What's a good offer to make?

150

Any way to get cheap thinkpads? I'm surrounded by Jews that keep trying to sell secondhand old thinkpads (X200) for >$100 and anything less than $100 has some defect like the screen doesn't work or the battery + WiFi card is dead. I tried ebay but there aren't any.

>own T430 for over a year
>get T440s in the mail this week
>mfw how much thinner and lighter it is

I feel like I'm going to break this thing. Do they still have at least a decent build quality? I'm scared lads

Attached: 1525531531436.png (819x716, 563K)

now imagine t480s is like half a kg lighter than t440s, build quality of nupads is still very solid mine after a year still looks brand new so unless you're fucking retarded and start throwing your laptop around for fun nothing will happen to it

Here's my naked Dell Precision M4800. The build quality on this unit is FANTASTIC. But the CPU was idling at 60C. So I'm repasting it. I actually, for the first time in my life, had to download the owner's manual to get to it. Holy shit it's a pain in the fucking ass

Need me a gf like my T60: fat and chinese

Attached: IMG_20181203_115627.jpg (3968x2976, 2.33M)

what's the max possible cpu/gpu/ram for this one?

Well my model is
>Intel i7-4810MQ (varying versions of this. 4900, etc. Mobile Xeon available too)
>Nvidia Quadro 2100m 2GB
>16GB ddr3 (using 2 slots, total 4 slots)
>Single 2.5" HDD, single mSATA slot
>15.6" 1080p panel (3200x1600 screen is an option)

Got it for $340.

considering getting a x230t i7 and putting a 500GB SSD in it as a dedicated wangblows 7 photo editing travel machine for these reasons
>expresscard slot which should be convertible to a compactflash slot that would be extremely helpful for me
>tabletmode with pen
>doubles as a drawing tablet
>IPS panel with 125 PPI (which is fine but I'd rather it be a 1600x900/1080p screen)
>port
>trackpoint
they go for about $300-400 which seems reasonable for me for that package but what I'm worried about is how's the build quality and what's the cons? is the screen itself any good and is the drawing tablet with the pen any good because I'll at least do some drawing with it, is it in any way comparable to a real drawing tablet?
should I just get the x220t instead? because right now the x230t seems a lot more appealing to me despite ditching the classic keyboard and it's way easier to find with the correct parts.
any other alternatives?

I want a gf like my X61t: small, flat and 10yo :^)

>Single 2.5" HDD
I'm 99% sure you can replace the CD drive for another 2.5" drive bay if you wanted.

Would not recommend X-series tablets ever at all.
They are as fat as the 14" laptops, and thus kind of cumbersome.
They don't come with as big of batteries as the non-tablet or T-series.
The screens suffer from burn-in/image retention.
1366x768 is VERY skinny in portrait mode.
The OEM pen sucks. You can get other pens that have an extra button and better pressure sensitivity, but they won't fit in the pen silo.
The rubber screen holders on either side of the keyboard are prone to breaking, can be ugly/annoying.
The corners of the palmrest are prone to breaking, because after the screen holders break then the screen swivels a little while the laptop is folded so the plastic corners are now the farthest sticking out thing and thus get hit by things.

Basically it sucks as a laptop and sucks as a tablet.

I tried to install a 900p screen on my t420 without changing to an hd+ cable. Suffice to say it didn't work and now there is no backlight with the 768p panel. How bad did i fuck up?

Attached: IMG_20180904_175711.jpg (433x310, 45K)

welp, there goes my dreams of finding an almost perfect laptop

16:9 tablets are shit
get something 3:2, 4:3 or at least 16:10

>DVD drive HDD
Yeah. But honestly I'm probably going to just keep the DVD drive. I'm fine with my 250GB 850 EVO for boot, and I have a 500GB 860 EVO mSATA SSD for storage. 99% of my storage for major stuff is on my server anyway.

Asking again from last night's thread

T420 keeps booting into black screen and keeps turning off. Even on charger and battery. It was working flawlessly hours ago. ThinkPad is partially visible but still all black on boot. How fix / What do??? Help me out /tpg/....

What's worst case scenario? What hit the fan and what probably needs to be repaired or replaced?

yeah that would be better but maybe I'm retarded because I can't find anything there that fits my criteria.
cmon throw a hint or something at me.

Have a librebooted C201p chromebook lying around? Fancy a libre mainline kernel and 10-15hrs battery life? This works awesome. I put mine away for a long time because I could only boot to USB and the system was very slow. This works great for those times when you have to be away from the cord.

does that actually help?

Dell Precision guy here. My CPU fan only kicks on loudly when my CPU hits like 82C. Is there anyway to change the fan curve?

Hard to tell since I replaced the thermal paste with MX-4 at the same time, and that definitely helped.

