I see no benefits of releasing software under the BSD in comparison with the GPL. I want my software to stay free.

There are situations where the BSD license makes sense.
For example, if you are creating open source addons or plugins for a proprietary software, and don't mind, or would be happy with the owner of said proprietary software incorporating your work.

I am sad to see this referencing the cphack case as a slight against the GPL when that whole thing was blatant FUD and lies.
As expected though, that page apologises for and even encourages the behavior of proprietary companies, while saying nothing about actual issues facing open source projects such as patent threats. FreeBSD also is a failure at promoting the use of BSD licenses as Apple has demonstrated its weakness by taking the whole OS and profiting massively from locking it down and turning it into a walled garden. The only competitor that has a chance to catch up is ironically the big Linux vendors, which probably never will because trying to reimplement all of Cocoa is a fool's errand. Unless I missed something and somebody added all those iOS APIs to GNUstep recently.
