It's designed by a giant company with ties to the US government. What do you think?

What about ARM?

Definitely botnet. Especially newer ones.
PowerPC probably had it but they might have shut down the servers on their end, who knows. Nobody uses PowerPC anymore.

Any source on all this?

Read this: tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2018/01/more-about-spectre-and-powerpc-or-why.html

The G3 processors are immune to Spectre. The G4 is, in theory, vulnerable, but so slow that any javascript attack would be impossible. Only the G5 could be exploited.

Wrong board.

>it's the fucking schizo retard spamming the PowerPC threads again

there are talos powerpc systems too you know

ibooks are fucking pain in the ass to disassemble.

Neck yourself

why would you take one apart? that's not how you fix botnet in CPUs, you cant fix CPU

My cat took a piss on my Powerbook G4 12 inch craptop, RIP little guy.

no. some people just think they can feel special by using outdated hard- and software to escape some botnet that never did anyone harm so far. they expect to get monitored by glowing niggers 24/7 when using windows and intel and all they actually get are ads on amazon.

gdi

Pretty sure I read the same article and it stated the G5 is slower than shit too, while also highlighting what memes Spectre and Meltdown are in general when it comes to real-world exploitation.

No, but much better than any x86_64 cpu
Botnet
RIP the cat?

Hardware isn't really botnet. It's just insecure. Jow Forums is fucking retarded. If there were backdoors any place in a system, I'd first look at the compilers. It's possible to write a compiler in such a way that it produces binaries that function in a predictable way, meaning all software built with that compiler is compromised. It's not really possible to spot even in the source code of the compiler itself. There's really not a way to fully mitigate an attack like this.

You know how you keep documents secure? You lock them in an ordinary filing cabinet, buy a handgun, and shoot anyone who tries to get into it.

This. I've never used ad blocking or VPNs for privacy or security. I use them for convenience so I'm not bombarded by useless pajeet shit, and so that my ISP can't see me stealing TV shows. Trying to use YouTube on a Firestick sucks ass if you don't have network wide ad blocking set up.

>It's designed by a giant company
No! It was designed by 3.

To replace the HDD.

>I use them for convenience so I'm not bombarded by useless pajeet shit, and so that my ISP can't see me stealing TV shows.
this is basically why anyone is using a vpn as a private person. this and bypassing geoblocking. "the man" is not interested in your furry porn.

I'd rip my cat if I caught him pissing on my machines too
Probably

It's good if you want to post on social media, watch movies, play Candy Crush and consume advertisements, but not a lot else.

So what about POWER6? It lacks out-of-order execution.

No, but SPARC processors up to the UltraSPARC T1 are.

Too bad SPARC fucking sucks on a desktop.

RIP my Powerbook G4, I love my cat too much but he's going through discipline.

This guy () is not the shill, you fucking retard

Reminder that you shit in the street.

Why? They are dual. Even Quad G5's are really pushing it in terms of being remotely useful anymore.

I'd be pretty content using my dual 2GHz G5 as a desktop

I bought one when they came out, they have a critical design flaw in the cooling system so make sure to get in there and clean off the CPU heat sinks because they will be choked with dust unless you got the liquid cooled versions which have a known design flaw and will eventually leak.

>muh javascript and 3d gaymen
works fine if you're over 18

My air cooled model was surprisingly clean until I fucked up the thermal settings and had the fans running full speed 24/7. As for the liquid cooled models, the ones with Delphi pumps had the leak issue, the Panasonic models are fine

Some are different then others. Most of NxP's chips are fully open.

The only thing G5's struggle with is the modern web. The only reason they struggle with it is because modern software, including the web, is bloated as all fuck. You can get an office suite or CAD program from the G5 period and it will run as fast or faster than anything today. But you can't get a 2003 version of your favorite web pages.

The web runs fine for me on my dual core G5.

This, people always act like computers degrade in performance as they age. The PowerMac G5 was good for many things when it came out and it's just as good for those things today.

I have an old Power Mac G4 that's still very snappy and has some old version of Reason (music software) on it. A friend of mine is borrowing it and has no issues using it for that purpose.

I still have a fully functional 1.5Ghz G4 Mac Mini. I hope someday I can sell it to some applefag for thousands of dollars. Last I checked, it's worth no more than $300-$400

>Literally the least upgradable G4 Mac, including a fucking 1GiB RAM ceiling
>Worth shit
You keep deluding yourself, kid.

