In how many ways can you design a sheet paper? It's has nothing to design besides the color.

Enter your tv. Enter your monitor. Enter your phone. Enter your tablet.

It's all the fucking same because everything is so minimalized there's nothing to design.

Now, I get it, not all the bulky stuff is great. But you can't deny it has at least a unique asthetic.

>Mfw just had nostalgia hit me

Man, I miss times around 2005 when I was 10 and playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, while MTV was banging out BAMs show and jackasses were alive.
All of the kids in our school started to skate in local park and we would always just come home from school, throw the backpacks away and went out to skate and cause shit. Older guys would always try to imitate steve-o by throwing themselves into bushes and doing stupid things to each other while laughing their asses off.

Where did this youth go, now I drive by the same park everyday and it's empty, rarely any kids there ;_;. Man 2004-2008 were special times for a 10-13 year old kid, youtube, runescape, massenger, myspace or causing shit outside aorund the town with every other kid in the town.

its not that it was aesthetic, its that as the average age group on Jow Forums, its the tech you grew up with or was around when you were younger and youre nostalgic over it

for me its because the last time I ever felt happy was the early 2000's, so early 2000's technology brings that back a little bit and looking at it makes me happy
that's depressing

but really unless you had the ultra high end of all ultra high stuff circa 2001-2005, most regular tech was pretty plain
pic related, socket 478 machine with an OCZ eliminator2 TMD cooler, ultra x-connect modular psu from 2002, ECS photon from 2004, corsair led 400mhz ddr from the same era
I like looking at it, but its not what everyone was using, these days its cheap but back then this would've been your autistic RGBtard tier of pc

why are you nostalgia cucks so pathetic

Because we know what we lost

Because they're designed to be closer to appliances than toys

SO HERE I AM, DOING EVERYTHING I CAN

>TMD cooler
I remember mine on an Athlon XP. Designed to be quieter but in practice still so loud and offering no practical benefits.

>ultra x-connect modular psu
I have one of these three feet away from me right now but it was c.2008 for use with an A64-X2. People forget Ultra was the innovator of Flexforce cabling, aka what every modular PSU uses now that isn't braided.

you couldn't imaging what it was like in like 90-92 in my town. we had no skateparks, so that meant there was like 30-50 kids out roaming town just fucking detroying any halfway skateable spot. we were out of control for real. kids these days are too domesticated / anesthisized for any of that shit.

>E.ncinitas S.kate P.osse 4 lyfe

He got sober and started doing a tour telling stories and stuff, then was a guest on the cum town podcast, then his life fell apart again.

because you live in a permanent state of nostalgia of an age you were happy without the responsibilities you assumed (or not) as an adult.

Let it go, user.

We grew up, user.

TAKE ME HOOOME

Most tech goes through this kind of evolution towards similarity in form and function, it happened with guns, agriculture, transport and it happened to computing

I think the 90's/early 2000's tech aesthetic is so alluring because its not utterly disconnected to the stuff we see everyday around us but its missing all the smoothing and polishing and quality of life improvements that modern equipment benefits from, a modern high end computer is a featureless looking box with a single cable going up to a flat rectangle with bezels so thin you can barely see them, need to load your work load onto the machine to process it? it arrived overnight into the shared server, or you can download it from your external hardrive as one chunk in a few minutes

Contrast that to an early/mid 90's work station, you have 10 different kind of ports for your 2 huge monitors with square displays, your keyboard that also functions as a blunt force trauma weapon should you need it, your bulky as fuck mouse, and your graphics tablet or other specialist input device

It brings you back to when you could tell what a machine was for by the kind of I/O it has and when computers weren't so seemlessly integrated into modern life, when they were still a little bit removed from the normal flow of life and they seemed better for it

You are just a clueless zoomer trying to appear edgy.
It was shit.

He's doing this.
youtube.com/watch?v=SqpWkW0NXtw

What case tho

this. everything was fucking beige and boxy. people bemoaned lack of case choices. custom modding was a thing where you'd drill your own fan holes, case windows, paint the case, etc. You'd have to buy RGB lighting separately and wire everything. Now there's a million options in multiple colors with everything pre-installed and 50 fucking fan holes.

Rgb is fucking gay and always will be and I don't even like the old beige shot.

That's not my point. The point is there are way more options today, whereas before you had to customize it yourself, so the whole subject of this post is a fallacy. OP just likes big boxy shit thanks to obsolete technology.

kids don't go outside anymore
I mean to be fair the market for almost every product has increasingly become more consumer oriented and less enthusiast oriented although there are more option design trends tend to be garbage.

It's unique but not good

Its almost like nostalgia and aesthetic preference is irrational with no grounding in reality

No one at the time thought that was aesthetically pleasing you stupid kid.

