there are currently not any. In the future quantum computers might help us analyze quantum systems in chemistry and materials science. There might be very limited applications for specific subareas near term with noisy analog quantum simulators.

calculating the number of genders.

You must first define "quantum".

>it takes a billion dollar quantum computer to do a boolean compare
The absolute state of modern programming languages

to sound really smart programming machine learning blockchain artificial intellect algorithms on a quantum computer

why does it look like that

>gender
>boolean
Nigger do you know what version of hell we are in currently?
You are acting as if it's acceptable to be sane.

wrong
the immediate desire driving the quantum computing frenzy is the increased efficiency with which they solve Shor's algorithm, which would allow users to rapidly break most types of modern encryption. The first company/country to crack the inherent difficulties of quantum computing will basically have a key to the world.

t. person within an institution that is one of the predominant quantum computing hubs in the world. no I won't say which, because it's not important to the discussion.

>t. person within an institution that is one of the predominant quantum computing hubs in the world. no I won't say which, because it's not important to the discussion.
That's bullshit but I believe it.

Why do YOU look like that huh? Get hit with the ugly stick too many times? Uggo.

why's that so bullshit to believe? i'm not actively working on quantum computing, but i'm friends with the people that do, and their lab is four stories below mine (deep in the sub-foundation of the building to lessen vibrations).

This without a doubt. The end result of quantum computing is letting the bioluminescent government workers of african heritage have the means to break encryption. The British used the first computers to break encryption in WW2 and quantum computing will follow suit.

Breaking AES256/RSA/PGP/HTTPS and decrypting all the the Tor traffic the NSA has logged.

Attached: 1553588937271.jpg (255x272, 40K)

This is close, but not true. The fact of the matter is that the world is aware of the dangers of using current public key cryptosystems as quantum computers begin to loom on the horizon, and there are a number of processes occuring now to determine post quantum cryptographic standards - some companies, like Google, are already rolling them out.
You won't have a key to the world, but you'll have a key to the past (presuming you've stored encrypted communications) and a key to those who haven't made the switch.

being a good boogeyman for literally anything

Serious question: Why would you work towards developing quantum computers when you know that it's going to seriously fuck over a lot of people? The technology will only be available to wealthy governments, and they aren't going to hesitate to wield it like a cudgel.

Does sona get raped in this comic

this. and to scare NSA middle management who know nothing about computers into allocating staff to investigate the possibility.

Quantum computers will not break AES256, at least not for a long time. Even using Grover's algorithm to search the key space, that's 128 bits of work. Even if that is somehow one day feasible, you're ignoring the many difficulties with qubit error correction.
Your symmetric key cryptography is fine, and your asymetric key crytography will be fine for a little while too.

I can't remember if it's Sona or Lulu but someone gets raped

>future quantum computers might

sweet creeping jesus, i am so tired of seeing that word in tech articles. "might". i want to bitchslap them and snarl "come back when your proposed technology fucking does something."

well I might do just that user.

next up, "uh, quantum computers require large amounts of ice-cream. chocolate, mainly. we need that delivered ASAP."

eventually, "The quantum computer needs hookers and blow to resolve the states of the active qbits."

what world do you live in

You're full of shit I've been to d wave and they develop quantum computers without needing to be buried underground. Stop fucking larping.

Gender is the word to describe someone’s social response to their biological sex dimorphism. The reason there are “so many genders” is because the world is a big place and in our culture and others there are these trans humanist bio modding freaks who keep finding new and absurd reactions to their biological sex that people smarter than you make up words for.

pretty bait but bait nonetheless

All of those are some variant of capitalism or judaism

no you were the one who was actually the bait i’m just a gullible gutter punk

we're too deep, I'm not even the original guy

I'm not that guy, but D Wave develops "quantum computers," not quantum computers.

>nukes
>machine guns
>napalm
>mustard gas
>torture
All explicitly designed for warfare/doing harm. The people that made that shit were either totally amoral or they felt that it had to be done to achieve some goal.

>meth
Meth was accidentally discovered by some Japanese chemists and they considered it useless, but they documented their findings anyway.

>Facebook
Pure evil.

in theory? as physics is quantum, you could simulate chemistry, including cells. Ability to have virtual human cells would accelerate drug development astronomically.
Not sure how many qubits that would require, probably millions, which may never happen.

how is this relevant even if it was coherent

also please don't tell me you believe quantum computing has somehow escaped the omnipresent epidemic that is capitalism while being developed in burgerland uni's

my point is that most of the time when someone is smart enough to develop some technology that is disastrously harmful to the human species, they are typically also smart enough to be aware of that risk, and are either explicitly developing the tech to give someone the tool to harm someone, uncaring of the risks, or convicted in the belief that the potential benefits outweigh the potential detriments

i.e. it's hardly stopped anyone before

i think most people involved in novel tech with practical applications that have potential wide-reaching effects like this either exist in a state of willful ignorance about how it will be used, lick boots for a living, exist in constant conflict once they realize the dangers, or rationalize that it will eventually be more valuable to humanity even if it fucks us for a century or two in the meantime

watch quantum porn of course

Code breaking and encryption can all be easily cracked with them which is why there's an arms race to build the best and be the first.

>decrypting all the the Tor traffic the NSA has logged.
I don't see how that'd be useful. They can't go after anyone with decade old traffic logs.

>exist in a state of willful ignorance about how it will be used, lick boots for a living
I'm leaning towards that. I have often wondered about the guys at Boston Dynamics. They cannot possibly believe that the government was funding their research just for giggles.

Depends on the statute of limitations for the crime. You also have to consider that it could turn previously unknown offenders into suspects, and in a place like China it would probably just mean that those suspects would get black bagged as soon as they were identified regardless of how old their offenses were.

>which may never happen
same thing was said about the internet and the computers of today

i personally know people who work at honeywell and I don't know how the fuck they do it, but hey, i bank at chase, use gmail, and buy from amazon so

Qubits when implemented correctly break probability.
If applied to the general public it could be the biggest paradigm shift since the discovery of gravity.

Why, testing of course.

Attached: GLaDOS.jpg (579x720, 53K)

my point is that supporting capitalism indirectly supports the worst of businesses (including businesses that operate as governmental institutions), despite the many layers of abstraction, and the only way out is to entirely avoid participating in the system, but that's a really shit way to try and change anything about it

Simulation of quantum systems.

Daily reminder that a classically-simulated quantum computer is still billions of times faster than the real thing, even for the magical problems it was originally supposed to solve.
>pic related
Anyone who thinks this quantum stuff is a big deal can be immediately dismissed as a retard or a charlatan.
Quantum effects have been taken so far down the jewish rabbit hole we may never get back to discussing other possible implications and meanings behind wave-particle duality.

Solving quantum systems is kinda difficult, and is currently relies heavily on approximation methods which in turn may be solved using Monte-carlo methods, because the deterministic even in somewhat trivial cases can take upward of the age of the universe to solve on even super computers.

Quantum computers enable us to both make our currently solvable systems more precise, and solve new systems entirely. You can also design new types of algorithms by "abusing" superposition.

If you think Tang is 'classically-simulating quantum computers' you don't understand Tang's papers you just read blog posts about them

Unironically this. There is still no proof that QCs can be actually more efficient for any kind of problem than traditional ones.

The amount of bullshit that you read about them is one of the most scandalous things going on in academia right now. I highly recommend anons to follow Scott Aaronson's blog to get a grasp of this massive scam that quantum computing is: scottaaronson.com/blog/
