What did you use? Linux usually does that before encrypting if you selected FDE but you can cancel it, even truecrypt/veracrypt does it.
That's just in theory though, maybe your hentai already got overwritten by encrypted data by now.

Have fun recovering literally nothing from my drives. If they hadn't contained actually sensitive data I overwrite them with the same movie file to full capacity 32 times. If they contained sensitive data I chemically dissolve them. All you're gonna get from that is random ghibberish or a bad chemical burn.

DBAN does multiple wipes of random data since just 0 bytes can leave the electronic state inferred. The more passes of random data the harder it is to figure out the original state.
