I have a g3 battery charger from aliexpress and 2 extra batteries always in my bag
I use it on the tv because it still has an IR transceiver
You can't have that luxury with any 'modern' smartphone

An LG G6 or a used G5 with some spare batteries and the charger.
You can just restore everything with LG Backup and then upgrade to Oreo.
Avoid nu-motorola like the plague and only go for the xiomeme if you hate notifications and/or like installing custom roms.
The camera and DAC of the LG G6 is some of the best out there (haven't tried a G7 or G8 thou, but heard the bootlops are back)

My G5 has IR blaster, runs Oreo gets around 5:30hs SoT and didn't even root it so far. Got it used almost 2 years ago, got a new battery and it's still going strong. No point of fixing the G3 when he can get a better phone for the same price as the parts (last time I checked some where selling it for $75 in gr8 condition with all the accesories)
