maybe when the economy isn't a total dumpsterfire

if you actually had to use them irl you wouldn't say this. a pdf is much more convenient and less of a pain in the ass + it keeps hippies at bay.

What did he mean by this

whatis man

Unix killed the computer manuals.
Man pages are just for quick reference from a time when calling up the developer was viable because the circles were that small and 'the source is the documentation the computer uses' is completely braindead.
At least on the GNU system you sometimes get proper documentation in info pages.

It's just for quick reference and reminder. Info is where actual documentation lives.

it means that you won't cut trees for the manual's pages, you retard

Samsung still ships huge ass manuals for their industrial machinery

And they're delightfully full of pixel art

go read some man pages and documentation for solaris before you go touting gnu as anything but shit

Absolutely comfy.

They also give you useful handbooks

And all the technical schemes

Go read some Symbolics Genera documentation before you go touting anything unix-related as anything but shit.

wtf are you taking about economic in the usa is the best it's been in decades

both are great, but physical material is much better for general reference purposes and also is just a nice touch in general
this is the funniest post i’ve read today but probably not in the way you intended

OP needs more cocks in his ass

Based. Unix is shit.

Are you the Multics nigger from cripplechan?
If so, please spread your knowledge here. You are needed.

I snagged an IBM BASIC 3.0 Reference manual when they were cleaning shit out of the ThinkPad office in Morrisville, and it's my favorite desk ornament. They junked a lot of stuff in that move that imo should have gone in an archive (or a storage unit of mine).
Lots of model M keyboards, reference manuals, and other IBM memorabilia was getting shitcanned like the poor greybeards that broke them in. I only managed to get a few IBM branded manuals, binders, toolboxes etc. because all of the actual hardware was carefully scrapped. First gen Xeons, OS/2 disks, etc.

I actually bought a copy of FreeBSD 4.0 back in 2000. It came with a great manual that went through everything from the initial install to scripting and a load of other shit. I used it as a reference for years.

pic related: the boxed copy I bought.

While I agree it's easier to Ctrl+F in a PDF, I also love the aesthetic of a real printed manual far more. It's nice being able to have a book on your shelf to reference or read for fun in times of no internet.

This is actually really nice. I wonder who is living the dream job of making industrial grade pixel art all day.

>2018

I'm jealous. I'd pay for a printed version of common Linux man pages, if they were nicely bound.

>2018

You know you can print them, right?
