They should get together and do the exact opposite. One of the biggest things I miss about how gaming used to be is that there were no social features and you had no persistent identity, just an arbitrarily-chosen and trivially-changeable nickname that wasn't tied to your real life at all.

don't be stupid; it's an important feature for multiplayer games.

devs should be all over that shit.

ledditshits need to leave

if you know what this icon is then you also need to leave because you're a redditor.

fuck that

No.

Fuck off you autist. go back to or Normal humans socialize.

don't be stupid, "social" features are what ruined the internet.

pathetic normie freaks that can't do your own thing or make your own friends in game without approval form your discord channels

a) why do you expect game developers will use this API / service instead of whatever they're currently using
b.) who will maintain/moderate/update this service, and how will it be paid for
c.) how will you convince market competitors that exposing them to users on other storefronts / platforms is beneficial to them
d.) how will the platform handle interaction with other social/friend systems that are currently closed from external sources, given that adoption of this system will take years in a best-case scenario

social features are a mistake

>Social network for gamers
What a fucking disaster idea

It's called discord retard

game devs are notorious for NIH syndrome, nobody would adopt it

Thats essentially what gaming market platforms like Steam and Discord try to do. It's also one of the appeals that consoles have.

Don't be daft and stupid. Steam is not a standard, it's a proprietary piece of shit.

> muh teenage reactionism

you are on a forum stupid

Because they hate Steam having them locked, or whoever else equivalent, with a gigantic fee for little reason.
It can be decentralized. Also, in any case they benefit in profits from a good service, so donating to it would be a profit to them.

Also don't be stupid. Social networking is extremely useful on multiplayer games.

Don't be stupid. That's what Steam and Blizzard do for many years.

It's how many people play multiplayer games.

Don't be stupid. It would be tied to a game, not a chat.

Also avoiding proprietary lock ins is the entire point. Do you know how much it costs to be on Steam or other similar bullshit? 40% off your profits at least. Compare that to an open standard that may be either free or very cheap since nobody is making a profit out of it other than using it.

No, because, as an open source project they would be contributors too.

It wouldn't be just something to adopt ready, but to adopt to their needs.

You missed the point, the entire point is to avoid those proprietary platforms locking you in. They also take off at least 40% of your profits.

That's not even the only disadvantage. Some games are incapable to open up outside those platforms because of their restrictions and terms.

That was really awesome. Going on Quake with any random stupid nickname, having some fun and then disappearing.

Looking the other responses I think we're a dying breed.

This, fuck zoomers.

Creating an open cross platform networking standard and API for games would be amazing, something that Epic, Steam, Origin, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo can adopt.

I think the worst part is name changing/custom player models/weapon models/maps/ect is now usually a paid component to the game.

you too as well

> doesn't know the difference between a forum and an imageboard
> basically wants realID
you unironically are what is wrong with the internet.

Don't even think about modding! That's forbidden. If any of your game files hashes don't match you get banned.

If it weren't for modding we wouldn't have Counter-Strike, DotA (and every other MOBA), and many other games.

imagine installing the latest single player vidya you want to play and it doesn't support your resolution natively so you edit a config file and get banned immediately for modding and now cannot play the game because it requires an active connection to confirm you're not banned

I don't think we're far from this as a reality

I think one thing now is there are so many free engines or cheap engines, and the opportunity is there to go at it and make your own game and make some money, rather than do something for free. And half the time doing a mod was a step into the industry. Now they just hire college kids and burn them out by 25, the survivors end up with senior positions.

that's true but at least i admit it

the sheer amount of zoomers getting angry at this post really shows how fucked the modern internet is.
fuck off back to /v/ you motherfuckers, you don't belong here.
