Now What?

Just got this... wat do?

Need some ideas.

The thing you were planning to do with it when you bought it.

Anally insert it

Use it as a pi-hole until you think of something to do with it.

use it for movies. that's about it

install gentoo

I like to tinker with stuff, but it seems that these things are used in a lot of places where they really don't need to be or where there's really a better way... like console emulators.

I'm hoping Jow Forums has some interesting shit going on with their pi's.

No programming socks?

Personal NAS
All it really is good for

do some driver-coding practice with its GPIO's

Stick it in your ass.

I made a RetroPi with mine and got a 8BitDo controller.

And this is a good example of what I'm talking about.

I've been playing games via emulators since the 90's, back when MAME barely had a hundred games, NESticle was new, and zSNES was a gosend for my 5x86-133 enhanced 486 'cause SNES9x was too heavy handed an emulator.

From what I've read, I'd be better off building a small-ish C2Q 6600 to be able to run PSX and Dreamcast games or any late-90's and up arcade games. The Pi is only good as long as you keep it confined to 8 and 16 bit consoles and 80's/early 90's arcade games.

You put it in a drawer and you start posting about it on every single thread, forever
>Emulation
Hey guys, I have a rasp
>Anything related to home automation
You know, I have a rasp
>Any software
You know you can do it with a rasp? I have one
>Classic consoles
You can do it with a rasp, guys
This way you become an insufferable raspfag
Enjoy your purchase

Better just grab an STM32 or some other µC board for that

I often wonder if they genuinely use their pi's or just have them to talk about them...

Attached: scust.jpg (525x350, 18K)

And worst of all, they talk about it like
1 it is something obscure
2 they are literal hackers for pasting some files on a SD, and using the command line
It's honestly a cultural phenomenon on being retarded

If you buy shit without an indea of what to do with it ahead of time then you're a retard.

Did you intend to learning embedded shit with these? Then do.
An Arduino would have been cheaper though.

Go ahead, write a TCP program in C and compile it into that pathetic excuse for a computer.

why did you buy it if you don't even know what to do with it?

retarded faggot is retarded

The uses for a Raspberry Pi should just be in the sticky at this point.

Pirate Box at uni. Basically useless for everything else.

In order of usefulness
1.) Pihole
2.) Nextcloud Server
3.) Underpowered NAS
4.) Kodi box
5.) MPD box (control with your phone)
6.) Retro gaming box

I currently have two Raspberry Pis. One is a Pihole/MPD box and the other is a backup Pihole/Retro gaming box

Connect a random hard drive and use it for file sharing

Ie nas

Run it with media services

Its handy if you want to share photos between you PC and computer

Host your own porn site on it

based risitas poster

What is the correct type of power supply for a raspberry pi? I bought one from a local store and they had these brandless nondescript power supplies that I bought along with it. Just wondering if it’s even the correct type.

>Better just grab an STM32 or some other µC board for that
well OP already has the device

we have these threads every day... yet there is no SBC general anymore
fuck this crap.

what can you do with those

Gaming station with all kinds of emulators

i made a poison pi that was cool i definitely didn't use it on the display computers at best buy though

elaborate

Could I stream PC desktop to raspberry pi? Google only found me streaming specific games/steam through moonlight.

Steamlink is in retropie now no need for moonlight. It works great.

you're aware that it's just a small computer, right? you basically just bought a computer, but smaller.

retard

Aw nice thx bruv

fully aware of it you mongoloid.

It's not the kind of shit you install a desktop OS on and work from, which I"m sure you're aware of, right?

Use it for robotics and then put it in a drawer after you buy an Arduino.

OP here: which would you prefer: Arduino or fPGA board like a Xilinx Spartan 3 based starter kit.

I almost bought a Spartan 3e board years ago for a couple hundred dollars but kept putting it off and eventually just forgot about it.

neither, you won't end up using them anyways lel

Pi hole and a DNS server.

what's the point of a self-made DNS server ?

