e.g. the gorillions of variations of mpeg format for videos and audio, if my memory does not fail me, it could play a 360p video perfectly, but that isn't enough, let's introduce rmvb right? ok now about text, we had rtf, then microsoft pushed for doc format which seemed fairly stable but would not render in fucking msdos, so i had to upgrade to windows 95 to view those files. then office 2003 comes and it introduces enough changes in the file format to render it unreadable by office 95/97, so again i had to upgrade my windows to xp (or was it millennium? i don't remember). and so on and so forth, leading to the current bloat we are witnessing, we just keep on creating new retarded formats to do exactly the same thing, this is everywhere.

avi was good for uncompressed video, mpeg was pretty good for compressed video, bmp was good for uncompressed images, jpeg is still good for compressed images, nothing can match rtf because it supports all kinds of images and audio(?) video(?) inside said file, i would argue that it could beat html since we already had word processors to handle layout for pages. interaction already happened in usenet, but that was a retarded protocol that was easily emulated by mailing lists, irc is also retarded unless you want your ip exposed for whatever purpose. html is also retarded, rtf can handle everything it does already. forms are stupid, so stupid that corporations still exchange their own forms written in pdf or an internal software covering their own needs.

I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.

There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.

all of them were written for windows, not dos, so that was fairly pointless because i would have to keep a machine running windows, and desktops weren't easily accessible until mid 00s.