OK well here is the speccy from my new Dell Precision M4800, freshly dusted, repasted, all drivers, Windows 7 fully updated. Still kind of pissy about how the both the CPU and GPU fans don't spool up until the hardware is at like 80C+. Also going to take a little while for me to get used to an offset keyboard. I come from using laptops with no NUMpad forever, so this is all new. Shit even my desktop keyboard has no NUMpad.

If I buy a new Lenovo Thinkpad, am I going to have trouble with drivers after clean-installing Windows 10?

no, after connecting to the internet it should auto download all the drivers, in case it doesn't get lenovo vantage and it should take care of whatever windows itself missed

The one thing that Windows 10 does well is having bundled drivers so 99% of your stuff is pretty much working out of the box. Anything else should be picked up by Lenovo's Driver program/suite. That or you can see what's missing and just download it from the website.

Thankyou, Thinkpals.

So I got a 440p today, put an extra 4gb ram stick and a ssd in and it's pretty nice, I'm in particular impressed by the screen.
A bit worried about the cpu temps tho, is it normal for these devices to idle at around 50°C? What kind of temps are you getting?

Anyone have experience replacing their X220t screen? Mine is on its way out (vertical bar problem)

The only weak point is the display lid. I wish they'd put aluminium or some shit in there so it doesn't flex with the slightest force and rub against the keyboard

If it has a quad core it's ofc gonna be a housefire. Repasting helps

Got my T440p the other day, meh not impressed boys thanks for talking me into this shit...eBay here it comes...btw why so many of these pieces of shit for sale anyways hmmm

it depends if idle means fanless or not, fanless i'd consider it normal if fan is spinning then it's pretty hot idling temp

the t440p always idles with the fan turned off

not a quadcore
that's impressive. Did you do something with it or is it just a cool cpu?
this, fan stays off until the cpu reaches about 55°C, then speeds up and cools it down to 47-50°.

I found a dirt cheap x240. The seller told me the "screen is too dark, but it works normally on a external monitor". Is it just a screen problem or might be something else?

I want an 11.6” thinkpad. Is the Helix any good? Has a 1080p touchscreen and converts to a tablet which I don't care about. The other 11.6" options are all ancient or edu spec.

What's so special about anything IBM or Lenovo here? I'm just trying to understand why this general even exists.

read the OP

TPFanControl did the trick, now it looks more like this. Should be in the OP desu, here's the link:

sourceforge.net/projects/tp4xfancontrol/

>by that logic yours should be even cooler
idk, silicon lottery or something like that. Repasting might be a good idea anyway tho.

Attached: speccy.png (979x775, 179K)

I did. That still doesn't make them anymore special than other hardware.

you're just activating the fan manually with tpfancontrol though, it should idle fanless imo
i agree that it's a good program, using it to disable my X61t fan under 55c so it works like my T440p.

want to buy a decent multimedia + photoshop and shit thinkpad for my gf, is lenovo t440 with ips screen a good choice? looking for a sub-300 euro (used) machine and those fit in that range.

perhaps you're just retarded and cannot understand what you read

>you're just activating the fan manually with tpfancontrol though
it also has these nifty profiles, works like any BIOS or software fan controller, just less pretty

Attached: pic.png (775x535, 38K)

A lot of thinkpad pages in the "brazilian ebay" says that the battery will work only for 40 minutes/1 hour max.
Most models available are T430 and X230.
Is this right? That's the battery time? How much time can you get oit of a 9 cell battery?
And how this "internal battery, external battery" thing works?
Sorry for the dumb questions. I just need a notebook for studying, one I can take to classes. 1 hour battery is not enough.
Also do you guys suggest any specific model for this kind of user? I will just do some coding exercises and use autoCAD, I guess.

Attached: IMG_20190320_013311.jpg (567x346, 28K)

Not at all. I read everything on that post & I can't see what makes Lenovo or IBM hardware better or worse than any other laptop brand, in terms of price, availability or capability.

I also see you as more retarded for being unwilling to actually give a more valid reason to prefer Lenovo or IBM, than the reasons in OP that already apply to every other system.

Is this a good enough t440p spec?

old, used memepads can be upgraded and serviced with ease, unlike 99% other laptops.
I think you're looking at new memepads, those have almost nothing against most laptops at the same price, but here we discuss 2014 and backwards memepads, only recommending newer lappies when users are looking for something light or "normal looking".

