Are new tablets worth getting, or would a beginner be fine with a used tablet like pic related?

Are new tablets worth getting, or would a beginner be fine with a used tablet like pic related?

Are there features that new tablets have that a beginner would need?

Depending on how old the tablet is, its drivers might not be supported any more on newer operating systems. Also, clean them.

>Also, clean them.
I never thought about the years of dead skin and other bodily matter that built up on these things till now

OP here, I mean drawing tablets for artists, in case it wasn't clear.

Thanks, how dirty do tablets get? Can't be worse than a mouse, right?

the one you posted is pretty terrible compared to the new ones.
I'd recommend the new intuos or xp-pen Star 06.
Or used intuos 3/4

I can understand why you're asking this on Jow Forums but don't you think there's a better board to ask the same question on?
You might as well ask about guitar amps or fridges here

While I do agree that his thread's a bit off-topic it's a welcome change from the plague of Intel vs. AMD, AMD vs. Nvidia, etc. 10x a day threads

i own an old wacom bamboo fun which i never really use. it's fine for doodling. i always felt like the tablet was too small for anything else, but i'm no artist.
if you can afford it, get a tablet where you can draw directly on the screen, like the cintiq.

Or if you want to be a mobile artfag, the ipad + apple pencil are unironically real good tools for artists. Even though they're way too fucking expensive and all.

What is the sauce on pic, google just says "depressed anime girl", no name or series

At minimum get a 1080p screen
Samsung galaxy s3 or s4 is nice
Mine came with a pen for free

that looks tiny
wacom used to sell this one medium sized one that was only like 120 bucks

Bump

How are tablets not TECHNOLOGY you brainlet?

I started with one like that back then. It's good enough imo - you can get used to working with a tablet rather than pen & paper, which feels quite different due to low friction, and drawing has such a high rate of people ditching it again after a couple weeks or months that it's hardly worth it to buy something more expensive until you are sure you really want to stick with it.

also you could check out monoprice. those were fairly decent, at least a couple years back, but quite cheap.
their drivers did have problems with multi monitor setups though, no idea if they fixed that by now.

Depending on your exact definition of technology, you could condense most of Jow Forums into Jow Forums if you really wanted to go that route.
>how is a car not tech
>How is porn not tech
>how is a hammer not tech
>how is a Tonka truck not tech
>etc.

Had Bamboo One for like 10 years, maybe more, never needed another but then I'm not a drawfag, just use it to post-process my photos (nothing high-end, mostly just some local dodge/burn and scrubbing the dust). Just werks.

The rubbery grip coat on the stylus of my Bamboo disintegrated into sticky fucking mess after many years. I tried scrubbing it clean but there doesn't seem to be a clear line between that and the base plastic. I don't want to try solvents so I don't fuck it up so i just wrapped it in some food film. Looks ugly as shit but still better than the alternative.
Other than that yeah, nothing more than the usual grime you'd find on a mouse.

So you want another Intel vs amd thread don't you little zoomer.

it's 100% is technology, the same way transportation, weapons, musical instruments are technology. But which board do you think has more experience with (insert tech here)?
>/i/ - A board full of people drawing in their mother's basement. Probably uses a tablet.
>Jow Forums - A board full of people programming in haskell in their mother's basement. Probably never touched a tablet.
>Asks on Jow Forums

Certainly not

Cringe

The most cringe-worthy posts are the ones that reply to others with "Cringe"

How are Chinese tablets?

bamboo is reliable, but the kind of tablet that is not suitable to learn to draw with. Learn to draw on paper, then switch to tablets.
There will be a huge disconnect since you won't be looking at what you draw directly, which for beginners and people that want to learn to draw, is absolutely impossible to reconcile with improving your artistic ability, but has much less of an effect on drawing techniques.
If you're committed to actually drawing as a profession, get a fucking cintiq or any monitor tablet

/i/ doesn't seem to have any gear related threads, not even paper/paint/pens.

you're looking for you absolute retards

That's because you haven't made one.

Nope, pretty much any tablet, no matter how old, will work on GNU.

Pencil and paper is enough for a beginner.

bamboos are fucking garbage
you need an intuos medium size at least to properly do anything.
and before someone says shit, NO SHIT A GOOD ARTIST CAN DO ANYTHING ON THE MOST GARBAGE SHIT AVAILABLE, that does NOT mean its ideal

medium is just large enough you can start using your shoulder to draw from, Ideally you would want a large but that's more money.
huion does a damn good intuos quality tablet, both in the medium and large size, the only thing smalls are good for are photoshop editing, as painting a blemish away is SO much more intuitive with a pen then with a mouse, and because you aren't drawing you don't run into issues.

the mods/jannies over there ban you for posting tech questions and tell you to go to Jow Forums

anything uc logic based is good, huion is the best known brand that uses uclogic, but there are quite a few others.

/ic/ tablet discussion isn't allowed on the board, it's literally in the sticky.
