How do you realistically prevent baiting and thread derailment from happening in a forum/imageboard...

How do you realistically prevent baiting and thread derailment from happening in a forum/imageboard? Other than deleting individual posts like a sissy faggot.

upvote and downvote systems

Don't invite retards and especially political retards. A userbase that can identify and ignore trolling isn't susceptible to it.

gb2 reddit

>he thinks safe spaces are a good idea

Is that not the premise of this thread? Achieving a "space" that is "safe" from being intruded upon by trolls?

Don't engage retarded faggots in conversation or get down to their level. Tell every newfag to lurk more before posting. Always post quality content.

>upvote and downvote systems

this leads to pandering, which is dishonest and worthless.

Yes but how does "not inviting trolls" even work especially if the userbase starts growing?

>nephage hasn't read the rules of the internet
>it's like laws of physics you are dumb if you think you can prevent it.
>google rules of the internet. educate yourself.

Banning people, freedom is a lie.

Active moderation, but also active interaction from moderators. Set standards of discussion for the community and allow for user input. Jow Forums will never have these things unfortunately.

No. Deleting it literally is the best option. Global rule 3 is very clear. Trolling isn't allowed anywhere outside of /b/. If the janitors and mods simply enforced this rule like they enforce other rules there'd be no problem.

You use "AI" and "deep learning algorithms" to "proactively" block any content "suspected" of being "toxic"

Why is everything you say greentexted?

Easy, deep learning ban bait imagenes and pasta detector, plus shadowbanning.

But sites like this never will use any advance tech

you don't. the more posts a thread has the less on topic they are, just like any real-life conversation. this happens during any communication event and shouldn't be seen as a downside. it's interesting to see how people make connections between different conversation topics and what associations people have. a lot of tangentially related topics bring new information to the original topic and further discourse.

pastas rarely do get a ton of replies and almost never ever derails an entire thread since the pasta might be vaguely related to the topic at hand. What derails a thread is something that might trigger a bunch of people like the word "incel" or "trump" or some fat neckbeard wearing a MAGA hat.

>baiting and thread derailment
Tangential discussion doesn't come under any of those two and it does not add any fruitful discussion in any form whatsoever.

Ban bait images.
Plus
trace bait user and build machine learning model agains them.

> example Guy post several baits and never replied then ban and delete post.

Sybil-attack resistant networks like Urbit.

looks interesting. I didn't understand shit.

allowing strangers to tell you what you are allowed to say on an anonymous forum online.
I prefer honesty, thanks though. Have fun on reddit.

By not having image and not doing any sorting other than by time. The downside is that nobody would use a textonly site because most users on site like this and reddit are half-retarded whose ideals and action does not match up (example: yelling about botnet and going back to use all botnet services, applying to all botnet jobs, using 4chins that has botnet and solving botnet captcha). These monkeys also needs other incentive than just discussion to keep coming back to a place. The other shithole boards on this site or other shithole subreddits to keep them entertained makes them come back. So even if you get these retards to come to your site for a day or two, it will be deserted in a week.

Analyze responses for trigger words such as "bait", then analyze the original posts for common words, combinations of words or files, then automatically create a suggestion filter list for an administrator to approve for automated use.

>tfw the general populace is bunch of brain-dead sheeps
we need a community of intellectual elites

You make it comfy. That is the crucial difference between /cyb/ and /hmg/, and it works.

Is this a man? I need to know before I can masturbate

Maybe you should have some standards instead of jacking it to the first mildly erotic image you see on an imageboard

Shadowbanning is söyboy-tier

Only if you allow users to see the amount of votes in either direction. Keep it as anonymous as the users

That's exactly what the mods of this site do, except here there's no transparency.

It's not a man but she has a penis

rope yourself my guy

be engaged with the site and post good content, lead by example, keep the site niche enough that it doesn't get mainstream appeal
if you want actual results then get moderators paid through revenue share overseen by competent community managers preferably with public relation experience/degrees and with input on moderation direction from yourself (/owners), this should be good until it gains real mainstream popularity or until the owners change but what do you expect

popularity contest

>he thinks censorship through flooding and derailment is any better

>If the janitors and mods simply enforced this rule like they enforce other rules there'd be no problem.
low quality/offtopic posts are pruned after a few hours if at all and only if reported, you'll sometimes get warned depending on how assblasted you made the janny/mod

shadowbanning is cancer, its only utility is for blatant spam accounts but an ip ban or active moderation would be better

>he hasn't been warned/banned for wrongthink before
cute

>By not having image and not doing any sorting other than by time.
time based sorting is still open to forum sliding attacks
I don't think hackernews is a good example to use because the user base is retarded but they do have a system where threads decay off of the front page faster when the frequency of posts increases as it's indicative of a bunch of autists having an argument in the comments that nobody cares about

if upvotes/downvotes are to be hidden from the users then you still can't allow sorting based off of that information, in which case there's very little utility in upvotes and downvotes become a weak report button

some women have a penis, user, deal with it

get a mature userbase that understands people have different points of view.

t. leftycuck

The only realistic effective option I see is to be a board with a tiny userbase and little mention around the web.
AKA all of the chans that nobody visits

(you) have disagreed with me, please wait a few minutes for 5 people redirect you to >>>/leftypol/

nobody browses infinitychan and it still sucks

alt boards have always been less popular, but if you want better quality you generally need to go to slower boards

Why does it matter?Should an imageboard be fun?If you want strict rules make accounts and call it a day but don't say you want people to enjoy themselves you don't

I'm not talking about that one, but rather the way smaller ones with maybe 4 new comments a day.

Two options, force ip tied names to users, and allow people to filter out any posts/comments made by those people. Let the community sort out what it feels is derailment or baiting. Quickly, the baiters and retards will be yelling in a room where no one will hear them.

The other option is for people who are contributing to any post/conversation to merely ignore the obvious baiters and derailments. Any replies to baiters or derailers are treated as samefags replying to their own shit and also ignored. This would be manual user side filtering since we have to read the post and decide if it's shit or not.

Really easy stuff. The people who complain about derailment and baiters are the same people who are baiting and trying to derail shit. Just ignore it like the Army jacket wearing hobo on the street corner with a $200 bike.

>How do you realistically prevent baiting and thread derailment from happening in a forum/imageboard? Other than deleting individual posts like a sissy faggot.

How about if people simply refrain from using political language. For example it's clear that nobody wants programming to be infected by a big CoC being thrust down their throats. So dont talk like some left wing twat and the thread wont get derailed

>don't trigger me and I won't go postal
magatards are truly snowflakes

there are other ways to deal with derailing than having strict rules, the OP is asking for ideas for what those methods would be

you'll still end up with at least 2 segregated groups but it would be worse than this because new users will enter threads with multiple distinct conversations that are only getting replied to by people in their own in-group
it wouldn't be like Jow Forums where you'll just be ignoring tripfags

>simply refrain from using political language
>dont talk like some left wing twat

put systemd and coc in your filters list.

Jow Forums was perfectly fine until the mobile horde invasion.
Mobile users and their 2.4 seconds attention span are to blame.
