In general, the repo doesn't exist for your convenience. It is designed to be as useful as possible to the active developers.
When you are grabbing source code instead of carefully packaged binaries, the expectation is that you are a programmer and will understand the need to install dependencies and prepare build systems.
For example, if it's a library, you are going to need to integrate it into your own project and build system anyway. If it's an application, and you don't plan to modify it, then why are you building it from source at all?
