There is no instruction manual when you're writing your own program.

There kinda is, it's just that there's more of it

There can be requirements for code, but that's kind of like an "instruction manual" that shows you pictures of an idea of the finished product and gives you a massive tub of legos, most of which you won't even use. Then, when you're half way through, the instructions change, and you have throw half your work away, because it's no longer relevant.

The instructions show you what the customer thinks they want, but not how to achieve it.

Love legos, hated programming was never good at it nor knew any idea of a project I would have liked to do. Everything's already been done and by better people.

Nice, I had that exact set as a kid. Good shit.

But essentially it's the same skill only more involved

Anyone can learn to program, even a total potato. The hard part of programming is , I've wrote plenty of my own things, but I often find myself agonizing over the correct way to do something and eventually the correct answer turns out to be there is no correct way as every way has trade-offs.

I don't want to do either of those things.

Noob

thx for the nostalgia
have this in return

Based and orangechainsawpilled

Nah, programming is like being given a drawing of the above, and having to summon each piece out of the ether from your memory in order to build it. You have to know what each piece is and how it interacts with other pieces before you can even use one, or repeatedly look up what pieces do what you want them to do until it's all committed to memory. Some of the piece interactions are obvious, but some less so. Would you think to use snow skis to build a decorative arch?

Stop using Waterfall if you don't stick with it

IT'S NOT ABOUT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS IT'S ABOUT BEING ABLE TO REASON AND BUILD UPON LAYERS OF ABSTRACTION AND BEING ABLE TO READ THE MANUAL YOU FUCKWITS

I just try to learn C# with a book for retards and i still fail at the beginning when i comes to simple math.
Feels bad man.

Is VB.NET better for mathlets like myself?

Math doesn't change between programming languages user. What the fuck are you on about

What math do you need when you start coding? Only some addition maybe.

Well, i guess i am really just retarded.
Thank you anyway.

Learning advanced math doesn't hurt though. But it's hardly necessary for entry level programming stuff. Depending on your field you'll need wackier and wackier math eventually though.

Studying math early on is probably a good investment.

nostalgia'd yet?

Maybe your book shows some complex algorithms or something? There can be advanced math, but it's not necessary for the very basics.

Something like int a = 5; int b = a * 2; and so on.

I think I had something like this except with a purple velociratpor and an explorer

>all the early 90s boomers in this thread
late 90s zoomers had legos too!

writing something new, innovative, or unique usually means there isn't an instruction manual. That's kind of the point. You can certainly learn a language if you can follow instructions, though.

this is the set I had

omg thanks for remembering me i had a very happy childhood, a lot of good memories. depression cured for some hours. bless on you

Holy fuck I remember I had the spider and the dino
AAAAHHHHHHH

Agile was invented as a way for micromanagers to justify standing over your monitor and fuck with the font choice for the umpteenth time. Prove me wrong

I had no clue there is a Lego Ship-in-a-bottle; nor a clue how bad I want one.

Fuck yeah. I had the Thunderbirds island playset. The pool retracted to shoot off the rocket and everything. Damn that was some fun stuff.

got this as a gift by my dads rich coworker when i was younger. this made me smile. thanks user.

For me it's Technic.

Aw man that hit me right in the feels. This set was the one that made you be able to build a decent Millenium Falcon before Lego Star Wars stuff came out! :D

Had the same set

Fuck new lego technic, it's trash.

>Make shit with lego

I like the accessory choices

fuck I had that lego set

god dammit OP
