sony vegas/premier..
Im realy outdated about this so dont consider my answer legit..

Aren't those full of fancy features for pro video editing? I want something more lightweight for basic editing.

Kdenlive.

Youtube unironically

ffmpeg has a nice interface. you're just a retard.
however, if you really need that gui check out davinci resolve.
don't they reencode your stuff to inferior quality?

Yes but Vegas is pretty lightweight.

setup a vm install xp bring windows movie maker from the deads..

search "adobe premiere appnee"

Vegas is very lightweight in terms of install size and processes.
Premiere is not, all Adobe software is bloated to hell.

Olive

Ignore all the proprietary bullshit you want Kdenlive.

Vegas is for dummies.
Kdenlive sounds like a nice alternative but I haven't tested it yet.

>proprietary is bad
Oh boy
>Vegas is for dummies
How so?
It's a NLE just like any other.
Maybe you don't even know its capabilities and are talking out of your ass.

kdenlive, openshot, shotcut or flowblade if you want a fancy interface
ffmpeg if you want to do this quickly
avidemux if you are a masochist
blender if you are insane

iMovie. its free too

also resolve > premier

Thoughts on Premier?

Since I'm feeling kind: avoid all open source shit, because it's all garbage, except if you only want to do the most basic stuff like trimming a video.
In that case there are many small utilities, like MP4Tools, VirtualDub, AviDemux...
I heard Kdenlive might not be total shit, but that's Linux only.

If you want anything like that in your picture, forget about open source and just pirate Vegas.
I guess Davinci Resolve could work too, but it looks a bit more gimmicky and bloated to me.

If you can stomach having Adobe bloatware on your PC it's not bad.

WebMConverter (previously WebM for Retards) can do trimming and cropping, just not merging.

based.
Simply, there is no decent open source software for picture/vector/video editing.

>I heard Kdenlive might not be total shit, but that's Linux only.

WRONG!

files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-19.04.0-2_portable.exe

>Maybe you don't even know its capabilities and are talking out of your ass.
Why so defensive? I just meant it's easy to use, I didn't insult your mother.

>Thoughts on Premier?

Premier is the only video editor that doesen't want me to gouge my eyes out with a corn holder. It's actually usable, but don't buy into the CC scam. It's the Photoshop of video, and if you know Photoshop it's very easy to get into.

kdenlive

Shotcut or Olive

Kind of tangential, but does anyone have thoughts on Blackmagic Fusion? I tried the free version and it seemed really fully featured as both an editor and VFX pipeline, but I just needed it for a quick project that I retardedly stumbled through so I never got around to actually learning it.

it's gut
especially if you're learning fresh
coming from AE it's a pain in the ass because all the tools work differently and the workflow is just completely different, but overall it can do the same and some without the monthly adobe bill, even the free version can do a lot

I'm a professional and use Vegas every day. Fast entry and workflow. I was never able to reach it with Premiere or Davinci. Only thing that sucks imo in Vegas is that its output and I/O codec support is shit, which is why I always export Uncompressed and reencode later (ffmpeg or x264).

blender

I use avidemux for cropping and cutting and ffmpeg batch scripts for everything else (concatenating, file conversion, etc).

based

I like this. Instantly knew how to splice clips

Openshot

Fusion is really nice for an easy, free compositor but it is absolutely not viable at all for VFX work above maybe TV/Commercial level use. Film VFX is so heavily reliant on a swath of plugins for Nuke that Fusion does not have.

Shotcut sounds exactly like what you want.

never recommend openshot again. ever.

>shotcut
that's better
