When Will Windows Clean Up Its Act?

Why is Windows still so full of shit? Namely, the old icons, those shifting menues (a la Disk Clean Up), having to go to three differnet place for various settings. And the worst... duplicate software.

>Notepad, no word counter or dark mode
>Wordpad, word counter but no page break
>Textpad, don't even know anymore
>Microsoft Word, no .txt.

>Control Panel, messy
>Settings, modern and organized, unistalling a program just opens control panel

>Windows Media Player, requires activation lol
>Groove Music, shit

>Paint, kino tier software
>Paint 3D, literally no improvements, does the exact same thing with a new UI

Is Windows 11 (or whatever they are gonna call it) gonna actually cut the fat?

nigga, the irony of your post. you know your pepe was made in paint?

We all have fond memories of making shit in paint when we were younger, and I still do a quick edit to highlight something in red like a clause in a document to send to people.

Paint is kino, prove me wrong.

They need to clean their room

The best part is how they replaced help files with a link to a fixed search request in Bing.
The other day I say it in the "new" control panel (or whatever that crap is called) about the Light settings. It was literally opening a link in fucking Bing to tell which other part of that control panel thing to go to.
I've worked for small companies, hiring interns, mentoring newbies, and I've tolerated a lot of hacks and crap. But honestly nothing in that vein.

This is consistent with how we are regressing as a civilization thanks to diversity. That crap would have never flied before Microsoft was filled with incompetent Pajeets.

>This is consistent with how we are regressing as a civilization thanks to diversity. That crap would have never flied before Microsoft was filled with incompetent Pajeets.
literal truth there. The fact they have candy crush on here and other suggested shit makes my blood boil. There is one single reason I use Windows at all, and that is for steam. Got a ps4 recently so now the only stuff I even use stema for is retro games like Arcanum and Deus Ex. I suppose I can ge tthem to run on Mint or some sensible OS, no?

your pepe is made with paint, dumb pajeet

this. the whole image makes me wanna cry

Ironically the legacy GUI remains as the best performing aspect of any of the settings menus.

The newer settings menus aren’t responsive, violate basic switch on/off logic, etc

Attached: FEAFD45E-A8CD-4B14-A838-2AAEBCFAD614.png (600x501, 17K)

>violate basic switch on/off logic
how do you mean?

What anoys me is pic related. The back up menu is literally just an option to switch off. Then all the settings you might use are behind a "More Options" menu. Why tho?

I've "upgraded" my private computer to Win10 several times out of various reasons and rolled back to a Win7 image within less than a week every time. They've started to roll out Win10 on new computers at work and I'm kinda scared of the day that they'll take away my Win7 PC.

mine are all gone cos I fell for "muh constantly up to date with dah latest software" meme. I thought it'd be like firefox is now, I open it and I am at v65.0.0 rather than v64.0.0. What a fucking fool. Is there anyway to go back to windows 7? I am selling my laptop so maybe I will just keep 10 on there as some normie will insist on having the latest version anyway.

They have Internet Explorer and Edge out of the box. Why would they not remove IE? You're gonna install Chrome or Firefox anyway so that's already 3-4 browsers.

Settings is garbage, in Mouse Settings it doesn't even have sensitivity, it has 4 useless options nobody cares about and then you have Advanced settings which opens up Control Panel. Why not just use fucking Control Panel or have all the options in Settings?

Windows Media Player still has W7 Aero theme cause it's outdated and should just be removed cause nobody uses it. Groove is kinda shit and shouldn't exist.

Why even have Notepad when Wordpad has more features?

They have apps like Mixed Reality and shit which nobody uses. That should exist as a separate app you can download. That applies to pretty much all preinstalled garbage.

Windows should make Windows 11 without any of their native piece of shit duplicate apps and let us download what we want since we do it anyway. It will cut down the size and it's probably gonna be faster.

