Well Microsoft is probably the biggest open source contributers and they've been releasing great open source software the last few years; stuff I use now on a daily basis (typescript, vs code). Their new terminal is open source. Obviously they won't open source their core OS so I don't think you'll see the WSL integration, unless it's parts of it.

I have to pick in between installing and babysitting Linux on bare metal, or literally open a new Linux tab in Windows. Linux on desktop is, and has been dying. I don't see what the big deal is here. I use Linux on my laptop because it is lightweight and customizable and I use Windows on my desktop because it runs most software including games (although next time I build a desktop I'm considering going full linux and running any windows software I want in a VM).

Anybody who is serious about programming has the knowledge to set up Linux VMs on Windows, MS making that process automated and selling it like some new feature seems more like desperation than domination.

Dual booting windows 10 on a 128gb ssd is asking for headache. Windows 10 is taking up to 40gb on a fresh install+updates of the 10 pro, install some basic shit+drivers+office and you can eat half that 128gb no problem. A month ago i installed w10 on a spare ssd to test shit and use some gay ass program that didnt run on wine and needed the gpu. Fucking resh install ate half the fucking 120gb sd.

I'd still say that putting a large, high rpm hdd in your rig is worth it. At least for me, the sheer amount of anime, movies, and games that I hoard would cost me a lot to put on ssds, so getting a NAS and some HDDs is a good idea.