DNS cache for faster internet usage.

nigger, you are supposed to think before you buy shit

put it in your desk drawer

What I really don't know what you need to teach every kid how guns work by the actual celeb Because in 10 years they will be getting some better quality pics of bitches and pot.
Cool dude. you mean for me to get oxygen.

>it seems that these things are used in a lot of places where they really don't need to be or where there's really a better way
So why the fuck did you buy it?

slower than a fucking Wii

>wat do?
Go away.

I got a spare SD card for this. Am having a bit of trouble since I've only been using the pi headless up until this point. I tried two methods so far and one has worked better than the other. I did a normal Raspbian flash onto the card ssh into it and install the required software and that seemed to work well but didn't explore past that point. The premade images just seemed like shit. All this referring to retropie, how are you guys achieving this?

Dust collection device

I see this a lot, but who cares about a Wii and why would it matter in this regard?

PirateBox, basically, just an intranet for your local area so your neighbors and you can trade files.

>switch on output side
>mains exposed and cover missing

Set up a minimal *nix system with WindowMaker or MWM. Use Devuan or OpenBSD as the base system. Then make a mail server, a website, and other shit with it on your LAN. You can also tinker with more obscure systems like RiscOS or 9front. It can be used to emulate all sorts of old m68k based systems like Macs and Amigas. MacOS 6 and 7 would run well on it. I believe QNX has an ARM port but you'll need to sign up for their developer/hobbyist program.

A Raspberry Pi would've blown away most home computers in the 80s and 90s. It is a full PC with plenty of I/O. Also keep in mind that it's a slow yet low power board that was designed to be small and inexpensive, and that's where it really shines.

Attached: 1548380315893.jpg (661x640, 20K)

A wii can play all nintendo games (and even sega) from all consoles older than the wii. Those are a lot of games and also can be a media player (and play wii games).

The pi has a hard time even running GC, fucking forget wii.

>having to hack into proprietary shitware to do what you want vs. a system that just works
Anything N64/PS1 generation and later sucks anyway.

How much does a Wii cost? GC was hard to emulate for just about anything last time I looked into it, though there's nothing on the GC worth emulating or Wii for that matter. Also, Wii is big and bulky when compared to the Rpi. Hence why stuff like PiStation is nice.

I know people like to hide these in restaurants but there's gotta be an easier solution than building one yourself from a unique combination of parts that can be traced back to you by the FBI even if your fingerprints weren't all over it. I personally won't touch the damn things.

The biggest point of Rpi is that they are continually upgrading it and keeping the cost locked in. It makes me wonder what the Rpi 4 then 5 will be like.

>exit node
I was once accused of using one of these. I've no fucking clue what it even is.

GC runs pretty much naively. You can pop a GC disk into a wii with a GC controller and it will play fine. Never had a problem with it

>physical media

So, it isn't really emulating then.

it can also play games from a usb if you're jailbroken

Use it as a torrentbox: Install a distro without GUI, install transmission-demon, setup the Web-Interface, install transmission-rss from github, configure it to your liking and setup SMB. Then you can basically forget about it and connect the share to your computer. Sadly, it sucks as a "NAS" (see picrelated via "gigabit" ethernet) because everything basically runs on one USB 2 interface. If you want a NAS, get an odroid.

I replaced Dell 2960 2U rack server with Orange pi zero, only have 100mbit network at home so USB2.0 for drives is not problem.

Drives max out at 34mb/s with UASP.

pi hole niqqa

Someone posted aomething they madebthat tracks people who drive pasts his house but not.sure what it was

Use it to flash a libre bios onto your thinkpad.

turn it into one of those pi guns and kill yourself

fill it up with nigger gay porn

the pi is a meme overprice piece of shit junk

This, did the same thing with mine.

Same, mine is sitting on my table too

>rpi
>NAS

Literally the worst use case ever for a rpi
>shared nic/usb bus
>overhead

I hope you enjoy copying files at ~9 MB/s

Literally this.

Have one as a Retro Gaming box also running Pi-hole.

For a Nas have a real HomeServer

Pi hole is only usefull for mobile faggots and tablets, on PC you still need ublock because page formating gets fucked
