it's ubuntu level easy, you get asked a keyboard, then you are in a menu to select your wifi and what you want to install.
I recommend to choose the lxde version since it is basically like XP.
But you may be better off with debian if you are not that familiar with linux, as you need to add some repositories from the internet into yum.
cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/
just download the iso for your architecture, try the lxde live and burn in an usb to try it without installing.
Multimedia codecs are installed by just install ffmpeg. It pretty much gives you all codecs you will ever need, but to be sure also install gstreamer1*, the asterisk means it installs everything starting with gstreamer1*. Basically the same in every distro but in debian you don't need to add repositories for most things
