Ugly and boring. Office shit is fucking gross

Now pic related, THIS is the peak of GUI design

mac always had the worst gui, it's crazy

weird 90s dilbert on lsd vs wannabe almost hippie mom with lime culottes

I don't speak millenial sorry

I like it, but 98 was better.
2000 was peak of design.
XP was OK.
Vista and 7 were acceptable.
10... Fucking piece of pajeet poop, where you can see different vegetables not dissolved.

XFCE - OK.
KDE - acceptable.
LXDE - acceptable.
Gnome - worse than Windows 10, since it has cholera.

only good gui is no gui

That background just gave me cancer.

98 was fucked by Active Desktop shite.
2000 merely unfucked it back, I don't know why it's having so much praise.

All wrong

Nostalgic zoomer crap.

Let's make a bigger dock, i like wasted space

Fucking Solaris. I'm still using it a work because Alcatel's 2G OMC runs on it. Shit is slow as fuck.

>Let's make a bigger dock, i like wasted space
Remember, Solaris machines were 1024x768 or larger when PCs were still struggling to get up to 800x600.

Would you like a window manager with your borders?

This is even better..
Lunix master race ftw

it's still used in my company as well, for various GSM/2G related stuff as well

Fascinated by the contents of 'stopFirefox.sh'. What could warrant such a script? What is wrong with closing it like any other window?

Inb4 'killall firefox'

Why'd they get rid of the cool slide animation for the right-click menu or file menu?

Blyat/10

*millennial

This isn't a new thing by the way. Boomers had their own vaporwave equivalent back in, ironically, the 90s. The vibe of that decade was based in nostalgia for the 50s and 60s

It's honestly pretty comfy

>1024x768
What kind of cheap shit were you using? 1280x1024 minimum.

looks like the same thing but with awful icons and a really shitty 2005-tier gradient taskbar ruined even further by a bunch of useless flat system information widgets

Win 95's UI is literally just a Finder clone but with a bunch of quality of life improvements (better handling of grids and long file names, being able to change file extensions without an external utility, a nicer set of folder views, icon views generally being less messy, right-click actions).
The Platinum theme on Mac OS is nicer looking, but ultimately, it's not as nice to use.

most modern desktops have their UI conventions rooted in what oldschool Mac OS did (even if largely because of the above, where the Windows UI was remarkably similar to Mac OS's, and everyone copied that)

hated how CDE looked back in the day
it's grown on me a bunch in the last 10 years
but it's still rough as fuck in terms of usability

I've been re-implementing threed32 for .NET.

No more building to 32-bit targets or using AxInterop.

i threw up in my mouth.

wrong

BeOS *sips* now THAT was an OS. It could only go downhill from there.

the file explorer for win98 beat the shit out of 95
