What a unit

Image buying 11 of these 14TB hard drives and putting it inside a Fractal Design R6 case, then buying another 11 to backup data. Then putting a 2080TI EVGA 2.75 slot and AMD's upcoming 32 core threadripper 3 with 128 GB of RAM on all 8 channels.

Attached: 1533725642809.png (1500x1500, 780K)

and filling all that with anime

>on all 8 channel

Sorry, what?

>70068289
Holy shit, no one fucking needs 14TB of storage. No one. What do you need it for?

That's absurdly excessive. 1TB is more than nenough, what are you even storing?

Attached: 1366739081164.jpg (243x367, 9K)

fuck off loser

I can't speak for myself but I imagine its probably anime and porn.

my 3TB porn collection says otherwise in RAID1 that is sir

>1TB is more than nenough
Nigga I got more audiobooks than that, my movie/series folders are something like +10tb

Anime and porn. Are you fucking retarded, or what.

>imagine buying a HDD
is this 2004?

>Image buying 11 of these 14TB hard drives
>then buying another 11 to backup data
And watch them all fail at once, because this is an extremely retarded backup strategy

Porn, all the porn

I hope you have a UPS too. Otherwise, you are wasting your money.

How about gold plating, diamond encrusting and more LED? It sounds like it'd be ideal for your "design".

All right, I'm not against you bying 300TB of SSDs for me, instead of HDDs

what do you need 300tb storage for?

>Seagate Singapore International HQ
>Netherlands Address
wtf

I will store a lot of things. Otherwise, ask OP who's describing a 2x11x14TB setup

>Seagate

Attached: 10744074.jpg (350x456, 26K)

if I was gonna buy that much storage I wouldn't put it in a Define. I had an R4 Blackout that I stuffed ten drives into (eight in the bays, two in a 5.25 adapter) and it had a lot of trouble cooling them. Since this is apparently a money-no-object fantasy, I'd buy some Supermicro 4U rack case with 24 hot-swap bays. 264 TB raw.

I've seen people on the Empornium forums packing like 90 terabytes.

>mfw when I still can't get an Emp invite

I'll get it this year for sure.

Imagine being so much of a data hoarder that tape backups start to make sense to you

Literally nothing wrong

>11 14TB HDDs
>still end up with slower access times and less IOPs than an SD card
There better be a 2TB PCIe SSD somewhere in that system in addition to the HDDs

I feel like you're personally attacking me right now.

How did that have trouble? Were they RAID'ed and all constantly fully running?

>>>/r*ddit/

Why use tape?

RAID6. If they were spun down there was, of course, no problem. But all spun up and active? Yeah, they got pretty warm. What's more I don't think Fractal really meant for you to fill all the bays - the motherboard behind the drives didn't get much airflow with all of them filled, both drives and CPU were rather too warm even with the fans turned all the way up.

Note that if you use ZFS or Btrfs you'll be running regular scrubs, which means that the system will hammer all the drives at once for many hours on end.

If you have over a certain amount of data it gets cost effective to use a tape drive
The tape drive itself is quite expensive but the actual tape you store data on is much cheaper than HDDs

Scene rips of JAV blurays

Cost per GB, reliability, long-term storage

>UPS
>not having your own mini substation

fuck off seagate shill

Makes sense. Yep, you'll get the same result on Raidz. And RAID6 on btrfs - nah?

Try snapraid though.

>let me spend thousands of dollars to pirate shit i will never watch/play
Data hoarders are mentally ill

doesnt the r5 have more 3.5 bays?
why would you want so much storage in a pc with high end cpu and gpu?

id much rather build a freenas box and a seperate hedt/dt.

4K Video editing.
8K (360 Video) editing

t. Linus shill tips

I use 4 brands of HDDs. Now go fuck off you retarded fucking clueless nigger.

>And RAID6 on btrfs - nah?
RAID56 fixes went into 4.12, 4.16, and 4.17. The only thing that's missing is some kind of mitigation for the write hole. (which mdadm was missing too, until a few months ago, actually) You can work around that by using RAID1 for the metadata and RAID5 for the data - if you have a power outage during a write the data being written will be corrupted but you won't damage the filesystem, since RAID1 doesn't have write-hole problems. The drawback to that is that you give up the ability to survive two disk failures - since Btrfs has that retarded idea about RAID1 being exactly two copies instead of N copies.

What's a hard drive?

>buying hard drives when 100TB is being released in 2025
wew

Its less expensive as a hobby/mental illness than taking drugs legal or otherwise

maybe if all you use is .docx and .xlsx you fucking loser.

At what amount of data is it more cost effective?

>Holy shit, no one fucking needs 14TB of storage
[Federal Government music stops playing]

Snapraid makes no sense to me

I can get Raid 6 and Raid z2/3, but don't understand how snapraid works. It says it's best for data that doesn't change much. But how can it repair data that's been lost if all the drives are seperate? IT's confusing

BTRFS and ZFS make sense, but snapraid is weird. Is it proven? Can you really trust it with your data?

>what do you need 300tb storage for?
200tb? youre right, why on earth would anyone need 10tb? 5gb is more than enough, user

I have 8tb on the side
What should i fill it with? I downloaded the entire wikipedia that was less than 1 tb

>That's absurdly excessive. 1TB is more than nenough,
Maybe for boomer fucks like you

>upcoming 32 core threadripper 3
it gonna be 64 cores, user.