>w10
>takes ages to boot on a brand new laptop w/ 8gb ddr4 and a m.2 ssd
>slow
>buggy
>ubuntu
>the shittiest distro
>still boots quick on spinning rust
>fast and responsive on a relatively modern laptop
>other better distros
>fast and responsive on a 11 year old thinkpad

i fucking hate windows. I have it on my desktop for vidya and editing a podcast I'm on and its awful. Even W7 is shitty. The other day i exited out of a fullscreen game and my fucking toolbar was halfway up the screen. I have never had a problem with any decent loonix distro.

Hey what's up you absolutely pecan brained monkey, you dont need steam to play arcanum or deus ex, and you dont need windows for steam.

>Edge
This. can't believe I missed this. Isn't Windows 8GBs or something? Why all this bloatware.

>Settings is garbage, in Mouse Settings it doesn't even have sensitivity, it has 4 useless options nobody cares about and then you have Advanced settings which opens up Control Panel. Why not just use fucking Control Panel or have all the options in Settings?
Are you me? This is exactly what I say every time i open up settings

>Windows should make Windows 11 without any of their native piece of shit duplicate apps and let us download what we want since we do it anyway. It will cut down the size and it's probably gonna be faster.
This is the only solution and I have been saying it since W10 launched. Why have they not done it though. They put so much effort and time and money into developing Edge and can't be bothered to uninstall IE? Is it some programming thing a normie like me won't get? Is it really hard to gut an OS like it's a dead relatives house?

>I have it on my desktop for vidya
this is mee 100% because I don't trust Steam's new Proton version of wine or whatever it is that lets you atuomatically boot a vidya in Steam for Linux. It booted The Witcher 3 really well actually in a demo, and that's not even supported, but I don't wanna avoid a shit OS only to run into just as much shit with my primary program. Any exp with it user?

I am aware, but I had to download a bunch of shit to run ARcanum properly on W10, and that shit was released for windows to begin with. What lengths would I have to go to to run it off Linux? What bizzarre programs would I need for that I wonder?

Notepad starts up faster and uses less resources.
Mouse settings has mouse acceleration which does matter to a lot of people ("enhance pointer precision") and needs to be turned off ASAP.
Internet Explorer is for backwards compatibility. There are many websites that need older versions of I.E. to function properly especially for businesses (Allscripts and Crimson come to mind).
Settings not having every option available in it is so the "average" user doesnt get overwhelmed with too many confusing things on the screen at once. Being able to go straight to advanced settings from that panel is convenient and easier for remote support to walk someone through if the option isnt there on basic settings. The fact that it just opens control panel is for consistency between power users and non power users.
Just because you dont use a theme doesnt mesn a theme should be removed. I'm surprised windows media player is still included but whatever.
You can remove a lot of preinstalled garbage with a PowerShell command.
People have made hacked ISO with a lot of win10 bloat cut out of them. I wont post any here but you can find them. They almost fit on one dvd lol ;)
It is probably easier to run it in a win98 virtual machine than it is to get it to run "natively" on win10.
Honestly between wine, dxvk, proton, lutris, there's almost no games I have to boot Windows for. I even played through dark souls 3 on manjaro lol.

>people unironically use this shit as a DD

Games is the last bastion they have control over and more and more linux is breaking that monopoly.

>Notepad starts up faster and uses less resources.
How much resources does it need? Anyway, just pick one and if that's not enough you can always download Notepad++ or something which is what people do anyway.
>Mouse settings has mouse acceleration which does matter to a lot of people ("enhance pointer precision") and needs to be turned off ASAP.
It is still lacking in options, that's what they are for
>Settings not having every option available in it is so the "average" user doesnt get overwhelmed with too many confusing things on the screen at once. Nothing about it is confusing. The problem is you think of an average user as a -50IQ retard. Just add all the settings in one place it is 100% going to be better for everyone.
>You can remove a lot of preinstalled garbage with a PowerShell command.
That's another problem I have with W10. After a "clean" install (full of bloatware btw) you need to spend time looking for shit and disabling it.

>that girl

Every fucking time. It's from some cartoon I used to watch as a kid. Still no idea who she is.

>Why is Windows still so full of shit?
H1Bs happened.

Attached: Shit - the country.jpg (659x466, 29K)

Windows is dead. Install a non-shit operating system and move on with your life.

