I love xfce. It's lightweight, simple and modular. You can easily replace any of its components, which makes it very Unix-y.
But WHY CAN'T THEY FUCKING FIX THE SCREEN TEARING? They have -allegedly- added an option in the window manager's setting editor to fix it. But, while it has been reduced considerably, the screen tearing is still there. It's not too hard. Gnome does not have it. KDE does not have it. Why do they?
because it's free software and philosophy comes before usability. Also no one really cares about ui looks/performance on Linux. It's not a company selling a spiffy product. That's why every thing is customizable so you can do this shit yourself.

Eh I just stopped caring since it was so good everywhere else.

Who cares?
You can say the same thing about Windows 3.1 and it offers about the same.

This is not about having a fancy UI, though. I don't care about that, since it is irrelevant to the quality of a project. But not being able to watch a video by default without screen tearing has little to do with "looks", it's basic usability.

LXDE is better.

I haven't had screen tearing on kde for a long time. How old is your computer?

Windowmaker is the best WM anyone who thinks otherwise hasn’t used it.
