Can we have thread with alternatives to todays bloatware. Alternative implementations/clients/services. Im tired of those Java/Electron wanna-be-modern-app-must-load-your-i7-to-100-percent crap.
mpv + youtube-dl will handle Youtube videos, playlists, and tons of other sites in a more elegant manner.

Stop downloading youtube videos Just use invidio.us You can stream youtube without javascript

>downloading Streaming is technically downloading, but why should one stop? You should use alternatives like invidious to browse for videos, but watch them with mpv.

>Etcher >balena.io/etcher/ This may be the first time in my life I was genuinely offended by something on the Internet.
However, I'm never permanently downloading videos when using mpv, just streaming them.
Further more, most of the content I consume is 1080p+ and 60fps, and invidio.us only has 720p30 max streaming for all the videos I've tested so far.
So it's a less elegant solution for viewing videos in my use case.

Of course you can do it without JS, what makes you think otherwise? You just drag the link into mpv, or open the link in mpv through the terminal or some browser addon. You can also make a script that opens your clipboard in mpv and bind it to a key if you're on Linux. >I dont want to store files locally tho You "download" it either way. It's stored in your ram and or temp files. There's no way around it. The OS obviously clears it eventually.

>Can u stream youtube without javascript with mpv? With youtube-dl installed, it's as simple as:
How do I set up mpv to open up videos from the browser automatically?
Because copying the link for a command is not ideal

Underrated post.

Openwith and many other addons can do it. You can just drag the link into the mpv window, too. Make sure you've installed youtube-dl. If you're on Windows, it has a c++ redist dependancy and needs to be in the same folder as mpv.exe.
