No. Just no. There is no "quantum" anything, this isn't poorly understood near magic effects of some mythical theoretical particle. This is simply electrons being so small they can move through any material at the path of least resistance, because nothing can exert 100% perfect electrical control over them. It is current leakage. It is nothing but current leakage. It is current leakage in short channel devices, and it happens at literally every feature size, it is not exclusive to small FinFET devices like upcoming 5nm EUV FinFETs. Even planar devices have extremely high degrees of leakage through their channels, directly under the gates, electrons still leak out. Yet despite this the transistors still function.

Quantum tunneling is a meme regurgitated by people who know nothing about the field of FETs.

quantum mechanics really pushes the cult of science's buttons because "SCIENCE" is all about experimentally verifiable phenomena and refuses to admit that things that are not immediately controllable phenomena are not "real"

the problem is that the universe literally breaks down on a small scale, once you get to quantum scale you can literally do the same experiment three times and get different results. it is more or less impossible to control for these phenomena. it is not the same logic that the macro-scale universe uses and there is some grand universal irony to the idea that the core rules of the universe break the rules so badly that most people refuse to believe thats how it works

It sounds like you’re only talking about quantum tunneling. There’s more to quantum theory that gives quantum computers their edge.

Experiments always get different results, even in classical settings, assuming error. But those sequences of results have patterns. The patterns found in quantum phenomena are different from the patterns found in classical physics. Who cares? They’re still patterns and they carry information about the system. Learning a probability distribution for system state is still science, even if it feels weird.

Most people in the scientific community believe in the validity of many quantum experiments. AFAIK, most in the quantum mechanics field believe the results of recent successful Bell test experiments as well. What more convincing would you need? Quantum supremacy?

All I know is you feed a traveling salesman problem to the quantum computer and it instantly solves it using quantums. More quantums is better I think.

It computes quantumly, using quantum phenomena to solve some problems in shorter amount of steps. Quantum algorithms scale much better for certain problems, such as integer factorization. The details for their 50 qubit processor are not public, but if it’s like the processors being used for their Q Experience, it’s likely using transmission line shunted plasma oscillation qubits.
