I'm mostly concerned with the fact that my ISP knows that I browse Jow Forums, and despite Jow Forums being about anonymity, that isn't possible.

Pretty much every decent VPN has no logs and encrypts your data so even over http the VPS can’t see what you’re doing.

How do you verify that a VPN doesn't actually keep logs (despite what they tell their customers)? I know I'm going full tinfoil hat with that question but it is something I think about. Commercial VPN have their place if you aren't worried about three letter government agencies. Their great if you want to keep your IP address private. But I wouldn't trust them if I was, for example, a journalist or activist in a shitty country.
