is on/off the whole day (inconsistent)

hi fren :3
the best thing in my career was being born in middle of europe
we are the middle ground for plenty of huge companies and cost-centres that realise that india is just too shitty yet still want some kind of quality
the "employee of the month" (corporation, dont bully) at our tower (5 countries, ~6k people) is 95% times filled by guys that sat 50m from me

doing L2(.5-ish) linux admin stuff from home, i make 1500 eur per month (3 times the country minimum, capital city average) while working from home across the country = that's 600-700 saved euros per month on housing, food (share with family), commute, socialising (stuff is cheaper in my shithole)

is what i'm afraid of... me and my (in)direct manager are the only 2 people (team of ~20) working from home, far away from open-office-hell and the moment they manage to pull the plug and force us to move to work from office is the day i will be handing in my resignation

thats what i plan to.. worked last 7 years in corporate, hoarded money, started learning py few months ago; going to uni at 26 to chill, enjoy erasmus, and plan to get some part time job - dev, qa, devops (yikes)

easiest way to get in is IT tech, call center in it corp, learn around in first year-two, move to more sane position (yes, they offer such positions even to students)