>all to shitpost on Jow Forums

Depends on what generation/kind of tape drive you get and your exact use case
If you’re just trying to backup or archive your desktop with a few HDDs then it doesn’t make much sense even if your looking at an older cheaper LTO drive, In this case a NAS would be cheaper and more convenient
If you’re trying to backup/archive a 50tb+ large NAS or data server then tape can make sense especially if you have lots of data that doesn’t need to be accessed a whole bunch and that same data is taking room away for more useful stuff

What does federal government music sound like?

Attached: 1393619872259.jpg (300x299, 25K)

for what reason

I hear they're into russian hardbass these days

I think you mean zoomers.

5gb? 640K is enough for everyone.

How many petabytes of porn are on the internet? Asking for a friend of course.

I'd put 11 of them into raidz3 (8+3). No need for the second set of 11 disks unless you wanted to use them for an off-site mirror backup.

Me too
Get out of my head and ebay wishlist

This
its even better when you get 10g ethernet

Storing Linux ISOs.

don't shit on zoomers desu this dudes just a retarded normal fag. i got like 7tb of pron and animu

SSD has short endurance rate (Fixed 3 to 5 years)
HDD has no endurance rate and can last 10+ years depending on your usage and luck.

Also HDD is cheap as fuck.

Whoops you dropped your hdd and now it’s fucked sorry don’t you wish you had an hdd?

Why you carrying your HDD anywhere ?

Head parked while it was falling. impact didn't exceed limits, and now it's fine.

Also, how about not dropping your 11x14TB NAS machine? There are other expensive parts that can break too, you know. Just put your NAS somewhere safe.

>SSD has short endurance rate (Fixed 3 to 5 years)
Cite your source.

>SSD has short endurance rate (Fixed 3 to 5 years)

imagine believing this shit
just imagine

Serious question here, does it work in ANY computer using SATA or there's such thing as limits? My father refuses to upgrade his PC but is looking for a backup HDD for his shit
Still using IDE for his system and has 2 free SATA ports

> My father refuses to upgrade his PC
> backup
Why not just build him a little 2 drive NAS then? It's a much better option in many ways, you can automate the backup rather than typical pleb always forgetting to do it and then drop and destroy the drive.

And maybe he enjoys also using it as upnp / dlna music server, nextcloud, torrent box or whatever else.

>Serious question here, does it work in ANY computer using SATA or there's such thing as limits?
Most computers don't have the problematic limits - but no, it doesn't work in EVERY computer using SATA.

Thanks but my old man is a fucking technological illiterate. I will do the backups once a month or every time I transfer shit from his phone

For the HDDs question, I use a Mac Pro 2,1. I can use ANY HDD as longit is SATA, right? I want 2x2TB in RAID-1 and will be expensive
I will use it as a retro-emulation machine (GC-Dreamcast mostly) so I need a lot of space for ROMS and ISOs

>Thanks but my old man is a fucking technological illiterate.
Exactly the same thing, use a NAS. Just with no real expectation of him using it for torrents or anything else.

It'll just be the box whose free storage and read-only backups show up on G: or /mnt/space or whatever, and the backup software you let automatically run uploads to the NAS with ftps or ssh. Best solution by far.

> I use a Mac Pro 2,1. I can use ANY HDD as longit is SATA, right?
Maybe it is supporting SATA or USB dock/enclosure attached SATA.

I don't know though. Apple fucked up normal computers in too many ways, it was always a bad surprise whenever I tried dealing with them, and worse with IOS and OSX.

Seagate is the only hard drive I've had that hasn't failed

>not hoarding data AND taking drugs

Attached: 1550055398230.jpg (363x371, 60K)

I archive shit from youtube and some japanese website but aside from that my music it at almost 2TB and anime reaching 5TB

What Japanese website?
Why are you archiving youtube?

You got enough audiobooks to listen to 24/7 for the next 50 years. You won't even live that long.

>seagate

>1x1 backup
> not just using raid6 and making a backup partition

I was surprised how quickly 16TBs comes and goes

My server has:
>4TB anime
> 1TB etc videos
> around 500 gib YouTube
> 2TB JAV
> 15 TB porn streams auto recorded
> 47gib 192kbps opus music
> complete weekly backup of my laptop

> be me
> buy Seagate most failed hard drive from 2012
> be 2019
> running 24/7
> no errors reported to SMART
> running like day 1
Huh

What the fuck

You laugh now but when the Internet is gone or porn is banned I'll be rich on the black market

>You got enough audiobooks to listen to 24/7 for the next 50 years. You won't even live that long.
That can't be possibly right, I am already 1/5 through it all

>Not hoarding drugs and inject data directly to nerve.

Based

Where do you get your audiobooks from user?

I also want to know.

Everyone is doing that. You won't get rich.

>Everyone
Most normalfags keep their files in "the cloud."

Everyone who matters*

>Where do you get your audiobooks from user?
myanonamouse, its invite only but but theres instructions on how to ask for an invite, that, and piratebay

You are missing his point.

There are too many people stockpiling porn for it to have much value once SHTF. Do it for yourself, don't expect to make any money off it.

> too many people stockpiling porn
From the looks of this thread not enough are
