well, maybe I'm just a bad user, but I used it for a while and I disliked that when I had one Terminal open, I had to open another one with 'New Window' and switching through programs wouldn't consider multiple windows open

that's because you didn't read how the keyboard shortcuts are or how does it work. Literally comes with a tutorial.
I pretty often do use alt +exc to switch windows in the same workspace. If you don't remember where you left things you easily just pick them from the overview.
Plus it helps that it never breaks.
I have a shortcut for the terminal but pretty much is just typing ter in the overview and pressing enter, or control shift n for a new terminal in an already opened terminal
