Media Player Thread

Been using PotPlayer for a while because I like the UI. The other day, I downloaded my first 4k video. It's encoded in h.265.
Unfortunately, the color looks terrible. I then proceeded to install about 10 other media players, and none of them could get the color just right. Each one also had some other quirks. For example:
- "Movies & TV" Win10 App can't play the video from a burned blu-ray disk without extreme stuttering and lag, because "what is buffering lol"
- VLC can't perform color correction on the video without stuttering. This is on a Core i7 4790k with an RTX 2060.
The only thing that was able to perfectly play it was my LG TV after I put the file on a USB stick. It looked perfect on the TV.
So, what do? I don't want to have to perform color correction on every single video and constantly have to keep track of when it's on or off.

Ever thought of just fixing it yourself with filters?

unless it's an HDR file, potplayer should be able to play it without issues

Try another player. MPV seems to be Jow Forumsent's choice nowadays.

Install mpv

Set vlc not to convert colors.

isnt mpv thread still a thing?

mvp player sucks. cant change the sound. only turn it on and off. and also cant make a playlist

Wrong. The osc is there for a reason, try clicking the symbols next time. Protip: the sound symbol circles through every audio source available.
Set audio-file-auto=fuzzy to additionally add every external audio file that looks even remotely like it belongs to the video.
>playlist
If you want a gui then you can just put some script for playlists and use that.
However, the autoload script should be default.
Look at the github wiki to find a list for scripts. They are useful.

You sure, you didn't download HDR version? Also try using madvr codec.

Tried MPV and it looks perfect. Thanks, anons.

Here's a quick little comparison image, there's a loss in detail and colour with vlc, whilst mpc and mpv have are mostly identical and are unaltered out of the box.
vlc has lots of post processing shit going on that I personally don't understand or know to remove them.

mpv is too difficult for an idiot like myself to adjust things with
mpc just werks

my YouTube videos aren't being marked as watched by YouTube-dl, why is this?
my mpv.conf looks like this
cookies
ytdl-raw-options=cookies=cookies.txt
my folder looks like this
cookies.txt
mpv.conf
mpv.exe
youtube-dl.exe

>pot player
>vlc
What is this, reddit's first day on Jow Forums?

>cant change the sound
>only turn it on and off
>also cant make a playlist

Post mediainfo of your files. I'm 99% sure you are trying to playback hdr without knowing what the fuck you are doing.

I figured it out, I needed only needed the following line
ytdl-raw-options=cookies=cookies.txt,mark-watched=
the mpv option for cookies wasn't necessary, only the ytdl-raw-options. I was mainly missing the "mark-watched" parameter.

You need to use a media player that has good tone mapping
So you either use mpv or madvr, there are no other choices worth mentioning.

media player classic with haruhi works well, but its obsolete because of mpv

Anyone can share their input.conf for mpv?

How do you play HDR files in these media players?

GOM... Pretty interface and supports all the codecs...

You don't. They don't support HDR to SDR tonemapping yet. AFAIK only mpv and madvr have support for it, and they don't do it out of the box either.

sure, why not pastebin.com/n1LNG5xV
some of them make no sense without userscripts that i wrote / got from wiki; let me know if something got your attention

Thank you. Mine wasn't working for some reason but now everything is fine.

Maybe you should take a look at the defaults github.com/mpv-player/mpv/blob/master/etc/input.conf

>MPVlets will NEVER be able to play videos at x2 speed

LMAO. Brainlets.

] add speed 0.5
[ add speed -0.5

Why do you purposely make yourself look like an idiot?

Why do these comparisons never show the greatest of all players: media player classic home cinema?

>thinking ghibli films are anime and not art
