I was thinking today about how prolific pirating was when I was a teenager, it's massive rise to popularity and the people who made it big. It made me happy to think of those good times, but it made me think, do young people today pirate? Do they even know HOW to pirate? Or do they subscribe to subscription services like a bunch of retarded insects?

Bump.

mostly the latter, sadly.
I remember sitting on a shitty connection downloading games for days and trying everything to make them work. Copying CDs was the main route of distribution.

Now I see people complaining how they can't copy over a crack.exe on torrent sites. Jesus christ they are retarded.

Kids nowadays prefer watching others play on youtube and sometimes twitch though. They are indoctrinated pretty well sadly.

also, calling it piracy itself is a win for big IP

Thanks random user for bumping my thread for me.
That's really fucking sad my man. It scares me just how fucking indoctrinated kids these days are to obey authority and believe mass media without question. I legitimately believe zoomers will be the last generation of humanity.

Nah, I'm at the beginning of Gen Z and all my peers are fucking clueless. If you weren't exposed to internet culture early on or at least understand the protocol at a basic level and what's going on - there will be that 'virus' fear factor involved that will deter users

23 and yes I do. ppl think I'm a weirdo though

I doubt anyone here has any actual statistics to back up their claims so I'd take anything you read with a grain of salt. I'd estimate the incidence is the same if not greater, but I too don't have hard data.

I'm relatively young and I only how to pirate
no subscription service because paranoid with my finances and I like to keep my shekels in a bunch UNTIL I need them (also shit bandwidth so buffer is suffer)
problem is, sans the modern torrents, nothing is seeded and most magnets are dead or hit a brick wall at x%
holy fuck do I wish more normalmen used torrents instead of streaming
>tl;dr:
just a blogpist you're free to hide

It's like zoomers are reverse boomers, they're just as equally retarded when it comes to understanding technology.

Public trackers are normie as fuck. You're the same as them.

Yeah well they missed the wild west days so it's understandable. They grew up with iphones and 'apps'.

most normal fags just use subscription services but most of them probably wouldn't have pirated either because they can just about use facebook. I'm 20 and have been torrenting since i was about 8 when my uncle showed me how to use torrents

Try lurking sites like torrent invites and opentrackers.org and you'll be able to get on an at least half-decent private tracker in no time. DDL sites like snahp are also good if you prefer DDL.

what is even sadder, the state of drm is pretty much the same or worse than before. We had region coded dvds, now we have disappearing itunes or whatever they complain about. It is still 10 times easier to 'pirate' than trying to the right thing*

*according to Mr. Shekelberg

And then theres spotify, the most useless garbage ever, that even cost money. I mean, you can stream that shit off youtube if you wish so, come on.

also, people not realizing streaming is downloading just more wasteful baka

Your uncle sounds badass

Don't forget that the most popular games among kids at the moment are "free" - ignoring the many stories of kids stealing parents CCs for in game currency.

the only private tracker I use is for metal and it's still not much better than public ones
>inb4 just use slsk
someday

hes pretty cool kek he got me into cs source around the same time aswell

>And then theres spotify
Apple music is vastly superior and actually worth the money, it has a larger catalog, and the ability to upload your own music (i.e. pirated music) to their servers to access anywhere. Its a superior GPM, I also think it has a 100k upload limit too, or even more. Sorry for the shilling.

I think I still have a demonoid account

i think google play does the same thing. i think spotify jsut got big due to their advertising and i think came before apple music and google play music but i might be wrong on that point

demonoid shut down a few months ago i think desu

rather safe than having shit ton of malware and bitcoin miners
also don’t talk about common sense when dealing with warez cause there might be a zero-day

In a few years you'll need to deal with irc bots just to download something.

I was torrenting all the shit when I was a dirt poor kid/teen. Now that I'm a grown up with a job I have a Netflix subscription and pay for the games I play (usually a year after or so after release in a sale for 20-40% of original price)

The only stuff I still "pirate" is media which I can't legally acquire by any means (shows that never make it out of the US for example) or take way too long to be available here. Usually still buy it afterwards tho for peace of mind

>shit ton of malware and bitcoin miners
that only happens to retards who download trash
>don’t talk about common sense when dealing with warez cause there might be a zero-day
if you only get legit scene releases that is very uncommon but i'll take that point because theres always a possibility

Just use RED

Virgin file sharer Chad pirate

thats already the best source for ebooks

Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)

If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”

A US judge, presiding over a trial for copyright infringement, recognized that “piracy” and “theft” are smear words [ torrentfreak.com/mpaa-banned-from-using-piracy-and-theft-terms-in-hotfile-trial-131129/ ].

