UEFI updates in Linux

>get Window$ laptop
>install Ubuntu and use it exclusively

Is there such a thing as UEFI updates?

Are users expected to do it or Windows does it?

Is Ubuntu just basically slow death by botnet

>using UEFI at all
Just use BIOS+GPT

fwupd. Included per default in a proper distro like Fedora.
Imagine not having Secure Boot

>fwupd. Included per default in a proper distro like Fedora.
Ubuntu has it too
>Version: 1.0.6-2

Does it do all the necessary shit?

why do you need secure boot?

Passwordless LUKS with TPM

>(((secure))) boot
good goyim

enjoy your evil maid just because you can't use a brain

What's the problem, sperg? Scared of being safe from SmartJamal's rootkits? Scared of having a perfectly secure system?

>implying UEFI isn't a rootkit that can have rootkits
UEFI is 100% proprietary. There are no standards for writing UEFI firmware or applications. UEFI has its own kernel and drivers that run underneath your OS.

literally how
>hurr if i use CSM BIOS I'm not exposed to the same botnet
might as well make use of its features
also
>what is tianocore

Fuck CSM. Just don't use UEFI at all. Install Coreboot or Trannyboot. The attack surface of BIOS is far less than that of UEFI is the point.

>coreboot
>now has uefi support with tianocore
fucking exactly. and then set up secure boot.

>proven categorically wrong

Does fwupd do it automatically or the user has to do shit?

Imagine having to use a bootloader

This post made by efistub gang

>fwupd
Why would I need to run that daemon? Isn't updating your Bios/Uefi manually once in a while sufficient?

Well you could always just enable legacy boot if there is an option to do that in your bios

Why did it take so long for this response?

Because it's proven retarded also not related to the original topic

Because im partly brain dead

You do not have to set up TianoCore with Coreboot. Use SeaBIOS. TianoCore is a free implementation of UEFI, but it does not include the proprietary blobs required to run other UEFI applications.

What if I want UEFI though?

This.

You need UEFI if you want your shit to run properly, no?

>Tianocore
That's for Kaby Lake and some other irrelevant hardware only, right?

bump

No. Why would this be the case?

To have the underlying firmware running your system properly?

You don't need UEFI to boot an OS

for hardware to work

>actually using UEFI botnet
fuck outta my Jow Forums

>botnet
Proven wrong you ukrainian cunt

lol enjoy your botnet, fucko

If you can install Coreboot or Libreboot you would use that as an alternative to the proprietary UEFI firmware

>muh uefi updates
for what reason
as you don't change the hardware for newer there's no point
>but muh security
that's the job of the OS, not BIOS

there are probably images you can dd to a flash drive and update bios that way, but as stated before, why would you

Go to the manufacturers support website for you laptop and see if they have a non-windows way to do firmware updates. Hp does but I just did the windows one because its better.

nice talk everyone drinks are on me

Intel released a thing to check UEFI for viruses and hacks.

Can Linuxfags even use that?

bump

Yes

>this kills the linux
