they are good

Does anyone know the proper protocol to buying one? Do you really need to use bitcoin and annoymous payment methods? How do we know that these 'logless' VPNs don't just share a the username registry with authorities and secret injunctions are issued to keep logs with every user? etc?

>entrusting all your data to a 3rd party

they are bad

Most of the more popular ones are just honeypots, which you'll find out real quick if shit ever hit the fan.

I SHIGGY DIGGITY

This is my automatic presumption, but I live in Australia, where they keep logs of every website I visit (more intrusive than America) for up to 3 years mandatory by regulations. VPN would just be one extra stepping stone for authorities to cross and to be honest, may do more harm than good if they VPN authority is under some other-jurisdiction where they must report certain websearches or URLs so it may do me more harm than good to let potentially two parties know about my activities than one.

Well, I am an attorney involved in information technology it isn't a big surprise that a major corporation will bend over to a court order, if they say they are logless but they keep logs you won't know unless you're arrested, but of course, it's too late then..... but is there any stories of those VPNs revealing information?

I'd even accept anecdotal/personal stories, like if any one here has used a VPN and they know they keep logs personally

I stopped caring about Jow Forums since I graduated but now that my country is ramping up censorship I better brush up

Bump

also bumping

Use tor it's free and safer than (((vpn)))

Only issue I have with Tor is that its fucking slow.

You've horrified me

>2019
>Not hosting your own VPN.

wow.

Hardly any VPN providers have their own servers. How can you be sure that the company which actually owns the servers doesn't monitor and log the traffic?

>he doesn't run his own vpn

only VPNs hosted by you are to be trusted, rest is botnet who will happily pass your data to the authorities

>only VPNs hosted by you are to be trusted
well guess anonymity is officially dead.

fkn faggots, keep reading this, but, never any howto. Let us help our koala-infested friends (as also personally interested):
1. rent a VPS (aka a server) - WITH IP - and Linux / root privilege / yadda - cost ca $10 p/m?
2. ??? wutdo, install/config wut?
3. Profit!
- but wouldn't this all then run under the IP rented in your own name, or, rent server under faekname, or dont matter as you can delete own logs, or wut? TIA

I'm deciding if I should get NordVPN. Is it any good? Other one I am looking at is ProtonVPN

Just cause your ISP can no longer see your browsing data doesn't mean it isn't being data-mined by your VPN provider. Also, VPN providers do comply with legal requests on the quiet. They do not want to be banned from operating in particular countries.

It's a troll.

>get NordVPN
>can't post on Jow Forums because IP is suspicious
>can't change passwords for work
>have to solve multiple captchas everywhere

Someone help. How do I get Nord to not just be a faster Tor Browser?

You can buy VPS's from people with reseller accounts at the bigger hosts. A lot take cryptocurrency and don't verify your identity as long as the payment clears.

so, renting a VPS via whoever (shadier, the better), installing (w/e - VPN soft?), routing your own shit through that, then deleting your own server logs.. its a (theoretical) goer? Genuine curious, not my area

Mullvad can be paid by cash in the mail probably the most untraceable, also some take giftcards.. I paid with PayPal before because I just use them for torrents nothing majorly shady

There are still going to be anonymisation issues as your ip will most likely be logged and your connection via ssh to set up and vpn will be seen on many intermediary network's netflow logs.

WTF, you write like you have brain damage. Try OpenVPN Docker images if there are any, probably the only thing you will be able to set up.

they're good for a specific purpose. avoiding a state entity? No dummy, thats retarded, enough money and you can get anyone on the net. That said theyre good for keeping your isp/ad agencies from seeing what you watch on pornhub and avoiding letters in the mail for torrenting.

The internet was never anonymous in the first place. The most you can get is pseudonomynous.

Or use this script on a throwaway vps:

github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install

Don't worry goyim, we wi- I mean they will keep you safe.

Who made bitcoin?

use a vps/seedbox for torrents,
and tor for private browsing.
vpns are expensive and compomised, nearly all of them keep logs, and represent yet another third party that could potentially be monitoring all your traffic.
if you absolutely must shitpost, buy a pass.

last time i tried it it was nearly as fast as my normal connection.

GoogleVPN is the best. Free too

I get a month subscription every other few months to download some movies and series. I know its more expensive,m but usually the month subscriptions are always good speed-wise.

Just buy from baltic bros

My ISP has already proven they can't be trusted with my data. I might as well try someone else.

FacebookVPN is even better.

Wait. I typed this is as a joke. But then I looked it up and holy fuck it's real.

Facebook VPN is a real thing lol what the fuck

Assume the VPN is malicious, act accordingly, and you'll be gucci.

Why was this not discussed here?

Shadman strikes again

Buy a Jow Forums pass. Quit.
But seriously VPNs are extremely limited. For getting around government limitations often GoodbyeDPI is enough here but for work I use a VPN. Just have to shut it off when I need to get around it. Sucks but there's nothing else I can do.

I did.

>based satooshi
you forgot your wallet password, didn't you. Admit it.

Probably better for a /sqt/ but, is there a way to completely secure my browsing data? Like using a third party dns so my ISP is mostly kept in the dark, and running my own vpn? Or am I really just moving it all to the hands of the DNS provider? I feel like there's got to be a way to encrypt my traffic in some way so that nobody but me really knows what sites I'm visiting.

Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate

Practically every major website uses SSL for everything and a VPN isn't necessary anymore unless you host movie downloads. In which case they'll sell you out on request even faster than your ISP would.

This, how much does my ISP know if use third party DNS and HTTPS everywhere?

Get a vpn provider which isn't located in the 14 eyes, buy it with cash of crypto currency, better than your ISP.