>i think google play does the same thing
Yeah I said that, but Apple has a bigger catalog and better playlists.
>i think spotify jsut got big due to their advertising and i think came before apple music and google play music but i might be wrong on that point
Apple actually has significantly more subscribes in the US now fucking LEL

The entire Internet has turned against piracy for some weird fucking reason. Every forum these days just says not to do it and to supoort creators. Fuck allthat noise.

I have a wife, a son, a house, decent paying job and 170k in liquid assets. Netflix is a fucking lo\ quality joke. Fucking kill yourself my dude.

If stuff is priced well I'll buy it. I feel bad pirating a $10 indie game, but I feel even worse buying a $60 game they will sell 10 million copies of and could just have easily charged $30 for.

I think it torrenting reached its peak at 2008. When iirc %25 of whole internet ''weight'' was on torrents.
I really think late 2000s was the peak. Torrenting was much better than p2p share or the filestorage webpages, first one was either shitty (with software like napster/bearshare etc) or too arcane for many users, latter was painfull, the whole cutdown into 100parts and upload them on rapidshare thing.

the pre crackdowning of torrent sites and pre subscription service boom was absolutely the peak.

Subscribing to a cheap unlimited storage provider like opendrive and then pirating the shit out of every game, movie, book, etc. I can find makes me feel like a king. It's an awesome feeling to feel like I have it all.

>you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it.
I'm fucking reclaiming the term nigga, when they call you a shitty name, take that name and wear it with pride.

>prefer watching others play on youtube
that's because games are annoying and tiring

... and play for the enemy team? no

Youtube-gen don't pirate because they don't even play it When they play, they will rather play f2p gacha-shits because it's sense of community like fortnite or other dog shits.

Why does your meme have white borders? Are you from facebook?

:^)

Younger people are completsly retarded when it comes to pirating. Most of them aren't against it, but they wouldn't know how to use torrents even if you showed them. I've had people ask me to send them links to stuff you can find with a 10 second search on public trackers. It's embarrassing.

why would i use a private tracker if i can find everything i want on public trackers?

lul yeah my uncle taught me how to torrent as well. he even let me use his computer to download shit i want and then burn them on cds over the weekend. i guess piracy is what got me on tech path.

as a zoomer I can safely say that most everyone I know (including "techies") are fucking retarded and do not know how to pirate and/or apply a crack to a program to save their god damn life.
I'm so glad that my father taught me this at a relatively young age because holy fuck these people either can't or won't learn how to do it.

i wounder how they define file sharing

Good catch. Never paid attention to it. I got it here. Here I fixed it for you.

Attached: 1521515424062.png (500x455, 119K)

hai same desu. i'm gonna take it as my duty to teach my nephews how to pirate if i have them kek

RED?

won't hurt me try out
thanks on recs user

same same

>then pirating the shit out of every game, movie, book, etc.
Do you actually watch the stuff you pirate? That's the biggest problem of the hoarder pirate, I think. You become a collector instead of a media enthusiast, like a bibliophile with a library of rare books he hasn't even opened.

No prob fellow user.

also because of zombie phones were pushed on all the normies. What can you do with a tiny ass screen on 3g/4g? watch some pixelated influencer making shitty jokes and subscribe to my channel

it turns out, most people don't even like computers (as in desktop and laptops) that much, they just want to tap screens

>incidence is the same if not greater
If I had to bet money on it, I'd bet on zoomers pirating about the same amount of video. The big difference is likely that their pirating does not involve torrents or direct file downloads. They probably just stream their shit from sites like kisswhatever.

fortunately most of the new stuff is pure garbage

>virus' fear factor involved that will deter users

There are fucloads of actually malicious keygens and cracks.
>Just run a keygen bro
>Boom you got a trojan that installed 350 other trojans and counting
>No antivirus can remove 100% of this shit

Which is why I after all these years avoid pirating software as much as possible,

anyone traded/copied amiga games at school?

plot twist, all the displosable 8k media normies download are just sponsored content anyway

>nothing is seeded
What media are you talking about, specifically? Anime is seemed plenty well. I don't care for recent movies, but they also seem to good public torrents. You don't go to torrents for music. You install Nicotine (but mind the OPSEC and don't leak info you don't want through the file paths if you share).

