What web browser do you normally use when viewing a webm?
Use that one, but on mac OS.
I use Firefox.

WebM/VP8 is shit. Use MP4/H.264 instead.

In a web browser, or just generally on your computer?
For web browser, see thisFor just on your computer away from the internet, IINA is the standard video player for mac OS. I'd rate it up there with mpv.

Every new computer on the market can open a webm fresh out of the box.. except iToddlerOS

Why does Apple not natively support webm? Is it an inferior format or what?

So do you browse Jow Forums "fresh out of the box" using Internet Explorer, or do you install Chrome?
Serious question

On a new Windows machine, you can open it up, go to Jow Forums with Edge, and start watching webms no prob. I don't actually use Edge myself though, but it's there.

Safari on the other hand shits the bed without a plugin when trying to view a webm

Wrong question. webm format natively runs on the mac OS operating system. Support for it isn't included in the Safari web browser. Apple is not allowed to include support for it in Safari because of licensing reasons. Other than that, it works fine.

You're complaining about the mac equivalent of Internet Explorer not being adequate, all the while admitting that the Windows Internet Explorer isn't adequate for you and you had to install a different browser...

Apple Default Web Browser: Can't play .webm
Microsoft Default Web Browser: Can't browse the internet

hmmmmmmmmm

> and you had to install
That's good and all, but Edge is the new IE and IE is the legacy IE.

nice try, but WordPad comes with Wangblows and opens most word documents just fine.

If you buy computers based on whether or not they can open a webm "out of the box" or even think that this is any sort of meaningful indicator, then you are so fucking retarded, you shouldn't have access to a computer in the first place.

So you can't view webms in the default web browser, picky picky picky.
Does anyone even use the default Windows web browser for anything other than installing Chrome or Firefox? What about Linux, does that even have a "default" web browser?

>mac equivalent of Internet Explorer
except for webms it's fine

I wouldn't know, I haven't use Safari for anything besides except installing a new web browser ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edge is included with Windows 10 you inbred retard

Safari is a Mercedes whereas Internet Explorer is paying a fat man to carry you around

>any os
>uses default browser
LMAO fucking brainlet

What about the Linux distros that have Firefox preinstalled?

>use a web browser to open a local video file
Mactoddlers, everyone.

My default browser is firefox, retard.

eat a dick you commie fuck?

Edge is just a modern reskin of IE, still useless as fuck. You are literally a tech illiterate boomer if you are using Edge, and you should kill yourself.
>wintoddlers

Yeah, but then you have to use Edge. And Windows. Fuck that

>I'd rate it up there with mpv.
It's literally a GUI for mpv.

Oh no Safari doesn't support a microniche format used by literally one whole website for trolls and pedophiles. Stupid Apple.

>webm format natively runs on the mac OS operating system

No it doesn't. You need third-party software codecs to play WebM files on macOS.

Apple doesn't support WebM because VP8 likely infringes on a bunch of patents that would make the company a target for lawsuits. Edge only supports VP9, meaning it doesn't work on Jow Forums.

Also no one but Jow Forums gives a shit about WebM.

EDGE.exe works perfectly fine on 4channel

why arent u using mpv?

motherfuckin CIA niggers

>Also no one but Jow Forums gives a shit about WebM
yeah, just Jow Forums and this little niche site called youtube

why do you lie?

Shut up holy bikeshedding fuck

But 4chins don't support it.

YouTube encodes in multiple formats, including the much more popular H.264. They do WebM only because it's Google's pet format.

MACTODDLERS BTFO

Google started using .webm before they were ready.
That's their thing. They hastily implement something new into their web browser (chrome) so stuff won't work (as well) on competing browsers. Never forget Web Components V0, which they implemented in YouTube after every other browser vendor voted against this implementation and even after the actual Web Components V1 spec was finished and implemented, just because other browsers would have to use slow polyfills.

Isn't webm a free standard?

VP9, which macOS and Edge support, is.
VP8, which is what Google forced to get their monopoly on the web, isn't.

>be me
>main macos
>open webm like a good boi

can you at least try a bit harder to think

I'm sorry that you're not only poor but stupid.

I have one for work
It's effectively an ssh box with a battery that lasts more than 4 hours

you realize you could just install PuTTY on any laptop running windows and have the same thing plus a working laptop, right?

Yeah, but I work at a research lab and this was what the last guy had. Uni funding blows

C O P E

Since youre using osx install iina its an mpv GUI its pretty comfy
