Why are programmers obsessed with recursive acronyms?

>AROS — AROS Research Operating System
>BIRD — BIRD Internet Routing Daemon
>cURL — Curl URL Request Library
>GNU — GNU's Not Unix
>JACK — JACK Audio Connection Kit
>LAME — LAME Ain't an MP3 Encoder
>Nano — Nano's Another editor
>PHP — PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
>PIP — PIP Installs Packages
>RPM — RPM Package Manage
>WINE — WINE Is Not an Emulator
>GNU HURD — Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons

What kind of humour is this? Are these the same people who think Monty Python is funny, or is that another caste of nerd?

monty python is funny you tasteless fuck

Because functional programming languages are taking over. It's preparation.

>w-why are people having fun!!

ITT: OP is uncultured swine

Nerd things because CS begins unable found good names

>Monty Python isn't funny

What, the art history jokes go over your head or something?

If you don't understand recursion you're a shit programmer, and yes, it's the same people. Python the programming language isn't named after the snake.

they do it because it bamboozles people like you

Like I said, different castes of nerd.
I'm a "techy" and I can't stand Monty Python.
I believe this is genetically inborn and phenotypically based.

What is the shape of your skull?
Do you have a large or small forhead?
Is your forehead vertical or sloped?
Browridge or not?
Do you have an occipital bun or is the back of your head flat?
Do you have a large parietal area (top of head is not flat but raised, could be front back or middle)?
Do you have deep eye sockets or shallow ones?
Do you have broad temporal lobes (area above your ears) or are they in line with the outside edges of your eyes?

I am a starchild. Tell me my fate.

since when is Monty Python 'nerdy'
is that an American thing

...

because they're clever. and you're not.

The only good thing about PHP is the name. It's the best of the bunch given the purpose.

The worst part is that the first character doesn't even matter; they're 100% arbitrary. It's just a way to force the acronym to match a word without actually having to be clever.

>AROS — Amiga Research Operating System
>RPM — Red Hat Package Manage
sometimes they used trademarks (for the first initial) that needed to be replaced

>cURL — "see" URL, client URL
>nano — 1000 times larger than pico

Because recursion is cool and names are hard.

php is a backronym though

So are most of those.

Phrenology is a pseudoscience and will stay a pseudoscience until it starts generating testable hypotheses.
