Can anyone explain why Jow Forums is obsessed with WinRAR when 7-Zip works as well and is totally free?
Can anyone explain why Jow Forums is obsessed with WinRAR when 7-Zip works as well and is totally free?
>words to avoid
>for free
nice try janny
i remember when 7zip is faster than winrar and supports more file types but winzip is better than both
buuut 7zip used to be better than winzip
What's the issue? 7-Zip is LGPL.
i will have to give winzip a try
>winzip is better
>WinZip is a trialware file archiver and compressor for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android developed by WinZip Computing.
H games are often distributed via multi part rar, which is better supported by winrar.
i've downloaded a couple of archives with the .7z extension that 7-zip couldn't open. winrar could.

7ZIP IS LITERALLY LICENSED UNDER LGPL YOU STUPID FUCKING NIGGER MONKEY AAHHHH AAAAHHHHHHHHH
i wouldnt trust a freetard software for archiving
its okay to use freetard software on mundane shit like renaming my doujinshi library or hentai collection
I recommend PeaZIP over 7-Zip if the PC is going to be used by tech illiterate people. It has an easier to use GUI.
>LICENSED
= not free
I have Winrar installed since ages and have never used the programs open window itself. To be honest, i don't even know what it looks like, because i only use WinRar with the right click menu.
Opening Winrar isn't needed at all.
7-zip is the ideal case scenario for an open source program.
5% GUI you can copy from other programs, 95% fun optimization autism.
>i don't even know what it looks like,
It shows a pop-up asking you to buy a WinRAR license.
fuck i broke the rule of not replying to obvious bait posters
tried it by double clicking on a .rar file for the first time in my entire life and no, i haven't seen such a popup. but the programs window looks decent.
Nothing i would consider not handable.
not trialware on windows
Few things, you can encode the zip in images and it opens up on WinRAR easier due to error correction.
2nd it's just works and better multi part rar reading
just use lz4 for better speed and zstd for better compression
not better either
7zip still doesn't have Options> Name Encoding >
7zip also still can't make .rar files.
WinRAR has an objectively faster right click menu.
I prefer to use 7zip, but there are just some things 7zip can't handle. Most normies use rar, and send, want to receive .rar files. Send them a .7zip file and their like WTF is this, send them a .zip file and they're like "lol grandpa, everyone uses .rar and not zip these days."
Now, WinZip, haven't had that installed since like my Windows 98 SE or ME days...
in defense of winzip, it supports more file types for reading
I just use it because it's already built into windows explorer
>more
> 1
funny
>ARC file format
never heard of it.
it also has 1 more feature than than 7zip (file repairing)
I want to know the sauce on I can't find these benchmarks
Liar
file:///home/user/Downloads/p7zip/DOC/MANUAL/general/formats.htm
usually
/usr/share/doc/p7zip/
not sure if 7z doesn't have file repair
Jow Forums is retarded
PeaZip is better than both.
you would like PeeZip wouldn't you, you little homo
You know when you install 7-Zip you can integrate it into the shell right?
HA HA
MY PEENUS WEENIS OF COURSE!
MY PEEZIP WEEEINZIP OFCOURSE
k, downloading 7zip right now
do linux users even use 7zip? they have gzip and other stuff don't they?
why are you posting 15 year old benchmarks
i don't know how you want me to answer
how do i know what people do? distros don't but i don't see why users won't use 7z since winrar is a proprietary windows thing
plus it's super comfy to extract with it as it supports all free types, i can just do 7z x any.thing
post recent ones
Winrar has the best encryption
