No I'm not canadian, and from what I can tell, it's just as bad here as it is in the US
But in euroland (UK doeesn't count), christmas isn't so much of a big deal: people still celebrate it, but it's more close-knit, with just you, your parents, and maybe your grandparents. Gift promotion is also less of a thing, since everyone buys everything online, and I know most people are not bothered by receiving few, if any, gifts.
