It exists, just not enabled by default.
I prefer keeping icons as close as possible to the start button to avoid dragging the cursor across my entire screen. If you have a touchscreen it doesn't matter as much.

Frfr fuck the niggas who said 7 was soooooo much better than 8, (I didn't like the start menu full screen tho so I'm glad I got the option to disable it later on ) But other than that and a few very real compatibility errors with old ass windows xp apps, they are the same OS just like how Vista and 7 are the same OS, even windows 10 is still Longhorn

I thought everybody does that, it gives uniformity between OSs and DEs too, I can come to KDE or GNOME DE on Linux from Windows and just do literally the same - press start and type shit. There is little to no reason to do it other way imo.

Because Microsoft were so bad at introducing it and the autism factor made people freak that they got rid of the objectively terrible start menu so they had to bring it back and hobble the start screen ux.
