I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

stfu
it's good, kde looks cool, is consistent and just werks

way better than win$hit, ur not constantly getting spied on by CIA glowing niggers

So, what do you need to know? You should know you can try GNU/Linux from a live USB, without touching your existing OS. This solution is slow, since it's reading an entire OS from USB, which is slow, but enables you to give it a try risk free.

i dual booted kde plasma with win 7 for a bit before i ran into some problems, so i know i can try it but im looking for any particular reason to actually make the switch from windows. as in, is it worth investing the time to get accustomed to a new os

the reason I switched to linux was because i was tired of bloat, forced updates, viruses, freezes, etc. also, this was when i started to program and found the linux ecosystem to be much more coherent.

Neck yourself my dude

It all really depends on what do you want to do with your computer. For example, if your job depends on Adobe software and you can't use any alternatives then you're going to have a bad time. Your post is really vague and it makes me believe you want me to be your personal salesman because you want to feel 1337 by using Linux.

you do, but the sensation wears off after some time.

Maybe, but that enough isn't a reason to switch. People who switch to feel 1337 come here after a week sobbing and blaming "freetards" because Fortnite isn't easy to install on GNU/Linux.

op here. im not looking to game on my laptop, ill just use it for uni stuff. i am looking to learn how to code, especially with arduino stuff so ive been told to learn c++, and i was wondering if maybe switching from windows has any benefit to it.
thanks for the input my dude, as i said im looking to start to program aswell

Everything relating to programming especially C and C++ usually are made Unix (and GNU/Linux) first and afterwards get ported to Windows.

install WSL

I genuinely had more than just a couple of chuckles. Well done my friend who certainly has no relationship to Mr. Lennart "glowinthedark" Pöttering

Linux is the kernel commonly used with the GNU operating system.
Hope that clears things up for you.

I'd rather have a homeless fat ugly man penetrate my 14 year old virgin daughters ass.

> I'm eating beans
> try rotten sѹ beans
Much better, thanks.