>Notepad starts up faster and uses less resources.
tbf, I use it for copywriting that will need to be read by a website which i do for a living, which is why i'd like a word counter.

>Mouse settings has mouse acceleration which does matter to a lot of people ("enhance pointer precision") and needs to be turned off ASAP.
yeah, and why not have both in there?

>Internet Explorer is for backwards compatibility. There are many websites that need older versions of I.E. to function properly especially for businesses (Allscripts and Crimson come to mind).
Edge MUST be able to do some of this, surely, and if it can't then it is the onus of the web dev to get their site up to scratch. Microshit shouldn't be holding back their OS for some geocities-tier website that specialists use.

>Settings not having every option available in it is so the "average" user doesnt get overwhelmed with too many confusing things on the screen at once. That's not consistency, and power users I am sure will appreciate a sensible and efficient change. This was the excuse with Vista cock ups too, Steve Balmer saying its all about muh power users and businesses at his keynote and no one looks back fondly on the days of Vista. Also, the OS is not so packed with features that a single settings app will be overcrowded user.

>Just because you dont use a theme doesnt mesn a theme should be removed. I'm surprised windows media player is still included but whatever.
Yeah it should. Aero is a resource hog and they spent time and effort making Groove which is shit. Why not spend a little extra making it work and remove the resource hog. Kill two birds with one stone.

>You can remove a lot of preinstalled garbage with a PowerShell command.
>People have made hacked ISO with a lot of win10 bloat cut out of them. I wont post any here but you can find them. They almost fit on one dvd lol ;)
The old "if I go out of my way to fix it, it works, therefore whats the problem?" excuse. This has gotta die user, really. MS should fucking get it fixed and polished, not rely on normie users like me who are not familiar with powershell going to google and figuring out how to remove the People app.

>It is probably easier to run it in a win98 virtual machine than it is to get it to run "natively" on win10.
I should just run it in VirtualBox for Linux and it'll work fine?

>Honestly between wine, dxvk, proton, lutris, there's almost no games I have to boot Windows for. I even played through dark souls 3 on manjaro lol.
Impressive on DS3 lol. I tried wine once ages ago and found it a real pain though. I am a normie and it's only becuase I am a normie I don't move to linux full time. Is it getting easier?

>That's another problem I have with W10. After a "clean" install (full of bloatware btw) you need to spend time looking for shit and disabling it.
this was the biggest tech related dissappointment of my year, when I got sick of the W10 bloat and the shit MSI put on my laptop, so I thought I would do a purge like some Hindu god and end the universe, then I got the fucking Candy Crush tile back.

It's from the Goofy Movie iirc. Weird feelings were installed in my brain the day I saw that film and I think I am a pervert thanks to that and Nala from the Lion King and her "come fuck me" eyes.

>95% of Indian programs cannot write code that compiles
Read this somewhere recently and I wanted to blow my brains out. I am British, so we have a lot more Indians than California does I think.

but I am a normie and am afraid I can't get muh Deus Ex and arcanum and Fallout to run on Wine.

Holy shit thanks so much. I'm going to rewatch this shit. These fucking disney girls fucked with my head

You answered your question with your own example lmao

You didn't become a furry did you? That's where a lot of furries started (stuff like robin hood) There needs to be a damn warning label.

Make a better one. Boom, you just became multi-billionaire and are helming global conglomerate with thousands of workers. You make it sound so fucking trivial so do it. Cocksucking freetard faggot.

Well gadget was literally my first love but I dont fap to furry porn or anything

Oh phew you dodged a bullet.

nice strawman you got there. It is not remotely difficult to NOT have candy cruch pre-installed in an OS. It is LESS work to make a settings app that moves all of the control panel to this new software, rather than build half of it and then amintain Windows forums to help people figure out how to solve your Rubiks cude of an OS. The "make a better one" excuse is used only by the most smug and self serving faggots who smirk as they are getting ploughed by the MS dick and call it "being reasonable".

I never became a furry, althoguh they certainly were not Sesame Street tier anthropomorphic animals, that's for sure. They do something weird to you. Thanks a lot (((Disney))).

