Your browser loads tabs from previous sessions when you open them. Pic related is hundreds of tabs. You may as well complain about bookmarks because they suck up a bunch of ram when you open a lot of them.

I have around 400 tabs open right now.
I just checked and I have nearly 3500 bookmarks sorted into around 100 folders and subfolders. I've been accumulating bookmarks since around 2010 and a good portion are probably dead links by now. Every now and then I close some tabs after bookmarking the interesting ones but at the end of the day it still means I have a bunch of shit in my "to-read" and "to-watch" pile that I never get to.

I use a Tab Session manager to put my restless mind at ease that I'm going to lose something "Important" I haven't yet got around to reading at end of day or beginning of next day.
I don't think I've ever actually looked at all my old tabs, but it's nice to know they're there.

I try to keep no more than 10 open these days, but it used to be a real problem. Like 40-50 tabs.

I've read somewhere that closing open apps on your phone is actually counter productive because your phone os will close them automatically if it needs more resources, and all you are doing by manual closing is forcing your phone to open the apps from scratch every time, thus wasting battery and time in constant loading.

I have about 600 tabs of porn, it used to be more before I started downloading and organizing it. Before I used to have a little more than 100 open of just shit I have to watch or read, but now it's more like 50 or 75 since I use some extensions to manage tabs.

what i've found is that it's really inconsistent. it only takes some minor fuckup for all those tabs to be gone

I'm the OP of this thread, the OP image is actually how many tabs I have open, the oldest ones go back about 4 months, every few months I go through and clear them out, been doing it for years. I've never lost my tab information before.

When I reload tabs from Sankaku it gives me an error. So I just put my computer to sleep now.

Usually about 12 to 20 per window. And about 2 to 3 windows... My RAM usage is usually 10/16GB with my browser open.

Usually around 500 or so with 100-200 in each tab group. When it gets to around 1500-2000, I go through all of them and close excess ones. Navigating between tabs is done with the :buffer command (keybound to b).

ah. could be i have two versions of firefox installed simultaneously and they seem to want to share some settings. i only ever start nightly but there's a normal ff as well, registered as the default browser for some reason. i think they aren't supposed to be used this way.

i usually lose my tabs every four months or so; just last week i had a bluescreen and then the entire browser reset to how it was half a year ago, all tabs and userscripts gone, and some weird pink color scheme i had at the time.

as to having 700 tabs, i really miss tree style tabs.

Usually, I would have 10-20 tabs open--several for Jow Forums, several for anime torrents I'm waiting to come out (as opposed or in addition to RSS auto-downloads), I'll usually have a few tabs for packages I'm tracking, two email tabs (one personal, one work), maybe one or two tabs for something I'm thinking about buying, a youtube tab, an ebay tab, a forum or two related to my interests, a Google search left open to remind me to take another look at it...or whatever else.

Firefox is terrible. What's happened to me several times is that it can crash, then when it reopens, you get two windows, then immediately crash again and the "session" it remembered was actually the new window and not your original one. Or it auto-updated to Firefox Quantum and none of your session data carried over. Fuck Mozilla. Bunch of tranny-sucking SJWs.