1366x768

somewhat related question, this one popped up in my feed:

youtube.com/watch?v=1-ddjaE4hhQ

I don't like the backlit keyboard but nvidia seems like an added bonus

>Is this right?
yes
>That's the battery time?
no but these are 8+ year old devices, of course the battery will be dead as fuck
>How much time can you get oit of a 9 cell battery?
depends of the laptop
>And how this "internal battery, external battery" thing works?
an internal battery and a removable battery

Those batteries are fucked, a new 9 cell will last 12+ hours in a T430

>12+ hours in a T430
[x] doubt

Again, that doesn't really answer what I asked.

Used anything costs peanuts & are everywhere. You just have to look for them. There are plenty of used laptops from every brand that can be upgraded & serviced with ease if you're actually not a retard who must have a field manual for everything.

And no; I'm not looking for anything in particular. I just grab myself a laptop that I intimately know & understand how to work with, how to fix & Lenovo isn't the only good laptop for that (unless you need Lenovo to hold your hand by making field manuals available).

So please tell me what makes Lenovo laptops truly stand out from every other laptop... I can even get used Panasonic Toughbooks for pennies on the dollar with better specs than a T440 & still upgrade/modify it with ease.

then why don't you just do that my friend.
And fuck outta this thread. This is not for you anyway.

"No"

BTFO

How is it not for me? I'm just trying to understand your mindset, which reminds me of a macfag (if Lenovos were macs).

look out for this guy over here

Please don't reply anymore to it.

>Why don't you just buy another business laptop and get the fuck out of here?

Quoting OP:

It seems you didn't read the thread properly either.

itt: the Lenovo equivalent of macfags getting their panties in a knot over the honest truth from a noob

looks like a military compound desu

That dont seem right. Can I get 6 to 8 hours in the X230/250 with a 9 cell?

I don't know anymore.
If I'll have to buy a SSD, a new battery, new RAM, I might as well buy a new notebook with actual insurance.
I have to admit the appeal is more a aesthetical thing + the keyboard for me.

Pls someone convince a kinda poor third world monkey that the thinkpad meme is a good deal

Attached: FB_IMG_1551389159312.jpg (720x960, 92K)

Why are you missing the R series?

Comfy

Attached: IMG_20190322_130437.jpg (4000x2250, 2.4M)

For me it's the keyboard. No other laptop I've tried feels as good as a memepad one. Responsive, tough, will absolutely outlive me. Spill proof too, although I'm not retarded enough for needing it, it's nice to know the feature is there.
Also they're tough in general, not as tough as a toughbook but also don't look like a terrorist detonator bc of it. Toughbooks make you look silly outside a construction site or places like it.
Also they're good business. You can buy a bunch for cheap, fix them up, sell them to other autists with less braincells/time (with a recharge for your trouble) and they'll be delighted to pay. I've done it several times, for example getting x240 laptops for next to nothing, slapping a shitty SSD and putting 8GB of chink RAM and making a profit by reselling. Other used laptops are a nightmare to sell, but the thinkpad name is enough to speed things up, even if they're shit laptops like the x240.
Finally, parts. Aliexpress is heaven for used memepad parts, you can literally build an entire thinkpad just by buying each part from China: mobo, fan, case, keyboard, display, touchpad, battery, ports, speakers, you name it. There's tons of options at competitive prices. You will find a hard time doing that with other brands.
Anyway that's why I'm into thinkpads, prolly didn't answer your question but will help you understand the circlejerk around them on /gee/, newfriend.

Attached: tfwyourlaptopwilloutliveyou.png (680x840, 259K)

What I need is the trackpoint. I can't use trackpads anymore.
HP and DELL's are just not the same, and I'm not aware of any other OEM including them today.

I carry a mech with me desu

why are nu-thinkpads fucken grey

Now THIS is the kind of answer I'm looking for. Finally, a non-retarded, non-macfag-like fanboi answer.

I've always been a sucker for trackpoints myself & I've never seen or tried the ones on Dell or HP machines (I didn't even know HP had trackpoints, but then again, HP isn't exactly quality material). Mind you, Dell's starting to rival the T series with build quality, as well as Asus ROG (but that's as retardedly overpriced as the T70).

About Aliexpress; I think you can do pretty much the same with Panasonic laptops too, or just about any laptop for that matter. Panasonic laptops are manufactured between China, Taiwan & Japan, plus China being what it is (the Mongoloid Soviet Republic,) they're bound to have corporate KGB spies that will clone whatever they can get their hands on & make counterfeit replacement parts that still work 100%.

Fuck knows, they eventually went back to black, but there are also silver options now.

If they keep fucking the X series I'm probably going to bail for HP's equivalent line eventually, shit trackpoint or not.

HP's trackpoint is only the tip of the iceberg...

But I've never experienced the X series. I on;y have the T, R & P series. As for Dell, I have a T5500 workstation I use as a server.

for me X series has been dead since x230 but on the other hand T slim series has been better than ever and for me renders X series completely obsolete in the light and portable department