Ah right, thanks user.

>They do something weird to you.

I'll say...

Seriously though, how many gigs you got?

bout tree fiddy

Funny you mention this: Apparently the drivers for Windows WMR headsets are built into the Windows 10, as well as 2 3D rendered houses that act as a menu for when you boot it up, and a little tech demo to get you used to the controls. Good if you cheaped out on your VR like me and got one of them. Worthless bloatware if you have a vive or oculus, or just don't care about VR. Also bad if you own a WMR headset and wanna use it on linux, cause it won't work.

the fuck? There is a 3D menu orientation like with my Samsung Gear just sat on my Windows PC right this fucking second? Why are these people not out of business?

Well I am into some /d/ shit... Not furry though.

No I can't stop

MS Paint is probably the best thing Microsoft has made.

I would imagine the first Halo game is close second if that counts.

Attached: unnamed.gif (400x220, 3.65M)

the fuck is this from, I cant even remeber that one?

I had to build a new computer and install Windows 10 last week because my previous computer died and I need my computer for work. The whole thing is such a fucking mess for a "fresh install."

I did manage to disable Cortana to the point where the search bar is now only a basic off-line search and I'm not getting all the annoying messages, and I was able to configure Windows so it doesn't require a password on EVERY. FUCKING. BOOT. (I only lock the computer to keep a curious landlord or visiting tech-illiterate relative from prying), but there are several other annoyances, like the fact that there are 20 fucking icons in my system tray, which is all Windows shit and basic drivers. The start menu is an animated fucking mess, but I got rid of some of the bullshit. Speaking of booting, I've got it installed on a Samsung 970 Pro M.2 SSD and it takes noticeably longer to boot up than my last system, which had Windows 8.1 on it. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix that.

Part of the problem is my drivers. For some fucking reason, there are a lot of duplicate programs doing the same thing (it doesn't help that my GPU and mobo are both Asus branded, but for some fucking reason Logitech saw fit to install two duplicitous programs for my mouse), and I will have to comb through that shit later to see which ones are obsolete.

File associations was a headache. It seems like Windows is unable to associate file extensions with new programs until you wait at least an hour after your first try to try again. I have no idea why, but half the file associations failed at first, but worked when I tried an hour later.

The control panel so far has proven to be hot garbage, but nothing has gotten in the way of my getting work done -- so far. One annoyance is I have a wireless keyboard with touchpad that I use for sitting back and watching media, and I've found that Windows has no way to control the touchpad sensitivity of just that device, since Logitech doesn't provide a driver.

I dunno, its not disney but holy shit these faggots got anime industry beat

This, paint is utter shit. I haven't used windows since w7, but paint had major issues then.
>no transparency
>dragging to resize image while zoomed in almost always incorrectly placed the image borders, thus overcutting or undercutting an image
>poor format support
>no relevant effects
Having used KolourPaint since I moved to Linux really opened my eyes on how paint.exe is utter shit, like ALL default windows apps/tools/software.

I think it's Cool World.

Indians that work oversees (at least lives their permanently and not on some H1 visa) are ok programmers. Probably the same tier as most CS graduates nowadays. They are just used as a scapegoat on Jow Forums by NEETs. The real issue are the diversity hire designers that probably all use MacOS so they never use the abomination that they create.

When Apple finally kills their computer line and MacOS with it, that would hopefully change. Or they'll use iPads instead.

Post more cartoon waifus

WordPad is basically just msword barebones. The point is it supports doc / docx in the most minimal possible way. Notepad is JUST a text editor.

IE is kept around for compatibility shit.
For example, you can only use Southwest airlines' VPN portal with IE. It doesn't work with any other browser, even Edge. Any web design has to be designed to work in IE, so if a browser has to be sacrificed for some reason, IE is the one that sticks around.

Not him but I just got back from my first furry convention. The tech there was pretty interesting.
With every day that passed I felt more like going full degenerate and boning a boi, should I just neck myself already?