People share bigger files now since technology has progressed. Wouldn't necessarily say more people are pirating, probably less desu.

windows is the original trojan, you pc answers to redmond
just wipe that shit clean, it is not that hard if you are not willing to use a condom, I mean a VM

this only ever happened to me once back around 10 years ago. Just don't download shit that looks shady. Use a reputable source.

What if they try to make fapping illegal by calling it rape? Do you think it's a good idea to proudly call youself a rapist and would you try to convince the society that rape is a beautiful and jesus approved thing?
Calling file sharing 'piracy' is just as dumb.

>that's because games are annoying and tiring
zoom zoom zoom

Pretty much this, my dad's downloaded shit for decades and got me into computers at an early age so I've been downloading shit for longer than some my age have even used a computer.
Did get my PC completely fucked by viruses the first time but it was a learning experience.

>don’t talk about common sense when dealing with warez
The only warez worth downloading is abandonware.

Attached: Paint Shop Pro 6.00 - About.png (640x480, 109K)

>not realising he is a living breathing nip

Gachapon is too addictive. By far my favourite part of being in japan

>Nicotine
What is this? Is it like soulseek?

That’s your fault for not keeping up witn names in the scene that are reputable.

I just hope Russia stays the eternal enemy of the fat yanks and pussy euros because i'm reliant on their sites now for acquiring media - what a time to be alive

>amiga
Grandpa pls go

A free client for a nonfree network.

That fucking takes me back. I always used the shareware version. Hah, shareware...

>I have a Netflix subscription
Netflix sucks not because it's paid but because it's Netflix.

interestingly, I see more and more people identifying as a nazi irl. What they mean is they are against unregulated immigration, but it makes the convo much easier for all parties involved

"We don't host actual files" no longer works legally.

Straight up this guy. Archive.org and myabandonware are supreme websites.

I actually have some warez on discs still. Got version 7 of that.

>tfw zoomers will never experience the eternal comfyness of pirating shit on christmas eve with XCopy Christmas edition

forgot the pic

Attached: xcopyxmas92ger.png (640x400, 20K)

What did the red V mean again? Write protected?

Zoomers will never understand.

Attached: Usenetworldwide.jpg (435x290, 25K)

so did google hacked the justice system? Their search is still serving up pirated content

>zoomers will never experience cracktros

Everyone pirates images and meem videos all the time, even the smartphone users. The social networks are full of that shit.

And well, people are still retarded. EDonkey, WinMX, Napster, Bittorrent and so on needed to be the hot new thing and people would generally just use one client they "were told" to use.

"otaku"
"punk"
"yankee"
"geek"
"redneck"
"nigga"
"deplorable"
etc.

It's an old tactic that often works. Even the use of "-fag" to describe yourself is a reclaimed insult.

There are litrate zooners, it's just again about the same fraction as when people needed to use CLI to use computers and when you needed to configure your modem before it did anything.

ever heard about DMCA?

the red v in the bulb just means you have selected it as target drive

It feels like most people forgot what pirating/torrenting even is.

So? It's unlimited storage. The point is I can watch or play whatever I want whenever the hell I want. If it weren't unlimited storage this woupdn't be the case.

>Every forum these days just says not to do it and to supoort creators.
'Cause they don't wanna get shut down. If it's something like a fan translation project they have a lot to lose and nothing to gain by openly endorsing piracy. Of course, there have been huge anti-piracy moralfag fan translators for a long time, like insani.

true dat

Attached: 18874.png (359x283, 7K)

That is the absolute traffic. What is the percentage?

The only thing I want to pirate is anime mostly because getting physical copies is too expensive and I don't want to support Netflix or crunchyroll.

I don't really pirate music because I just listen to stuff on YouTube. And pirating ebooks doesn't work because there are never torrents for the books I like.

You could do that, or you could learn about virtual machines and Sandboxie, etc. I ran suspicious programs inside a VMWare virtual machine on fucking Windows 98SE.

Psst! You know about WinWorld, right?

Hello, fellow Eastern European.

Good argument, but maybe too general? It might feel empowering to call yourself a Pirate, but at the end it does more bad (helps corporations to make good things like sharing illegal) than good (that lil feel of honour).