Yea. He was very early with digital video editing and such. He edited all the Landspeed: CKY stunt videos, CKYs music videos a some of HIMs music videos. He had a big room set up with all sorts of computers and equipment

How is it nostalgia if people didn't like it back then? More like amnesia.

look at your own picture. those devices are disgusting. if you think that ugly grey boxes are cool, you don't have style and taste. every sane person wants to smash this shit with crowbar

Computer were more about "doing work" vs the oh look at me I'm pretty with flashing lights and you can all gawk at my insides that is common now. No one gives a shit about the most important thing now; what's on the screen (game, porn, work, etc).

Look at software bloat. More about "oh look at me" v.s the "let's work" as Win 9x/2k was. Could they re make Windows 2k to take modern hardware, sure they could. But no one wants to do it. Ironically such a thing would be slimmer and use less drive space which is what Windows Ten does via the enabled compression of it's files. My cases are plain jane boxes. All I care about is that it's got enough bays/expansion slots/cooling fans for my needs. Cause they sit on the floor out of sight out of mind.

Keep on Zoomin'

JUST

These were the days when WE owned and commanded the technology and still owned our reality as well.

Now the tech owns us down to biological levels and commands us using dopamine reward systems.

Going outside has a risk/reward pattern that’s really natural and leads to positive growth.

Now there are rewards with no risks through gaming and social media. Kids today will never know what an analog childhood did for confidence.

More like a recall to a time where control was centered on individual action instead of collective approval or curated experience.

This.

We used it because it was just a fucking machine. That’s why it could be bland...we didn’t walk around with them and show them off as classist status symbols.

The other problem is we live in a police state. My dad tells me all sorts of shit he did as a kid that he got a slap on the wrist for that you'd go to jail for today. You aren't allowed to be a kid anymore with this zeor tolerance shit.

The overreach of policing and surveillance is rooted in the older generation’s lack of confidence. They sacrificed liberty for safety and made the current crop of onions live in their Orwellian padded room.

It's really not aesthetic. Probably the most aesthetic computers to date are those room sized 60s ones with the oscilloscopes and all.

The 90s beige/white aesthetic was awful because it aged so goddamned poorly. In no time at all you would have yellowed sun bleached plastics. The CRT iMac was a bit better in terms of CRT aesthetics because rhr case showed off the internals and importantly didn't yellow in no time at all.

Don't confuse nostalgia with aesthetics. I miss it too. However even at the time I knew the shit was ugly. Now its just mostly boring.

Heart/soul is a delusional euphemism for nostalgia. 20 years later you'll see people say the same about current designs.

They are.

1 (You) collected from someone who doesn't care, that'll do

jesus. when is he just going to OD already? would have been better if he'd died young.

there were no "instagram influencers" in my day. that alone makes it 100x more valuable than anything going on at this time in history.

Kids still skate, user. Just not in your neighbourhood anymore since crime went up probably

Now that they finally remodeled the only skate park in my area with cement ramps and quarter pipes I'm thinking about getting back into skating. I sucked at it when I was 12 and was too much of a pussy to drop down a quarter pipe after 2 failed attempts but at least I still know how to ride, manual, kickturn, and ollie. But now doing a few ollies kills my ankles so I really need to get myself Jow Forums.

Well back then it was all bland biege or egg shell whites or yellowed plastic

>THAT SCAM BOSE RADIO
OH NO NONONONO

No, black was also a color choice for almost everything you see in the pic. Black was even considered an "old" color for CRT TVs by 2000, compared to silver.

that a Wave? 30 years of selling $20 radios for the equivalent of a $1k a pop. PT Barnum would fucking blush

Remember when cops would confiscate skateboards ? Good times.

I remember when cops would snap your skateboard in half and dare you to say something

We will never have comedy like this again

You forgot web2.0

If you consult your thinkpad different shade of blue book. You would known that European legislation in the 1970s said that office equipment must be light mused colours. The first office equipment piece to be black was the thinkpad it was initially banned in Germany but then it actually came with a warning that it was not for office use in Germany. The more you know.

Beige was never an aesthetic, it was just dictated by some European laws that their lowly workers couldn't take fun. The rest of the market followed suit. End.

It's so crazy that the web still hasn't updated to 3.0

AJAX was such hot buzzword.

i found a Daewoo 4:3 15" tft screen (similar to the picture) in the garbage and it display only 7 lines less than my 23" LG 16:9
What a shamble. it also fits a human head and eyes view completely and not a chink eyes only.
Which makes me think, 16:9 must be some sort of chinks revenge against the west for laughing at their eyes.

>not pwning n00bs with the trackpad

The bondi blue iMac G3 ushered in a strange aesthetic that lasted just a few years but served to bridge beigeworld and blackworld.

Vertical resolution was shot to shit in the move to 16:9. In 2000 I was using 1600x1200 resolution on cheap CRTs and mid-range laptops. These days, yeah 1440 and "4K" monitors exist, but the standard resolutions from low end to mid-range are 1366x768, 1600x900, and 1920x1080. Even 19201200 is dead. This aspect of technology moved backwards just to make everything wider, while everything else blasted forward even at the low end.

fuck boomers. i use 4k ultra thin display