Nah, just find other hobbies and you will be fine

continue and join the furry mafia that runs the internet

Literally everything you describe is a daily struggle. Luckily I never build PCs and just have a laptop, but boy does everything act subobtimally for me. Problem now is that I have a 3 year old MSI GS70 which is a he'll of a machine all round that always asks to repair the disk on boot and takes about 60 seconds to open recycling bin, or any desktop folder and my browser always freezes upon download of a jpeg. It runs like a dog all of a sudden. I used disk clean-up to compress 22 GB of storage which is maybe 1/5th of what I have on that, run bleachbit daily and did a fresh install around Christmas. But oh no, it still runs like a paraplegic. Why must this software, which is to MS what the Model T was to Ford, be so laggy and buggy and garbage?

Heresy, paint is the fondest and comfiest of memories. Yeah it has it's shortcoming but it is the philosophy MS needs.
>simple
>basic interface that doesn't reinvent the wheel
>has one job to do
>up until recently it wasn't split across multiple programs like everything else.
>never crashed on me once.
>opens nearly every file to quickly edit and highlight shit
>friendly for retards so if a relative needs to cross out sensitive info before sending a file I can suggest paint and they already know the felt tip marker will have them covered.
If very team that worked on MS software worked on it like paint we might have a half decent OS.

Nah brother, that stat is l3git. According to the telegraph it really is 95 percent of programmers from Indis, whether there or here. But I understand what you mean, there are other factors at work. They really all use macOS at MS? That shit is sad, I'd snap if my team were using Macs because they product they worked on was crap. I'd tell them to fix it until they were happy with it or fuck off and enjoy there iFruit somewhere else.

You think they will? There is still so many hipsters with that shining apple logo in coffee shops around the world that aren't really working on much at all to satisfy.

Textedit for Mac is both, why not these two? With a keyboard command you switch between rtf and txt with textedit. They both have word counters iirc and are perfect for every kind of word processing save embedded images and fancy fonts and colours, so it is hardly even going to cannibalize sales of office software.

>has one job to do
Which is to crop screenshots because windows is garbage and doesn't have selective screenshots. And paint FAILS to crop. So it fails at it's one job.

I think this is the excuse to end excuses. If a company like SW Air needs it's online portal accessing, it'll fix it when no one can log on. I work at a company whose websites are all tested on IE first and Firefox and chrome second for legacy reasons too, but if IE went, we'd make damn sure the site worked on every alternative there was.

Tell us more. Was it a full blown fuck fest or was the boi part just your own obsession?

No, snipping tool fails it's job and another program failing to pick up the slack is it that program failing. The other uses I mentioned are where people use paint the most.

Laggards always insist on keeping things the same, so it takes a few versions of Windows for any change to be complete.

Either you're an idealist or underage.
Go and work corporate IT for a bit and then let's see through those points again. And no, being a tech evangelist or some pseudoshit "power user" doesn't count.

90% of users are -50IQ retards, especially bad are people who think they know anything and then fuck up more than those who know and accept their dumbness and ask for help

Windows is not an operating system, it's a backwards compatibility solution and should be only used as such. MS's own new projects aren't even Windows based anymore.

I got WSL to get a good redis setup on my machine, and my fucking GOD I love Linus Torvalds. No homo but I'd suck off the entire linux dev and maintenance squad.

I don't think Microsoft will ever overhaul Winblows 10 cause they never admit that they've failed.

Fucking boomers honestly thinking windows was ever good, windows was never good, NEVER everything was just worse or non compatible.

That room is what happens when your office is no longer provided a recycling service and the wrong man is having a hard time coming into work because the school system is only practical to stay at home, married parents, which he is not, because nobody is.

You're doing something wrong then. Boots in about 3 seconds on my m.2 laptop.

They don't have to optimize windows. People buy it regardless, so you can expect them to never trim the fat. They also opt to create "new features" rather than improving upon old ones. Hence why powershell is a thing instead of just making Cmd better.

What I'm wondering is, how tf are people not outraged over the fact they are paying for adware

A few version? Nigga it's been years since 10 released.

Neither underage or evangelist and don't know what you have issues with but if you are suggesting corporate IT firms kik MS cannot make substantial changes to their product then you've been working for general motors tier companies. This
