My group of friends (around 20) from uni who started with me ~10 years ago are pretty much normies right now, me included. Most work as programmers and some have kids. We still frequently drink together, play board games and vidya, bitch about work on IRC, stuff like that. Most agree that this industry fucking sucks but it pays the bills and in reality we have it better than a lot of other people of our age.
There were a lot of real weirdos starting the school with us but normal people tend to find other normal people to hang out with.
Right now there are worse choices to make in your life than take up computer science. If you don't have anything else going on, do it. At least you'll end up learning a profession if you take programming seriously.
