By creating a solid disaster recovery plan.

I don't have to, because backups are cheap to make.

What are backups

i don't care if i lose shit

>Jow Forums
>data
Just go to /b/ and start a reation faces thread.
You may need to download and post a few yourself to prime the pump.

Always have backups of anything vital. Always. Even if that means you have to spend $1000+ on HDDs every five years.

t. owner of 32TBs of HDDs

>those rare songs I downloaded from the single user on Napster who had them in 2000 that were never mentioned on the internet again

I still have them

Attached: lettuce.jpg (640x640, 79K)

I don't because all of my data is in the cloud protected by qualified engineers who do their best to make sure I don't lose it.

>join what.cd
>realize the collection you spent years hoarding is just a squirt of piss in the ocean of music of that same genre

I accept data loss. Everything must die one day.

good goy

Feel unreal and disoriented for a while, then start working on a foolproof backup system

lost 1.5tb of porn a few days ago. fuck seagate, at least all my WD drives have given me some sort of warning sign before they outright fail

>join what.cd
>doesn't have most of my esoteric collection
>be disappoint
>bitch about it on Jow Forumstrackers

i did this

kek

I had three of those 1.5TB low-power drives, they all failed within a month from each other. Two of them died less than 24 hours apart. Literally all of my 5 Seagate have died, whereas the Hitachi drive from 2003 still works, and all of the WD drives from two to ten years ago still work as well.

At this point I'd rather store my data on chinkshit usb sticks than spend a single dollar on a Seagate.

>lost 1.5tb of porn a few days ago. fuck seagate
I'd want to die too if my purpose in life was holding someone else's porn.

>what.cd has been gone for two years
Wow, I'm way out of the loop.

This is you

I only keep stuff now that I've personally ripped or created from whatever source material to reduce the amount of data I need to preserve. I'm only concentrating on material that's harder to find in higher quality (True Lies in HD for example).

>vital
>32tb
Mind if I ask what you find "vital" that doesnt fit on like a 500gb hdd?

Better than not having them
This except RED and soulseek.

>favorite shows and movies in 1080p
The Sopranos alone is is 350GBs.
>now-irreplaceable collections of albums (see )
>various data dumps
And if you read that post properly, you understand I have

Try Soulseek for esoteric music. Lots of hard to find stuff on there.

I just keep my shit in the cloud cause im not a pedophile who is spooked about muh privacy

4K camcorder videos are pretty big, dude.

>artist
>follow and keep up with artists I admire
>only way I do that is by keeping their online handles in a Google Doc file because I don't want to hoard
>try going through some of the older ones one day
>all of them deleted their blogs and nuked everything they had from the internet
>try going through the newer ones
>most of them on Tumblr
>also deleted their blogs or got nuked by the recent Tumblr witch hunt

this
i fell for the meme and got an account on what.cd i've uploaded like 50GB of lossless music that they didn't have. downloaded less than 3GB of what i was looking for (skipped RED for that redtarded interview that someone posted)
meanwhile soulseek gives me a new thing at least every two weeks. now if only all that slsk patrician circlejerk would be hacked and then removed, that'd be fantastic

i have 0.6 gigabit internet so i dont even notice
takes me a few minutes to download anything i want

I'm genuinely sorry dude. Sad to hear but at least you learned something for next time.

If you're not an NPC with NPC tastes, no excessive bandwidth will help you.

t. gigabit line

sorry i dont understand ur sentence has too many double negatives

You know you're winner in life when your comeback consists of nothing but pointing out the technically incorrect grammar of colloquialisms.

Attached: logo.png (584x251, 21K)

no i really read your comment 5 times and i dont understand
my .6 gigabit is more than enough for me, i formatted my pc recently but i saved my 6tb

Not as bad as losing a Bitcoin wallet worth a few grand.

come on u can backup bitcoin walllets

Unless you have shitty taste that can be fulfilled by Netflix, your gorillionbit line will be useless, since things worth having are rarely publicly available 24/7.

like what?

I'm a grown man in my thirties, mate, you're not getting me into a fuckin pissin' contest.

>he doesn't download the entire internet

anime?

I fucked up. I had mined quite a few bitcoins on my gaming laptop in 2009. One day I dropped it and the drive died. I didn't care much about the coins because they had no value. Tossed the drive and bought new drive. Years later started hearing about rise in bitcoin price and realize my lost 20 bitcoin was worth north of $300k.

Yeah it hurts. At least I made a few grand off the Ethereum climb. I'm currently hoarding Monero.

i cant think of anything that isnt publicly available 24/7 mate

That is no different from saying
>if it's not at our local library, it doesn't exist
how does it feel to genuinely believe you're free while living inside (((google))) search results?

back your shit up to BD-Rs and have 2 copies of a HDD

>copying terabytes of data onto BDR's
Have you ever tried retrieving those copies?

i dont use anything related to google anymore so i dont know

and you have still yet mentioned a single file thats "rare" u dumb nigger

try M-Discs

Data is never lost. Do you know what PAC stands for?

Attached: DxAlEzcX0AQh1LT.jpg (499x524, 28K)

>you still haven't mentioned a single way to identify yourself
Glowing. Absolutely glowing.

More data

autism is strong in this one

I just moved on and learned to back up. Multiple times on different partitions and drives.

this was pretty neat actually, but it needed to be 2 hrs longer.

and not include netflix branding lol, that part had me laughing my ass off

OP is a fag

The truly vital things fit inside diskettes.

I keep Quad backups of my vital data. Two use Raid Z (1),(2). Another uses Raid-5. Last one is a external drive. All 4 keep the exact same data.
My media server uses ReFs and Raid 1 and 5 volumes. Everything vital is ran from a UPS.

Was it 500 bitcoins you bought in 2011 and forgot about so you just throw the drive away motherfucker?

Like what?

buddhism

All things die, just like your dreams and goals, so there is no way to stop this from happening whatsoever.
At least the only positive thing that comes from this is that you enjoyed getting and saving all those huge anime tits that you wished to suck on them if they were real.
However, if you lost a rare file that doesn't have any seeders then it sucks to be you, frog.

If only you knew how bad things are in Twitter.

Attached: monkman.png (613x614, 728K)

This
the 3 autists who have seeds are gonna have 100kbit up like i do

>ReFS
literally who

I fuckin hated it
Lost a lot of photos and other irreplaceable stuff

That was years ago though, I've kept backups for a long time now

i store it on the cloud :)

this. i share my smol but humble library there, too.

why do think people data hoard

This.
Ive got a bunch of pirated movies/ series/ games/ programs but if I lose them Ill just download stuff I need again.

My truly important data are a few hundred documents/ scans (mostly university/ healthcare/ work related) that I have encrypted on a bunch of USB sticks (one sitting in each of my grandparents homes) and on my Mega account, total size is well below 4gb.

Because thay are disgusting by default.