Just so happens I did upgrade it to 1GB of ram. Was a huge pain in the ass getting into it, I needed to use putty knives to undo the top from the base.

The 1.5Ghz model is special, it's the fastest powerpc mac mini and has 64mb of vram. So I am still optimistic about its value increasing someday.

>The 1.5Ghz model is special, it's the fastest powerpc mac mini and has 64mb of vram.
So? It's still the mobile version of the CPU without L3 cache, which in practice makes it slower than a single 1.25GHz MDD. And a Radeon 9250 with 64MiB of VRAM is nothing to brag about. Hell, I have one in a Beige G3 from 1998.

well, it is compact. So there's no harm just holding onto it. I have it packed back up in its original box in my closet and I'd be happy to sell it to somebody right now for $1000 if such a person wanted it for their apple collection or an old tech youtuber really wanted it or some shit.

isn't this the iBook with the keyboard that smells like armpits?

No, that's the G3

>and I'd be happy to sell it to somebody right now for $1000
And I'd be happy to sell my LC for a million dollars.
Do you really think advertising yourself like that is gonna work here of all places?
The armpit keyboards were the clear ones, G3 and G4. There were two models of the G4 with an opaque keyboard: The 12" 1.33GHz (The one in OP's pic) and the 14" 1.42GHz.

yes, sir. Buy my Mac Mini. I'll use that money to build a new pc, every penny of it, when the new Ryzen chips come out.

I haven't found anyone on the internet complaining about the G4. The smell comes from the glue they used for a label at the bottom of the keyboard, and I guess they learned from it and never used it again.

All 3D games that PPC OS X or Linux supports would run fine on even a single CPU G5.
Not a argument.

I know this counts as anecdotal evidence, but I have a G4 with a clear keyboard and it smelled like armpits for a couple of years.
>The smell comes from the glue they used for a label at the bottom of the keyboard
The G4s has a stiffening plate stuck with the same glue, because people complained about how spongy the G3 keyboards felt. Imagine that, Apple improving a keyboard because users complained about it. And on the consumer line of computers, no less.

Trust me bro

Lol and here I am amazed at the G4 700 I found in the curbside being worth way more than $20.

Have fun software decoding modern video codecs while the computer runs like a furnace.

Of course it is, if you stick to programs, web and codecs from that time.
Even browsers like TFF are pushing the G5 with just browsing text based web pages, since the browsers themselves already are too much to handle. It's even worse with Firefox on PPC Linux.

But let's face it, even streaming 720p YouTube in a 3rd party external player is really pushing it, yet alone in the browser. Even with a external browser, a tablet can display the same video, at the same resolution without dropping any frames and quite literally using 100x less power.

Maybe the fact that the glue is located between two metal plates makes it much more difficult to melt (and stink), and only some of them start to stink when exposed to a lot of heat.

this

You can get quad G5's for 70 yuros, their problem isn't cost but transport, the G4 isn't worth shit.

Wait, I just pulled out the iBook and it turns out the clear G4 keyboards actually have the sticker too, or at least mine does. They must've added the plate on the opaque models. That would explain the smell.
Do I spot a furfag?

>macshit
Spotted the furfag.

>You have already reported this post, or someone with your IP has already reported it.

Goodbye, fucking flooder

Not really a design flaw but mine are very clean, you can see through the fins.

The wifi card is really slow. Hook it up to ethernet and it blazes. As others said, it's the outdated browsers that's the issue. All 3 got the full academic software suite with all the pro apps and photoshop and office so I am confident I will sell them for decent profit. Got all 3 for $120.

Attached: 20190424_204600.jpg (4032x1960, 2.41M)

Isn't this the model that makes so much noise you can barely have a conversation in the room?

>I am confident I will sell them for decent profit. Got all 3 for $120.
See: Good luck with that, there are advertisements for quads right now below 100 bucks that are months old because nobody wants them.

Three for 120 USD is borderline ripped off, duals don't usually go for more than 50 bucks.

The dual core, dual CPU was the top spec in late 2005, the last one. Mine I believe are early 2005 and single core dual CPU so pretty loud still.

It came with a lot more than just 3 towers

Good shit user, they are really nice machines despite their flaws.
