In fairness this is kinda obvious as shit
It's like say, you rent (hint RENT, not buy to own but R E N T) a parking space from a dickhead that owns ten of them in a 100 parking space lot
You then find out the dickhead that rented you the one space of the ten he owns no longer has permission to rent those ten as his contract is up, so you still park there and could be told "hey, you're doing shit we don't want you to with our property"

You're only licensed to use the current version. When a new version comes out your license expires, you MUST stop using the software and upgrade immediately or you are in breech of contract.

The license is only valid so long as you remain a subscriber. You'd pay the same whether there was an upgrade or not, so you are basically getting the upgrade for free.
What you aren't allowed to do is subscribe, not update, cancel your subscription, then continue using the obsolete software. That is illegal and immoral. And frankly it's bad for everyone because you are exposing your computer to viruses and malware and putting the entire internet ecosystem at risk.
